Looking much healthier, but still a concern.

Let's hope we've not enticed Coady and Winks here with huge promotion wage bonuses. We'd never do that surely.

Promotion bonuses are deductable for FFP calculations.

Hopefully we did one off big bonus rather than pay raises which would count.

There is a train of though the signing in 22/23 were signed on smaller wages then our pervious signings.

If you were Winks and Coady you’d fire your agent if there wasn’t a promotion bonus….

Promotion bonuses are deductable for FFP calculations so bonuses are OK.

From memory never have we got a January window right under Rudkin. Rodgers squad needed an injection of quality in 3 Jan windows for differing reasons but failed every time with either nothing or crap.

This one we may be OK but feels like when things get complicated he either has to get Whelan involved (Fofana sale)or it flops.

From memory at the time Tete and Under were supposedly sensational signings on here…..both bang below average

Same problem different time, on here when we sign someone, they are the new Ronaldo, within three weeks they are Ronald MacDonald…the outcry at losing Sensi (We never had him) was unbelievable for an Inter Milan reserve with Ryan Bertrand’s injury record…..let’s think it through 28 Inter Milan, Serie A, for Leicester City at Stoke in February….obviously very attractive..we’ll get him for nowt in summer…..

Yes Mr Bird its all about this one transfer and nothing else, its not like everything has been hunky dory up until this point.   Honestly people can be extremely selective with their memories.

But even if it was, trying to defend making a deal multiple times, and then having a player travel over for a medical only to say sorry we dont want you now just isnt on.  If we didnt want to take the player because of injury record or cost, then just say no to the deal and cancel it earlier.

99% of the people calling for Rudkin’s head have no idea what he does or the restrictions the club faces. It’s just a rabid mob with no clue. Same crowd who are unhappy with Enzo’s style of play whilst we top the league and break records on our way back to the Prem.

How was your wedding Top.

This is where I am at with Rudkin and this has nothing to do with him not just signing players willy nilly, last season I felt so frustrated that Rodgers had clearly given up and didn’t have the clubs interest at heart and was blatantly sabotaging the club for his own means and agenda.

in the case of Rudkin, I honestly believe he is out of depth and not qualified to be the Director of Football at a football club with the ambitions and aspirations we have to be disrupting the big 6. We have a world class training facility and a very exciting young manager, and yet we have Rudkin who I believe is massively holding us back.

If anyone says FFP to me, I will reply it is Rudkin, who has in the main,  negotiated the  exorbitant transfer fees and dished out massive wages and contracts to some very bang average players, which has completely hamstrung us for 3/4 windows where we have ended up with a bloated and unbalanced squad,.

in addition have a look at the recruitment heads,  scouts, analysis team and medical staff who have moved on over the last 10 years, nobody has come knocking at his door, for a club that was identified as a model club, if we are so innovative and creative why do we have such a high turnaround of staff. We clearly have had some very talented people working for us and yet it’s very rare we see these people promoted and have to move on to take senior roles elsewhere.

it feels to me he suppresses any real talent we have as they are a direct threat to him and having high calibre people in roles will only further highlight his shortcomings so he protects his interests and position.

Enzo is an interesting one as he seems to be very focused and very professional, with very high standards, and he doesn’t seem to be a shrinking violet, his opinions on how the club is performing in certain areas may well be putting Rudkin under the spotlight and under some uncomfortable scrutiny.

I hope Top realises what a good coach and manager we have and makes sure we don’t lose him, if we really want to progress again, we need a fresh pair of eyes and a different outlook, a sporting director who can open up new markets where we can unlock value. It all seems very stale and samey from Rudkin.

I know that it’s just conjecture and that we can’t see the inner workings but this is exactly my take too. You’ve articulately it really well.

For me the unfortunate reality of the son inheriting the empire is that he is too inexperienced to recognise the above and will stick with Rudkin through comfort and familiarity.

It sounded like Rudkin wrote that article on behalf of Tanner 🤣

It does a bit doesn’t it ? It’s difficult to believe that would really happen. Especially the lawyers running out of time - if that has happened - city need new lawyers. Especially given the comment around the standard docs being more extensive due to EFL requirements.

I'd imagine it's more likely that the crowd calling for Rudkins head are the exact opposite of the crowd that are unhappy with Enzo.

Funnily enough people moaning about Enzo’s brand of football need to realise the style of play is exactly how the owner and Ridkin want us to play, once Enzo leaves we will appoint another possession based Manager/Coach. This is the style they want and why they target the managers we do such as Puel, Rodgers and now Maresca.

The market is now tiny as well. Vast majority of European clubs aren't even close to being able to afford the wages paid by prem clubs.

So you're stuck trying to offload surplus players to the same few clubs in the same league, even if a player possibly suits a style of play abroad.

That said we do seem to be particularly bad at moving players on.

This is really at the heart of the problem. English football in particular has become bloated with very average overseas players earning a wage that is not commensurate with their abilities and talent.

Now I'm not having a go at the players who are only accepting what has been offered to them and why shouldn't they. This is a pretty big if but, if the premier League crack down properly on those clubs who step outside FFP then hopefully we can start to see an end to the frankly ridiculous wages that are offered. We have a system awash with more money than it ought to know what to do with yet spends far too much of it on player wages. Agents are another problem which only exacerbates the issue.

I'd like to see a system where clubs can only spend 50% of their income on player wages and bonuses etc and then some of the money used to directly reduce the terribly expensive costs for the fans of match tickets and season tickets.

Of course I know this won't happen but until the wages of average players are brought down all clubs will continue to find it hard to move unwanted players on.

Broadly completely agree.  Particularly on ticket prices.

I've said before that I don't have an issue with footballers earning very good money, it's one of the few jobs where the person at the coal face is actually able to properly monetise and claim a fair share of commercial revenues from the company that employs them. But the current situation is beyond ridiculous and it's unsustainable.

My concern, though, is that FFP will end up reinforcing and exacerbating the power of the few super clubs who hoover up the vast majority of revenue via large international fan bases, TV rev etc. They are going to be able to outspend all other clubs with ease and there's no chance of anyone crashing the party.

FFP also inhibits investment in clubs outside the traditional elite.  Sometimes companies do have to make losses, particularly when growing or establishing themselves.

There are no easy answers.

  • The deal then got bogged down with the lawyers, Inter took longer than expected but we gave them extra time
  • Problem then was when we then got the term sheet, Leicester's document in response was longer due to EFL requirements
  • Their lawyers were surprised by the length of it and then had amendments but there wasn't enough time for Leicester's lawyers to review them

this bit here just doesn’t sound realistic. If it is, Rudkin hasn’t made the biggest cock up in the process.

My day job is handling contracts of these values, it’s the most plausible explanation I’ve seen for the issues.

Contracts can be incredibly complex for even the simplest of things, and that’s before you’re having to balance two different legal systems in the mix.

Things can get messy, people argue about what seem to be tiny clauses that have huge impacts and for things get done you need input from several parties from both sides.

I agree, the board silence is part of the problem.

I do wonder like @Ric Flair seemed to on their latest pod if Rudkin would have been moved of LCFC to a role within KP by now if Vichai were still around, Rudkin seems to have far more influence over Top than he did his father, how many different jobs did you say he had Ric?

internally more worrying than publicly this is a second manager that seemed to be surprised money they thought was available wasn't, it would suggest they aren't talking to the manager as much as they should be
