That's the spirit, unless you think Newcastle are going to fall foul of FFP and be relegated to the bottom tier of the Football leagues. We'll be back next year, I'm full confidence and expectation.

Simply won't be able to replace his output, we are a significantly weaker side without him. He will be missed, his weaknesses aside his output at the top end of the premier League goal / assist charts was brilliant and can't be replaced easily if at all. Never replaced Mahrez did we. I for one like Barnes and wish him well and I hope he kicks on and gets a shed load more. He's a good player. However pragmatically we needed to cash in, wasn't signing a new contract and the utter stupidity of letting players leave on a free can't be repeated. We're a selling club. But if it means we wisely reinvest in multiple positions to get us back up then it's a means to an end.

We need to replace the best part of 40 goal contributions a season in Barnes and Maddison. These creative and attacking players actually need to be able to score goals, Maresca has no excuses if he doesn't replace them properly. The money is there. we’ve spent some of the madders money on winks, coady and mads. I doubt we’ll be spending much of the Barnes money for now. your wingers/creative midfielders will need to be covered by further sales I think. If we have deals lined up then we may spend ahead of them going through due to the security of the Barnes money being in place

I agree with you and I'm confused by some people's reactions. But... I still cant get over last year. The players were apart of the problem and he was one of them. I won't and don't understand how it went so wrong but not one of the were man enough to own it either. So for that he goes. We rebuild and come back stronger. 1

It's a decent deal, and in our current position, probably the best we could hope for. Could have got a bit more, but I'm not sure the £60m would have been realistic. But you have to realise where we are currently, if we were still premier league and in a good position, then yes we could ask for more, but we're not. We are a championship side. Always sad to see a talented academy player leave, and I hope he gets a good reception on his return whenever that will be. Edited 19 July 2023 by fox_favourite
VictorFox Posted 19 July 2023 Posted 19 July 2023 Regardless of how good he can be, he was part of the problem last year and failed to show up when we needed him. Wish him all the best but a good deal to get him gone

He's worth more than Maddison imo, also younger and had longer on his contract. Very definition of a terrible deal.
SafewayFox Posted 19 July 2023 Posted 19 July 2023 (edited) Anyone saying nonsense like “good riddance” or “Harvey is rubbish” should have a long look in the mirror. Local lad, great goal contributions in a side that has regressed massively so will obviously be missed. However, if he isn’t up for the fight, it is best to sell him for as much as we can. Only Albrighton left who can play on the wing and sadly he’s past it, is a huge concern for me. Edited 20 July 2023 by SafewayFox 3

It's hard to be excited for another season Dont let the fact the club trying to save a few quid on transfers last summer has cost them 10x more than they saved is one of the biggest factors to us going down. We slept at the wheel and crashed. Edited 19 July 2023 by Gav_LCFC14

Very definition of a terrible deal. Maddison has more talent. To reiterate, we are a championship club, not premier league. We can't demand high fees anymore, in anyway you sugar coat it. It's not a fantastic deal, but a decent one in our position. Edited 19 July 2023 by fox_favourite
21st Century Fox Posted 19 July 2023 Posted 19 July 2023 There aren't that many players from the Brendan era I'm that gutted to see go but Barnes is one of them. That being said they all let us down to a degree so it feels quite cathartic to clear the deck and scrub the stench of Brendan's toxic reign.
Jazzy_Jeff Posted 19 July 2023 Posted 19 July 2023 Just as we found with Maddison, none of the elite clubs have come in for him. I don’t think Newcastle will finish top 4 next season. So if we’re back in the premier league next season Maddison and Barnes will be in the same place they were with us a couple of years ago - with more money in the bank.
ARTY_FOX Posted 19 July 2023 Posted 19 July 2023 (edited) 38 million is a horrendous deal for Harvey Barnes. It's a joke really. Whoever is in charge of our outgoings needs investigating Edited 19 July 2023 by ARTY_FOX 1
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 19 July 2023 Posted 19 July 2023 I think it's a means to an end we have to sell to rebuild nothing more nothing less does he want to go? Sounds like it has he been a good player for us - yes generally yes we move on 3
HankMarvin Posted 19 July 2023 Author Posted 19 July 2023 Shame, the best youth product we have produced in my opinion. Think he still has another level he can reach in the right team. 2

James_lcfc Posted 19 July 2023 Posted 19 July 2023 I see the point of those complaining about the fee, but we have lost a lot of our leverage after getting relegated. Plus it seemed like only one club really wanted him. There wasn’t a way of driving the price up. The club have done OK considering. 2

splinterdream Posted 19 July 2023 Posted 19 July 2023 We clearly need money in before we move on deals, so to get our targets we needed that money, and the Saudis knew it, I expect there'll be 2/3 more signings coming in now, I really hope our targets are rough diamond's and not lumps of coal
