Will be our top scorer on 6 goals next season.

If he hadn't missed all those sitters under Smith we might have stayed up. Seems very wasteful on attacking set pieces.

Don’t disagree but still my point stands.

I’d hope given both are good enough on the ball that we can find a solution where we can be an attacking threat, whether on the counter or against low blocks (with the likes of Fatawu and Mavididi etc) whilst having a defence that can balance actually defending and playing out from the back.

Possibly a lot to ask for!

compared to nobody getting on the end of anything for the last 2 seasons I’d 100% prefer chances that might go in, to every set piece being easily cleared :dunno:

Maresca figured he would be up against low-blocks in every game and his defenders didn't seem to prioritise defending. I assume thats why he liked Faes over more conventional defenders like Souttar.

I do think people just see the size of Souttar and make a lazy assumption that he is just a lump who can’t play. It’s not the case, he’s decent on the ball. Not as good as others as I said.

But, if you have Souttar and Nelson as the partnership, I’d be confident that the team could still build from the back while having more defensive solidity.

I think Maresca’s choice to neglect defending nearly cost us and we were pretty more defensively all things considered and were bailed out by the likes of Fatawu, KDH, Mavididi and Vardy at the other end.

I was thinking they could be an attacking thread themselves

I mean we all thought that about Vestergaard last time we went down, and he ended up being our best Centre Back that season.

As long as we don't do anything daft like yknow, offer him a long contract after promotion while being fully aware of his limitations... we could do worse. It's not like LCFC have previous for that sort of braindead thinking... right?

I’d say Vestergaard’s situation was a little different - albeit I’m expecting some sort of mutual termination to happen with him if he can find a club to take him over the summer.

For me, I don’t see Soutter ever being the number 1 or 2 centre half for us going forward for any significant period of time - if he was, I think fans would be quickly identifying him as an area we could improve on.

In which case, it’s time to let him get on and make a career for himself elsewhere - plus let’s face it, our whole defence could do with a fresh and new feel to it come the start of the season.

He's scored 1 goal in 85 championship games lol

Would definitely sell him if Sheff Utd or someone else came in for him

We would realistically need about £10m for him though which I cannot see happening

Who on earth thought he was a good idea in Jan 23? Plenty better available. 17 million quid. Good gracious.

We've spent hideous amounts of money on championship standard players. Skipp, Souttar, Coady, Daka etc. Not sure if Daka is even championship level to be fair.

The plan B all the Luddites have been crying out for when they demand for the team to “put it in the mixer!!!!!!”

Should be starting next year, was a key cog in Sheffield uniteds defense that they never replaced when he got hurt last year. Him and Nelson, Okoli in the mix as well and then find someone cheap and young to be our 4th choice

He’ll be needing to play to make the Australia World Cup squad, won’t make it sitting on the bench. For his sake I hope he gets the clarity early.

They said he was first player back in summer we had Enzo just to impress him.

People talk about bridging the gap in effort and commitment when you don't have the quality in the Premier League. Id have taken him for that reason alone over what we had.

Preaching to the converted mate! Was calling for him to be signed way before he was.

I don’t think he’s underrated on here, I think he hasn’t been given a shot to be properly rated. He’s got a great skill set, prior to his injury quite pacey despite his size, and he’s just a massive unit. I can understand why he may be moved on, but it would be a mistake not to give him a fair run ahead of the dross that have proven they can’t hack it at the level above.

Souttar Nelson Okoli is a strong back three, or 3 CBs for 2 slots, for this level, and potentially a very serviceable at the level above.

Three of these players, including Daka, have Championship winners' medals (and in Coady's case, two).

But Souttar is still several months away from full fitness after a bad injury. So selling him won't be an option for us.

While he is injured, do we get an  insurance payout to cover his wages?

Yes but they are still championship standard players on PL wages, and signed for PL transfer fees (excluding Coady).

Young centre back, 23, had a decent World Cup, over 100 pro games at the step below. Made sense to me.

There's been some stinking signings but this added up to me. Then just totally under-utilised or not utilised in the right way. He'd have been ideal in a newly promoted sign who don't have ambitions about high lines etc.

I agree. Thing is, it’s not like Souttar has actually been poor when given the chance. He hasn’t been given opportunities and yet the whole time he hasn’t, we have been a defensive shit show, even during the Championship season we were.

But people use the fact he hasn’t been played by a few of the worse managers in our recent history, whilst those occupying the positions have been beyond shit, as a reason to write him off!
