But also very one dimensional, no defensive nous. Lost the ability to dribble as time went on. Was limited in linking play if he wasn't 2 on 2 attacking. Passing was limited, couldn't cross. But yeah could finish well given the angle. Being a bright young spark you can't blame either him or the team for moving on. Could have a stellar career from here if he applies himself. To good for the Championship, settled in the Prem. Leaves a hole but it's a hole than can be filled if the club does it's due diligence. Spot on.
sdb Posted 19 July 2023 Posted 19 July 2023 (edited) ****ing hell. We are such an embarrassment of a football club these days. A player of his profile goes for well over £50m, especially with these types of clubs who effectively print money. We are just so, so badly run. When did it just flip to a bunch of imbeciles running lcfc? Edited 19 July 2023 by sdb
HoChiMinhFOX Posted 19 July 2023 Posted 19 July 2023 Just can't help feeling we've been short changed with this. With the English tax should be going for £45m+. Especially when fecking Gordon's gone for more... Will miss Harvey, not often you get quality local lads doing well as part of the first team.
scinnell Posted 19 July 2023 Posted 19 July 2023 (edited) I don't understand people questioning the price. Player obviously wants the move and has no hunger to play in the Championship. Anything close to 40 million is a good price. Great player, but we rebuild. Good luck Harvey in the Champions League! Edited 19 July 2023 by scinnell 3

Plus it seemed like only one club really wanted him. There wasn’t a way of driving the price up. The club have done OK considering. This. Not sure what world some of our fans live in but it’s not planet earth. Great opportunity to get new blood in that we can grow to love. He’s a sellable asset and we’ve just been relegated, more than halving our income…

Legend_in_blue Posted 19 July 2023 Posted 19 July 2023 (edited) He's gone, we move on. None of the current crop of players that have moved on will achieve what they've achieved here in football terms. Just more money. Edited 19 July 2023 by Legend_in_blue 1

Diffco Posted 19 July 2023 Posted 19 July 2023 Approx. 40m is a decent return for a relegated team I think. About what we could've expected. Blows my mind more that 40m is now considered peanuts and a going transfer of 100m is now considered average, even if true world class talents don't move for that. Transfer market is absolutely bullshit crazy. 1
adejo92 Posted 19 July 2023 Posted 19 July 2023 A great loss but easy to accept as it's been on the cards for a while now.
Popular Post Number 6 Posted 19 July 2023 Popular Post Posted 19 July 2023 I think some of the prices are us actually trying to correct some of the mistakes made last summer. Haggle over fee, drag on all summer, too late to get replacement in. Madders deal sorted very early allowed us to completely rebuild the defence. Barnes deal mid July allows us to start adding the attacking pieces before the season starts. It's maybe £5m-£10m shy, but there are benefits in not dragging this out. 9
The_77 Posted 19 July 2023 Posted 19 July 2023 A lot of people who want Barnes’ output to go along with elite defensive statistics either have never seen an attacking winger play football or need to seriously adjust their expectations for that position.

I doubt we’ll be spending much of the Barnes money for now. your wingers/creative midfielders will need to be covered by further sales I think. If we have deals lined up then we may spend ahead of them going through due to the security of the Barnes money being in place We will spend a good chunk of it. We'd be fools not to, how else are we going to find the supply of goals otherwise? Maybe we will rely on loan deals but I think we'll bring 3-4 more in across midfield and out wide.
FosseSpark Posted 19 July 2023 Posted 19 July 2023 If players like Praet, Castagne, Faes buy in to Maresca ball then we will be retaining a lot of quality that looked likely to go. Im presuming that by playing them all in his first XI for second game running that he sees them playing a part.

Christ, he did 5 years ago when he was barely out of nappies. If we're letting players go so vastly under price, why not just pay off the donkeys who graze at Seagrave everyday.
sdb Posted 19 July 2023 Posted 19 July 2023 Isn't that Lavia from Soton going for £50m odd? What's he done that makes him 20% better than Barnes? I'm so confused by this.

Yes, £50m+ for a prem player from a prem club. But we are not anymore and the sooner you accept it, the more you will realise actually it's the best we can do in our position
kingkisnorbo Posted 19 July 2023 Posted 19 July 2023 Simply do not trust Dudkin with the dough. Massive loss.
Guest nathan. Posted 19 July 2023 Posted 19 July 2023 Take off the blue spectacles. Barnes is a £40m player and that’s pushing it.

K789 Posted 19 July 2023 Posted 19 July 2023 Happy with that fee. Interested to see how howe deals with Barnes off the ball work which is non existent
LVFox Posted 19 July 2023 Posted 19 July 2023 All the best to him, developed into a wonderful player and hope he smashes the champions league. Don't think we can argue with the price, clubs obviously weren't queuing up to pay 45 so 38 is decent enough. Now we need 3 wingers and a cm.

Fox92 Posted 19 July 2023 Posted 19 July 2023 (edited) I’ve never rated him highly but worth more than £38m surely. Mind you he’s only got double figures in the league once. Edited 19 July 2023 by Fox92
