If you could keep one player for the Championship

Who? (Excluding Maddison)

 

For me it's Nacho. Think it's clear even if we stayed up he should now be the main man up top. He's spent most of his time here seemingly content with life on the bench so I don't feel like he's one of these players who feels he must play at the highest level. As long as he's assured of being first choice I think he could stay.

 

Out of contract next year but he's not likely to fetch north of 10/15m if we sold him now, with the players we need to sign this summer we're better of holding on to him even if it means losing him for nothing next summer. Then when he's bagged 20 goals before Christmas and we're top of the league he'll be signing on the dotted line, jobs a good'un.

I live and work in Nottingham these days. Wonderful experience for the footy!  Anyway..  at work this week a forest fan was 'being advised' by a Chelsea fan that "when leicester go down and if you stay up, it'd be worth a punt on getting Vardy in for a year".   

Made my stomach turn.  Got me thinking though. Surely Vards wouldn't ruin his legendary status by prolonging his premier career for a year with florist??  Would he...

Probably Barnes or nacho.

 

If we aim for an instant return. We prob need to keep barnes, nacho, ndidi, soumare, vardy, faes, inverson, Justin. Will need some serious additions as many will leave.

Wouldn't keep Maddison even if wanted to stay and willing to cut his salary in half. The guy is crocked yet wants to do everything. We need him gone and to build a new identity where a jumped up primadonna isn't calling all the shots in his little clique of lads. 

 

I love Kels, but he is prone to periods of absolute honking performances. Saints away is an example where a lot of us conveniently forget how bad he can be. Also, last season he went on a long barren spell where he tried to chip keepers each week. However, with 1 year left on his deal we should probably cash in. He's not signing a new deal with us in the Championship so probably best take the money.

 

For me, we need to keep KDH. Lower PL upper Championship player, he should be able to excel at this level and be a real driving force for us. If he can use the opportunity to improve parts of his game, and we find ourselves somehow back in the PL, then he can continue to be a good asset for us. He's on a long deal too, so we can afford to wait before we try and cash in.

Kel is the only one I’d be genuinely gutted to lose tbh. Maddison and Barnes will be sold, I think we could get reasonable money for Faes, Ndidi, Justin, Castagne, Daka, Soumare etc and will (rightly or wrongly) look to sell even if we don’t necessarily make our money back on a couple…

 

A spine of Iversen, Souttar, KDH and Kel is half decent but I don’t think we’ll be able to keep Iheanacho. Shame really because he’s about the only player I bloody like.

In the championship we will need at least 2 players scoring 20 plus goals and buying strikers with that profile is going to take a load of coin we ain’t likely to have (given need to replace 10-15 players) so I would keep Kels.

 

a new midfield is the priority for me.

Burnley went up with their top four goalscorers on 19, 13, 11 and 10 lol I get your point, as long as we don't lose both of Nacho/Daka we should have enough firepower. Midfield is an issue though, and wingers still especially if Barnes goes

Some people saying KDH but as I think he is realistic to keep anyway, I’m thinking those that are unrealistic who I’d want to keep if we could so either Nacho or Barnes.

 

Probably Nacho as his mentality seems better and would probably be better suited to the championship. Of Barnes head was in the game he could test it up down there though.

Expect Daka to be sold tbh in the hope we can add to the war chest

In fairness, the original post does say excluding Maddison….

 

But its also about being both realistic and who would actually put a shift in in the Championship.
