I joined maybe 8 years ago just out of curiosity to find other views on our team and it's performances and I discovered a whole new world of various interests, intellects, discussions, insights, humour, knowledge etc.

 

I come here every day to be enlightened, educated, amused, occasionally offended but mainly because it's a nice place to be, particularly when I need an escape from the day. 

 

Everything about this forum feels like a safe place to be. A place where you can express feelings, give advice, get advice, let off steam, have a laugh, have some banter, feel like you're amongst friends.

 

Like most FT members, I've never met any of you in person but I feel I know you, just a little bit.

 

I Just I like being here and you all seem like mates.

Actually its the wide spread opinions on Football that interest me. After my son was born I fell out of love with football but his interest a few back reenergised me and as a family we are how 'all in' and went to as many home games in the last 2 seasons as we could.

In all seriousness, I enjoy various things:

 

- The football debate, even if I do disagree with someone else. The chat about games, tactics, players, transfers. Even if it involves fans of other clubs too. 

 

- most of the stuff in General Chat - joke thread (not @Izzy's), 'phunny photos...', Wordle/Globle, all the casual and inane chat that comes on that section

 

Escape is a good word to use. It's a welcome distraction throughout the day...

Living on my own now for the first time ever, there are days when I don't have a conversation with anyone, so a forum like FT is an opportunity to communicate with others. Sometimes, the highlight of my day is having a thumbs-up thingy from another FTer, or having the  recycle bins emptied, or successfully paying the latest bill to come in!

First joined in 2008, soon after first getting a season ticket - for the informed LCFC debate (titter ye not).

Have ended up contributing more often to non-football threads (politics, general silliness) and more often tend to browse football threads - mainly avoiding the match thread, which isn't good for anyone's mental health. 

 

FT quickly became a pleasurable counter-balance to a very isolated life - I was married with a 4-year-old when I joined, but worked long hours alone from home in a region I didn't come from.

Now divorced with a 19-year-old and doing a lot less work, but still enjoy FT. Yet I contribute less now (yesterday's politics diatribe notwithstanding), probably a good thing for me and others. 

 

FT is like a local pub, isn't it? You pop in, might bump into someone well informed about LCFC/football (and easy to ignore the bullshitters), some others chatting shit and telling crap (or even funny) jokes, a few others who'll have well-informed views on real-life issues or who might have useful or interesting knowledge you didn't know. Of course, as in any local, you'll bump into prats, bullshitters and annoying people, but they're a minority and easy to avoid (and some who seem like prats or bullshitters at first sight are revealed to have redeeming features).

 

I'll hopefully be leaving Leicester within 2-3 months and only occasionally getting to matches, but I won't be leaving FT. Foxes Talk, warts and all, still a great facility.

As the OP said it definitely feels like a 'safe space' to share views on a variety of topics. Very very rarely gets personal or nasty, even when people have totally opposite views. Which is why I think a lot of us get annoyed at some of the heavy-handed moderation - it seems totally unnecessary.
