We’d need someone who can take a corner first. Unbelievable how many don’t beat the first man.

...or even, put a big man at the near post to occupy a big defender who would have to go with him and take up a position!!!

It is absolutely astounding when you see our players taking up the same positions at corners and it turns out we are not a threat.

Just watching the Blackburn players, who have a few routines where the take up unusual positions forcing the opposition to also be in a position that they would not choose to be.

I recall an interview with Rodgers regarding set pieces and he responding by saying that they haven't the time to practice these in training. Now I would suspect because we were in Europe and playing 3 times in 8 days, was the reason for his response, but it seems he does not attribute any benefits from such attention as we are no longer in Europe but continue to ignore a fundamental part of our game.

The away end could be key today. As a poster said above it’ll be a relatively damp atmosphere there, and Southampton are the only side in the country to have had a more disappointing week than us losing at Leeds and against Grimsby.

We’ll have a proper defence in today from the start which will help. Maddison is back (we think and hope). Iheanacho will start. There should, and likely will be a reaction to the performance on Tuesday. Hit our stride like we have done in the Villa and Spurs games and United first half and we should win. However we have a spectacular talent of being inconceivably shit a lot of the time this season, that’s what makes me nervous.

When was the last time we scored directly from a corner? Genuinely can’t remember.

The average corner count in the Premier League is about 10, so each team gets around 5 per game. Actual goals scored from corners is around once every 75-100 approx. Scoring direct from a corner is even rarer. The danger zone from where most goals are scored is (getting the first touch) ahead or around the near post/six yard zone, hence why "not beating the first man" is such a common occurrence due to the importance of defending that zone securely.

Also corner takers are trying to beat the first man by about an inch as they're aiming for that near post touch, so there's almost no margin for error. It's not (not just) that players are rubbish at taking corners.

At our best, we are we’ve proved that with big wins over most of the teams in the bottom half this season - our problems are still really coming from the first 7 games - if we had maybe picked up 7 points them rather than the 1, we wouldn’t be looking over our shoulder now.

Agreed, but we didn't, and are looking over our shoulders, we are not consistent, he tinkered with what worked, after Spurs and Villa, if we approached the second half against  United, the match against Arsenal, and Blackburn in the same manner, as Spurs / Villa and lost, I'd be happy, that at least we gave it everything, frankly, I shudder to think what will happen at the Saints, if we lose this, it has to be the lowest point of the season, stop the tepid crap football and get this won.

how many teams go to st Mary’s this season with the view that most of our fanbase have today ???

How many go to st Mary’s with our manager and equally pathetic keeper?

Rodgers' selections, tactical ineptitude and inability to spot the large grey mammal with the long trunk in the room instills negativity into even the most optimistic person!

Three things I've read about this match fill me with despondency ( not including Ward).

1.Ward - Prowse is nearing Beckhams free kick record.

2. Saints will play a high press.

3. Che Adams is back.

These together with our novelty goalkeeper suggest we will concede at least 3.

JWP needs 1 more to equal the best for a single season and who better to face than the worst keeper in (at least) Europe!

But hey we might score 4!

What a miserable scenario. Unfortunately all of this is true.

We lose today.

SFC 4 - 0 LCFC

post match comments.

We played with real intensity and really went at them in the last 10 mins so the players should be proud of that.

The sickening thing is, it’s true. You could write a book with the word count of war and peace on the amount of times we’ve succumbed to these strange stats prior to playing a team out of form.

It’s almost nailed on Southampton will be 3-0 up before half time. And Rodgers will just clap his way to 60 minutes before making a shit sub.

And then say they were too passive (as he does after most matches).

Heart thinks we can win but head tells another Bournemouth. Start like snails as usual, get control and a decent first period overall. Then go missing again in which they capitalise, followed by a late fruitless effort to level.

Truth be known we all think that we are more than good enough to beat the Saints, and based on their form we probably should, but BR has me so confused about how we will play, it's just to hard to call, if we lose it wont be a shock, if we pull of a big win It'll be judged as a masterclass, but for me, it will be another masterclass of papering over the cracks, hence the lack of excitement for this match.

0-1 City. We are staying up.

I was totally behind Pearson in the great escape season. I never thought we would go down.

Sadly now if I could bring myself to do it I'd put money on us going down.

Rodgers tactics are on a par with a drunk Russian commander.

Infact the latter would probably have more of a clue what he was doing.
