Yeah but let's all just take a minute to remember, we used to be in League One and that we should be careful what we wish for.

Who even says this any more though lol

It's used as a stick to beat someone with in a quote, but does it actually hold any substance?

It never held any substance, we were a different animal when people used to say it, it was still said numerous times when people should have been opening their eyes though.

We were in league one for one season out of 100 plus anyway

Its not like we’re a Bournemouth or Luton

Even Forest, Leeds and the Sheffield clubs have spent much longer in the third tier

Being a bit of an ostrich if you deny Rodgers called it and changes needed to happen, he is to blame for part of it but he was also let down in the summer by the board, they all play a part but for me most of the blame falls at Rudkin's door

But if he was so unhappy he should have walked rather than stinking the place out with his negativity. This squad should have been Good enough to stay up even with no signings. But Rodgers gave up and passed his negativity all through the club and fans

I'm sorry pal, but this is more victim mentality shite.

The media are piling in precisely BECAUSE we'd smashed the glass ceiling and had become a PL aristocracy. No words written about Norwich or Southampton or West Brom, the club we were. We are now a Villa, a Newcastle, a Leeds. We are a story and it is an absolute omnishambes that we've fcked it up

Exactly this.

Rivalry or non rivalry aside, best comparision is between us and someone like a newly promoted side like Forest in terms of difference in stature of club between us. As deluded as they are, the Forest fans get on like we did in our first season back in the premier league, clinging on to any crumb of validation from other premier league clubs like Brentford or Palace. In the eyes of the footballing worlds if they went down next season they've be just another club that came up and went down like Norwich or Watford last season that you wouldnt bat an eyelid at. Like it or not but it's a big deal for the media that we're down.

Difference being we're more pissed off about how the fvck this happened rather than what others think about it.

I'll stick up for him there (Wow!). Why should he? He was entitled to alot of money.

It's like the people who blamed him from what he was earning - the club offered it him, he's gonna take it.

Yes he clearly didn't wanna be here and wanted out but that's where a conversation should have took place between the him and the club whereby they came to a mutual agreement that he took a smaller albeit still a very handsome sum should have been facilitated either end of last season, the summer or at the very latest a few games into the season, he'd have walked away with alot more credit in the bank, we'd have gave ourselves a much better chance of staying up.

Either do the job you're being paid very highly to do or feck off. Of course its not as simple as that in world football but he clearly didn't want to be here, had no ambition to help us stay up yet was still one of the highest paid managers in the league. The guy is an absolute disgrace!

A good 60% of our fanbase are pathetic individuals. Absolute losers. I'm not a winner in life by any means, but large sections of our support are borderline mentally ill.

I'll be honest,.I despise large sections of our support

Done well to meet that many, well done sir.

Finally sacking Rodgers and not having a clue who replace him with, then letting the

guys who put the cones out piss away 2 games sums up the incompetence of those

supposedly running this club.

Can't read this due to paywall, can someone link the 12ft thing or copy n paste please?

Decent article - thanks to those who shared the paywall link.

However, I think he lets Rodgers easily: he should clearly have never let it get as bad as he did.

Also don’t agree with Dean Smith having a “nearly impossible job”. The fixtures included Leeds (who were in utterly terrible form at the time), Everton (Terrible away record), Wolves (Basically safe), Fulham (who had little to play for) & West Ham (Nothing to play for & far more focused on ECL) - this was by far an impossible job and he should have done far better.

I think dean smith butchered it completely tbh.

The last 2 he had a game plan and we were improved but a better manager guides us to safety easily imo.

Again though, the board p*ssed around and we forefitted a very winnable game against bmouth… if smith had arrived a game earlier we’d probably be safe

Without doubt, the board not having a plan in place for the Villa/Bournemouth double header was disgusting.

But yes, it’s true - Smith had no plan for the most important games in our season - even the Wolves  win he got away with.

Very surprised to see so many people defending Smith this evening.

We needed three wins to have a good chance , four to be certain, we got two

Everton at home is the one we had to win

Thought all interviews he gave were pretty poor also today. He was here long enough to point a few fingers or take some responsibility. He didn’t and sat on the fence the whole time. Personally will be glad to see the back of him.

It's not so much a defence of Smith. More about making sure that cretin Mimi Me isn't getting through unscathed for our relegation.

FWIW though Smith has been a disappointment at the crunch. It didn't work out.

Time to move on. Not that I'd be expecting anything from our clueless board given the last 12 months.
