When we signed him I was excited as he seemed a good CM with vision and skill to be a distributor of the forward ball.

Now, I don't know what has happened but he's pretty useless in much of what he does. Maybe he's confused as to what RvN wants him to do, CDM out of possession or just a standard CM. Either way he's a misfit.

Hopefully when Wilf can play a full 90 it'll free him up to do just that.

He was good in the Championship when Enzo gave him very strict instructions.

He seems like a calamity in the Prem at the moment. Offers nothing defensively, error prone, lacks physicality, and does not have the range of passing needed.

As a replacement for Tielemans, he shows how far we have sunk.

Isn't he meant to be one of the 'leaders'?

Pathetic. Even if he isn't it was such an amateur performance. I'd like to think some of the actual leaders (if any...) ripped into him.

Said it at the time when we signed both Winks and Coady, we'd learnt absolutely nothing. Neither were coming here on wages that a Championship team ought to be paying and neither (in my opinion) have the strength of character that we were lacking to add more experience to an already ageing squad.

Winks did well last season but so he should given the level he's supposed to be, he's been pony this season though and i dread to think the wages he's on.

Hopefully him and Coady are gone in the summer, along with Ayew and others. They aren't worth the money we pay them.

Agree. However do you really think anyone will pay the wages for those 3 flops?

It's exactly why we have the likes of Ward and Vesty on contracts..... nobody dare touch them.

Only good thing is all 3 will have just 12 months left on their deals and with a relegation wage cut might tempt some naive European clubs or newly promoted PL club to take them on.

By my reckoning there's about £8m we need to cover on their books value for next season offset by the saving in wages so we might be able to get them gone.

Great shout.

With that sentiment though, our recruitment should be studied and critiqued to the ninth degree, say someone is foolish to take one, is there a club out there who would clog up their squad with all three?

Last season was a Rolls  Royce in possession in a team that was set up to dominate and control the ball however out of possession he always looked lightweight and this has been further exasperated at premier league level where his lack of pace and physicality is even more exposed, also given we don’t control the game in the same way I kind of see him as a nothing sort of player, offers little in terms of defensive numbers and offers no real goal involvements.

The issue with our midfield is that at least Ndidi is a destroyer where as Soumare, Winks and Skipp are all vanilla players with no stand out quality, so it’s really difficult to see what any of those 3 actually offer in terms of either defensive structure or providing any meaningful link between defence and attack, whilst offering some sort of creativity.

Soumare has been head and shoulders above Winks and Skipp this season. He's good at carrying the ball and his energy off the ball has improved.

Shows how bad our recruitment is that a previous flop is now one of our good ones.

I've been surprised at how poor he's been this season. Maybe I shouldn't have been.

He's so lightweight, easily bullied off the ball. He doesn't seem to have the physicality to play the position Ruud put him last night. As soon as United started pressing him, the game was lost.

Last night he gifted the ball to United in a dangerous position, was fortunately given it straight back by a poor touch of the United player - then gave it straight back again…farcical..

Showed his leadership qualities in. Copenhagen along with Coady and Vestergaard..

He didnt do enough with it when we were on top yesterday, just pretty little passes with no intent. just happy to be moving side to side. then when we were under pressure he gave it away constantly.

story of him in the prem im afraid.

This thread has gone a bit mad. In the right system Winks is a very useful player to have.

When he's surrounded by 4 crap defenders and a crap midfield and an attack from the last decade

Surely it's especially bad that despite being surrounded by poor players he has arguably been the worst of the lot over the entire season.

As a midfielder, more than any position on the pitch, you cant get away by only being as good as the players around you are. It's fine saying that if Winks played alongside a Rodri or a Gravenberch he would look half decent but as a midfielder you have to be able to win your individual battles and Winks doesnt do that.

I think the winks of the first half of last season would have been great least night. Since that Watford game last season he's been poor.

Last night he was beyond bad. It wasn't a difficult game for him. He had so much time. Even Ndidi, who's strength isn't passing and playing out, made so many more meaningful passes and got us up the pitch.

You'd usually say at least he's good for the championship, but he's another one who believes he's way above that and only wanted the one season down there.

Another player Ruud has ruined its the same with Buonanotte.

Why cant certain players not take responsibility for themselves all of a sudden? Both have pretty obvious flaws, and it's up to them raise their level. Winks was pretty poor under Cooper and has struggled all season. Facundo started well but we were warned by Brighton fans what his flaws were. Neither are Ruuds fault.

Both need to work hard and sort themselves out.

He's no worse than what Tielemans was in his last season with us. He'll be very useful again if we end up in the Championship next season.

I'm pretty sure both weren't as bad under Cooper well Buonanotte wasn't so something has changed?
