Really surprised at so much Nacho love. Aside from that 2021 purple patch, he's missed so many chances in so many games. If he stays he needs to be signing a one year extension too, can't be having anymore contracts being run down.

Apart from KDH maybe I can't think of any one player I'd be desperate to keep. If Evans or Pereira could stay injury free maybe but right now I couldn't give a crap if we start on August 5th with a fresh XI free from the mental breakdown this squad has had.

You can never fault Nacho’s effort. When he has a bad game it’s never through lack of endeavour, he just isn’t a naturally gifted footballer. He easily goes from Carnage to sublime.

I reckon he would score shit loads in the championship. But he would be ideal for a team on the periphery of Europe. I can see Brighton or someone if a similar stature going for him.

Goals crucial in the championship and I think you can rely more on Kels to contribute than Daka. 1 of the 2 will be sold at least.

They're two different players in fairness. Happier to lose Daka because I think Nacho can play deeper and contribute more than just goals.

I don't think he would stay but it would be Barnes for me. Gets so much unfair stick on here but look at his numbers, he'd tear the championship a new one

Agree with all of this apart from Souttar, I think he’s far too one dimensional and really limits the the sort of manager we should be looking for if he becomes part of the spine.

His lack of speed and agility really limits how we could play with him. I’d rather cut our losses and sell him, it’s definitely a raw deal for the lad as he’s barely had a chance, but I just don’t rate him on the limit time he’s had and the sort of manager/style I’d like to see he just would never work.

I know it’s not as simple as this but I would just like defenders to defend. All the other stuff has all contributed to our diabolical defensive record over the past couple of years at least.

Again, not as simple as this but imagine if you could have put some of the attacking players we have had recently in front of that back 4 from 2015/16.

Back to basics for me. Forget a defensive line on the half way line. Forget the endless passing round at the back. Defenders who can defend please!

So, there is a lot of people going for Nacho, which i don't disagree with, but....

Are you happy to keep him knowing its very, very likely he walks out on a free at the end of next season? No chance he signs a new deal. This is the exact situation many of us have criticised the club over (letting players run contracts down). We cant criticise this when it suits as and turn a blind eye  again when it suits us.

Even for the first year in the championship, we have to be getting things right with player contracts.

Why is there no chance he'll sign a new deal? Not in the summer no, but if he's playing regularly and scoring and we're doing well, why not?

Yeah and I'm not on a mission to slag him off or anything like that, the stick he got in his first couple of years here was pretty vile TBH it just struck me there was a lot of selective memory with his finishing prowess. Knackering his season to provide that assist at Leeds sums up what we've been missing in most areas.

Who? (Excluding Maddison)

For me it's Nacho. Think it's clear even if we stayed up he should now be the main man up top. He's spent most of his time here seemingly content with life on the bench so I don't feel like he's one of these players who feels he must play at the highest level. As long as he's assured of being first choice I think he could stay.

Out of contract next year but he's not likely to fetch north of 10/15m if we sold him now, with the players we need to sign this summer we're better of holding on to him even if it means losing him for nothing next summer. Then when he's bagged 20 goals before Christmas and we're top of the league he'll be signing on the dotted line, jobs a good'un.

Choudhury..& KDH…Nacho.
The best comes in 3s.

What's stopping him extending if we're going well?

Why would he? it would just limit his options when he is free.  I don't understand why is acceptable to critisise the club for handling of contracts, whilst openly hoping we keep someone who will be running down their contract.

You're the one who said there was no chance lol Maddison/Tielemans a couple years from the end of their contract we could have got north of 50m. Nacho has probably never been worth half that. If Maddison ran down his contract he is 99.9% guaranteed to leave, like Tielemans. If Nacho still hasn't put pen to paper come December it's not as big a lost cause like it is with Maddison/Tielemans, even if he waited to talk to other clubs as well as us.

But it's contextual. We were / have been a solid premier league club when we let very competent players contracts run down.

*This summer* what does Kel fetch? 15m? What's the going rate for a striker who'll be top tier championship class these days? £10-15m? Even then there's no guarantee whoever you buy will necessarily work, whereas we know Iheanachos qualities. Feels like a roll of the dice that's probably worth it even in the (unlikely, imo) event he stinks the npower out and walks for nothing.

Iheanacho, but I’d be embarrassed for him if he didn’t demand a transfer. He’s one of the few players who can claim the club has treated him poorly (football wise), even before this season.

I sometimes wonder if I'm watching a different Nacho to other people.

He is not a good footballer. Poor control and poor touch. He does put himself about which is needed, and a lot of his goals are a result of this, and a lot of slices of luck. But you can't make up for the lack of basic akills.

He has been unable to hold down a regular place under multiple managers. And no club has come in to buy him - so managers and Premier League scouts seem to be watching the same player as me!

I'm pretty sure we'll get to see whose right though, as I just can't see anyone coming in with a decent offer for him.

It’s not ideal and it’s an issue that the club can’t seem to get to grips with.

But what would we get for Ianacho and could we sign a replacement as good, for that amount?

Probably not,so even though his standard can be  champions league one minute and mutual league the next -

its Nacho for me.

Listen, you may as well have just quoted my OP in response to him!

Your argument against him can’t be that he scores the majority of his goals through “slices of good luck” what on earth
