He's actually the captain,.in all but armband.

Watch the tunnel at half time. And various other captain's moments - huddles, after goals, conversations with refs.

He does seem fairly vocal, think it was Charlton when Page gave the ball away and they had a decent effort from it, and rather than laying in to him and waving his arms about, he seemed to be encouraging him.

Centre backs are all about partnerships & also the dynamic with the no.6 in front. Lurch looks much more comfortable with Nelson next to him and Skipp in front than Faes and Winks. That block he put in just after they scored was fantastic.

He has his occasional calamitous moments but the stuff that get's laid on him is bordering ridiculous at times imo. There was someone in the match thread who said Stolarcyks brain fart was actually all Verstergaards fault lol

Both seem to be able to rely on eachother to not be rash, be sensible with passing/the ball. They know skipp is going to cover or shield them as well

Well that is stupid (though those goal kicks were so dumb that you'd like to think the players would override the manager's instructions on that). But you only need to look at the lack of criticism he had in this thread for a good patch for he was at fault or played a big part in several goals being conceded, to show that he's actually got off very lightly. Nelson being included has massively improved his performances which isn't a surprise

Just a take;

Vesty's, more than any, body language is the most telling.

He's given up. And oddly I don't mean that as a criticism. Given up as in it's a hopeless cause. To me it's written all over his face.

He can be quite cool and diffident at the best of times, He's put in good tackles today, scored a last minute equaliser midweek.  But there's nothing. He's pissing in the wind with this version of Leicester and knows it.

He could barely be arsed to jump for a header towards the end.

Never seen a player that tall lose out so many aerial duels.

Normally I’d get excited thinking it could spell the end of his time here

Unfortunately nobody in their right mind are going to pay him the same as us and he’s not going to give up his money. We’re now starting to see what’s been happening behind the scenes for years, players that genuinely can’t be arsed to be here and don’t want to earn the money they are stupidly being given

I choose to take a slightly more sympathetic view. In modern work parlance, he's quietly quit.

I don't blame it all on him. The negative energy at the club is soul destroying for everyone with a brain (obvs that excludes Top, Rudkin and 65% of our fanbase). I think Vestergaard does indeed have a brain and as such, this season has broken him

We’ve been relegated twice with him since he’s signed for us (and been a regular). He’s downed tools years ago, if we hadn’t given him a nice new contract he’d of happily walked away from here without a care in the world about Leicester City Football Club.

If it is that he’s ‘quietly quit’ it just sums up the whole attitude of everyone. As a senior player on big wages, he’s had the armband and been out the squad - if he’s a real leader and professional he steps up and delivers when it’s most needed

Doesn’t get into any other team in the championship. Watching him hold on to the ball and do nothing is painful. The guys a relic. Should have let go for nothing when we were last promoted.

I can’t think of a footballer I hate watching more.

I agree largely with you. Earlier in the season it was he he took the pre match huddles a d appeared every inch the de facto captain. Ricardo was never going to be able to deliver  a Churchillian speech. Vestergaard did..

But, he's gone. Completely mentally checked out. I guess we agree on that, if not the reasons behind it.

Verstergaard’s faults are well known and well discussed on here but tbh I’m more concerned with Okoli who can’t pass and whose alleged strong defensive abilities have not been witnessed recently. He’s had a week of being absolutely bullied and outfought at Coventry, at Wrexham and now at home to Oxford.

As much as I agree that he is not a great footballer, if there was any actual good movement from anyone else in the team he wouldn’t have to hold the ball so much.

The real problem is the lack of movement, which shows in our running stats. The whole team just mopes about the pitch with no urgency it’s embarrassing.

Oxford players absolutely hammered us, ran for everything, chased every player and ball down, were strong in the tackle and played like a side full of confidence.

We were the complete opposite.
