The thread is "If you could keep one player for the Championship"

You said you would keep KDH over Maddison (or Nacho lol)

Its clear you don't really know what awaits us in the championship, nor understand contract situations. Madders has proven he is not capable of even a lower PL league scrap, what makes you think he is going to have the stomach or the fight for (at least) a year in the Championship when he only has 1 year left on his deal. Its not even a case of maybe even wanting him - he's been long gone for some time and we must cash in. So yes, I would take KDH over him any day because KDH would put a shift in for us in the championship and Madders just wont care.  Its not about which one is the better footballer.

As for Nacho, love the bloke, but you need to look at that contract situation carefully again. He has 1 year left. He's surely not going to sign another deal is he? Therefore, do you take a punt on him being able to get us back up, or do you take the cash.

Its a moot point anyway. Its not about 1 player, its about getting a new spine right. Lots of games to play in the lower league.

What a load of conjectured bull, he's literally been our best player. The fact that he tries to do to much shows he cares, he'd get 20 goals and assists in the Championship as would Nacho

We'd be promoted by Xmas

Imagine saying KDH over Madders lol

I think everyone is working on the assumption Maddison is guaranteed to go, the thread opener even says (excluding Maddison)

Kel is the only one I’d be genuinely gutted to lose tbh. Maddison and Barnes will be sold, I think we could get reasonable money for Faes, Ndidi, Justin, Castagne, Daka, Soumare etc and will (rightly or wrongly) look to sell even if we don’t necessarily make our money back on a couple…

A spine of Iversen, Souttar, KDH and Kel is half decent but I don’t think we’ll be able to keep Iheanacho. Shame really because he’s about the only player I bloody like.

Agree with all of this apart from Souttar, I think he’s far too one dimensional and really limits the the sort of manager we should be looking for if he becomes part of the spine.

His lack of speed and agility really limits how we could play with him. I’d rather cut our losses and sell him, it’s definitely a raw deal for the lad as he’s barely had a chance, but I just don’t rate him on the limit time he’s had and the sort of manager/style I’d like to see he just would never work.

I've said before, I can see some absolute shit show from the club where they hold out for an unrealistic amount and we still have him first day. DJ Campbell style but it's £50m not £500,000

A fully fit James Justin.

I hope - perhaps over optimistically - that he is over the worst of his injuries, will get a full preseason under his belt and is player who will be key to our fight to return to the top flight.

Wasn't he class for Stoke? I don't think lack of pace in a centre half is the be all and end all.

I’m honestly not 100% sure, I know Stoke were not pulling up any trees and had Alex Neil in charge at the time. You’re right it’s not the be all and end all, Evans isn’t fast but he reads the game well so he’s often in the right position to offset his lack of pace.

Souttar to me not only seems slow but very gangly and isn’t able to turn, struggles with agile strikers turning him on the break, just seems like the sort of player that you’re forced to use a deep block with.

No doubt he will still be here next season so hopefully he proves me wrong!

So, there is a lot of people going for Nacho, which i don't disagree with, but....

Are you happy to keep him knowing its very, very likely he walks out on a free at the end of next season? No chance he signs a new deal. This is the exact situation many of us have criticised the club over (letting players run contracts down). We cant criticise this when it suits as and turn a blind eye  again when it suits us.

Even for the first year in the championship, we have to be getting things right with player contracts.

He has only just comeback from rave reviews from the World Cup.

Yes he isn’t a pace merchant but is dominant in the air, similar to Walsh, Taggart, Huth and big Wes in that respect.

He could be successful next to a Quicker centre back.

Most Stoke fans were gutted when he left, I think he’d be ideal for us at level. Doesn’t seem a complete fanny either.

In a dream world Harvey, he’d obliterate the Championship. More realistically Daka, in the right setup I think he’d be amazing at that level.

Agreed.

They were obviously better players but Klopp won the Bundesliga and reached a Champions League final playing Subotic and Hummels in a very very high line. Too many are written off as limited because they aren’t Linford Christie

Really surprised at so much Nacho love. Aside from that 2021 purple patch, he's missed so many chances in so many games. If he stays he needs to be signing a one year extension too, can't be having anymore contracts being run down.

Apart from KDH maybe I can't think of any one player I'd be desperate to keep. If Evans or Pereira could stay injury free maybe but right now I couldn't give a crap if we start on August 5th with a fresh XI free from the mental breakdown this squad has had.

Obvs. lots of work needed in the summer, with limited cash.

Defence will change (Cags to go, likely Castagne, Evans, Amartey also, maybe RP) and think Souttar could play a big role next season.

Goals crucial in the championship and I think you can rely more on Kels to contribute than Daka. 1 of the 2 will be sold at least.
