StanSP Posted 1 February 2023 Posted 1 February 2023 Time to look ahead . Let's hope we're still in the PL... Amartey, Mendy, Tielemans, Evans, Soyuncu all out of contract. Vestergaard should be sold. Bertrand should be sold. Maddison likely to be sold. Likely to be a lot of upheaval and will be a big moment for the club. One it has to get right. Maddison, Tielemans and Evans are big characters to replace, let alone the midfielders' quality. I'd like to think we're scouting and trying to secure targets now as opposed to leaving it til August. I'm seeing that we'll need a GK, 2 CBs 2 CMs, RW - regardless of Tete staying on, and maybe LW for competition for Barnes. Might be our most expensive summer to come... 1
JimJams Posted 1 February 2023 Posted 1 February 2023 Lafont, another CB, Youri replacement, Madders replacement, Joao Pedro. 1

JimJams Posted 1 February 2023 Posted 1 February 2023 (edited) Pedro can play all over the attacking line. And we've got no depth. Edited 1 February 2023 by JimJams 1

CosbehFox Posted 1 February 2023 Posted 1 February 2023 Should have a keeper ready for July 1 - anything else is a joke 2
splinterdream Posted 1 February 2023 Posted 1 February 2023 Do we have any players in the U23s that are likely to feature in the first 11? Sammy Braybrooke was breaking through I thought, Will Alves, Brunt, Nelson? I think we should move Ndidi on if hes still under contract, and not sure whats going on with Soumare at present. Big changes ahead, bit scary as we're normally about buying raw talent and letting them flourish.
Tuna Posted 1 February 2023 Posted 1 February 2023 Palace had a rebuild a few seasons ago, it can be done and it can be done right. We should be looking into the championship and at players out of contract. 2

Popular Post Ric Flair Posted 1 February 2023 Popular Post Posted 1 February 2023 Don't want to be overly negative but I just don't see where we get the funds from for 7+ new players, nor do I think we are capable of recruiting 7 new players that would be our main targets in the summer window either. We also need to manage Iheanacho, Ndidi and Praet properly as well as Maddison, otherwise there's another £150m + of talent walking for free in 2024. The frustrations of how we run our academy makes all of this even more irksome and when you add in the chronic injury problems we are suffering there then it makes me apoplectic. The single biggest reason for Seagrave is to be a conveyor belt of talent coming through to compliment the 1st team and give us huge flexibility in how we change up our squad. It ought to save us millions and yet we're in complete disarray. 12

-sodapop Posted 1 February 2023 Posted 1 February 2023 I think we're looking at something in the realm of 8 players. Here are my early thoughts just off the top of my head - predicated on all our winter signings being both good and in the case of Tete, permanent. Nothing too pie in the sky here - there are obviously better players hidden away, I'm no scout. Goalkeeper - Lafont is my first pick, but if Everton go down I think we should go in for Pickford. CB - Chris Smalling as an elder statesman. CB - Ronnie Edwards as young blood. CDM - Hjulmand? This is the position I'm not too sure about, a lot depends on what happens with the rest of the midfield. CM - Maxime Lopez is so good for Sassuolo. Watched a bit of them when we were linked to Berardi endlessly, and he really caught my eye. Equally, Frattesi could be of interest here. CAM - Ludovic Blas ST - Jonas Wind Attacking depth - David Costa (or Alex Scott with the hope that we can keep Maddison a bit longer to blood him in. That said, if we can't get him to extend at least a year, we should sell obviously)

Focus on players who will have just 12 months left on their contracts, there is plenty of them out there that you will no doubt be able to get for £15m or less Try for someone on a free like Bamba, Skhiri, Djiku, or Bayindir When it comes to squad/depth players we can look at 1 or 2 players on loan with an option to buy We got Kristiansen, Souttar, and Tete on loan for ~£30m It can be done, and thankfully the January window has renewed my hope in how we operate and the kind of players we are mainly going to be targetting 4

Finn Claw II Posted 1 February 2023 Posted 1 February 2023 (edited) Armarty and Mendy will likely be offered some form of new contracts. what I think we will realistically have; GKs Ward, Iverson FBs Justin, Ricardo, Castagne, Kristiansen, Thomas CBs Feas, Soultar, Armarty CM KDH, Ndiddi, Preat Mendy, Soumane Att - Barnes, Daka, Tete, Nacho, Vardy We have alves, Braybooke who must be close to first team. I think we will sign about 4 good players plus Tete, Harrison being one of them if we stay up. GK, CM on top of that are a must. Edited 1 February 2023 by Finn Claw II 2
