My hope and optimism for this game was completely drained after watching that shitshow on Tuesday. However seeing them go out in even worse circumstances and Maddison returning has restored a great deal of it.

Iversen's error was his naivety that he ought to offer the out ball from Amartey back to him in case he couldn't get the pass off elsewhere. Had he return to the centre of the goal that was going to be potentially cut off from Blackburn if I remember rightly.

 

Either way it was a horrible piece of football from all involved. He had a good game apart from that.

Indeed, I feel like with more game time and experience with the defence. 1) he likely doesn't come as far our wide. 2) he's probably a little more switched on to his current position and managed to shift further left. He obviously felt he didn't have time to take his eye off the ball and have a quick scan around, which would have allowed him to correct himself, as the player was running at goal and could have shot at any point.

 

I think it's incredibly unfair to write somebody off for making an error of judgement due to being put in a ridiculously awkward position when they're severely lacking any form of match sharpness.

 

Especially when he made 3 or 4 saves that I've not seen Ward come close to making.

 

Seems a lot of people have decided he isn't good enough already.

Start with a lot of intensity, high press to quiet a very anxious St Mary’s.

Rodgerball with tons of possession and a sloppy mistake with a JWP/Adams goal with us huffing and puffing once it’s too late 😢

I'm now so convinced that we're going to contrive to F this up with some sort of defensive horror show that I'm just not sure I want to put myself through it. 

 

I think I'm going to hide behind the sofa all day and just take a glimpse at FT before I go to bed and see whether the Brendan Rodgers and Danny Ward threads have gone 'hot'

We should be able to win this match, even with the usual howlers from Ward. Their defense, like ours, is shit, but they don't score many goals, which is something no other team in the bottom 10 does better than us.
