I don’t know how people can say no to Mckenna, I know he’s not been tested but he’s by far the best option on that list. A young manager with an actual identity and style of football which we could integrate into our new team and get started with right away sounds just what we’re after. I know Potter is the pipe dream but from the names we’ve been given, Mckenna is by far the best choice.

Cogs turning in the boardroom

“what do we want?”

”promotion”

”pro-what-now?”

”promotion, its when you are good enough to get back into the premier league Jon”

”who has done that before?”

Can someone start a Kieran McKenna thread like they do on other forums eg Spurs forum had a Ange Postecoglou thread and eventually the board listened and got them their choice.

How can you possibly prove that happened just out of interest? Or are you taking the piss?

I rate McKenna but if I was forced to choose the ideal candidate from this list for our current scenario, Parker has done it twice with limited budget.

Mckenna would be a better long term manager potentially but he’s unproven at this level.

none of the above it given the choice, Jaissle all the way.

My first choice would be McKenna, as I think he will have a similar impact as Pearson, 2nd choice Parker as I think he will do what is required to get us up and 3rd choice would be Maresca purely because he is fresh and new.

Gerrard or Smith and I am genuinely underwhelmed

I'm not gonna stress about it, theres so many derivatives to us succeeding at promotion 1st attempt, I think most if not all of those managers are capable if we get the right players in. I read a lot down on Smith but he did an okay job, i think the players were unfit, and it was questionable whether to play Youri or not, I get why he did but was probably the wrong move. Newcastle was nearly a master stroke, and Everton would have been 3rd win if not for penalty miss. Pearson was all about fitness, and i think thats the key, these managers know what it's all about, it's the player recruitment and player retention that should be the biggest concern because I wonder if after being stung by Rodgers recruitment, they've insisted on full control in that department

If that’s the list of possibilities, I’d rather go all out and bring Nigel home - come on Top you know it makes sense.

Except it doesn't.  Pearson hasn't exactly set the Championship alight in the last two seasons at Bristol City.

Any takers for a bit of Rafa action?

I think he’d legit be the best appointment, people are far to fixated on an attacking manager when our defensive set up was probably the bigger reason why we’re down

He's done alright, surely. His record in that league comfortably beats every name on that list, bar Parker, and would perhaps surpass him too if circumstances were taken into consideration. No relegations, two play-offs, a great escape, a title with a near-record total, improvement with every team year-on-year if he's given a full season, and successfully rebuilding all three teams that he's managed in that league for longer than six months. Two of which got promoted, the third of which may yet. All in a grand total of, what, eight seasons? And if we're only talking about the last two years, well, he's still done more in that division over that time period than four of the five names. He is also the man who assembled a side which won that division and then, still largely intact, won the Premier League two years later. You can't say that for any other manager in my lifetime, and he just happened to do it at my club. So I'd be nice about him.

Of those four aforementioned names, the only one who has ever done anything in the FLC (and with an arguably inferior record in both the FLC and EPL to Pearson) is our current manager.

As for the list, well, McKenna may well be promising. I read up on the Brendan worship, and his actual comments seemed to be nothing like as reverential as people were making out. I saw his side play four times and they didn't especially remind me of Leicester. I'm also surprised that names like Corberan, Duff, Carrick and Robins aren't on that list. If you add them to the pool, it's slightly less depressing than the prospect of Lampard or Maresca. I can't say I'm too keen on Gerrard or Parker either, especially if you're interested in their input into a squad rebuild, or a long-term project.

To be honest, if the candidates were Duff, Pearson, Corberan, Robins, Carrick and McKenna, I'd actually be the most upbeat about a forthcoming appointment that I've been for a long while. Whenever I'd seen the b and c-list managers that we were linked with in the past, I couldn't help but feel that we were at risk of ending up with the mankiest fish from a massive pond.
