Popular Post moore_94 Posted 31 August 2023 Popular Post Posted 31 August 2023 Went over to the Preston forum to ask about him - very much sounds like another Vardy-esque striker: "Cannon's good, but much more a pacy poacher with strength than a build up player. Works hard enough though." "One of the most composed finishers I’ve seen play for us" "Excellent, technical finisher, hard working, quick, intelligent and a damn good player. Would rather he went to you than any other team, still got a soft spot for the Foxes since you won the league, favourite premier league season ever personally." "I’d say if he comes to you Cannon will enjoy and thrive on being mentored by Vardy. He’s good now and I see that making him even better." "TC is a good player, but not sure he will fire you back into the Prem. And he certainly isn’t as good as some strikers that you’ve had in the last 10 years or so." "If you were getting him for £3mil I’d say a good buy for a mid table club-he’s not a top3 championship club starter imo" "Create the chances and he will score." 7 3
Hitesh Posted 31 August 2023 Posted 31 August 2023 Cannons to the Left of them, Cannons to the right of them, Cannons in front of them....
kingpower Posted 31 August 2023 Posted 31 August 2023 Norwich seem to have a good eye for talented youngsters so be good for us to barge in and take one from under their noses

I don’t think you can blame FTers for being underwhelmed when we’re linked with a name most of us (me for one) have never heard of and who’s not good enough for a place among a really poor club’s even poorer attacking options Because he’s young, did well at Championship level last season and is probably going to be a better option than Patson as a 3rd choice striker in this system as he can seemingly control a ball. Everton are hardly going to hinge their Premier League future on an unproven youth player with all the money they’ve ploughed into their forward line. 1
CloudFox Posted 31 August 2023 Posted 31 August 2023 Not convinced yet. If we want an understudy to our main striker(s), I'd rather promote Amani Richards from the U23s, who I swear it was said Enzo liked the look of.
LCFCJohn Posted 31 August 2023 Posted 31 August 2023 I’m concerned about him being touted as a ‘Vardy’ type as that wouldn’t fit our system. Hopefully he is a different kind of striker but I have never seen him play so trust the process I suppose.
AKCJ Posted 31 August 2023 Posted 31 August 2023 Have we actually been linked with any sort of sincerity?

Majority of his 8 goals for Preston last year were what you'd call "Daka-esque" I guess. In behind. I have to be honest and say I don't really know much about the player at all. Several Championship podcasts were really bigging him up. The Second Tier were discussing him moving to Norwich who have lost Josh Sargent until next year and thought he would be a great replacement. Sargent was poor in the Premier League, but leads the press for Norwich really well to get the whole team playing, and they felt Cannon showed that at Preston, plus bagged some good goals. If he's being signed to be the main man, that is a bit scary. If he's coming in for rotation, he seems like a good player to have. At the moment, I have a lot of faith in the manager. Even if individual players haven't been quite as good as I thought they would be (Mavididi for me regressed just a little bit after his goal), I can see what the team is doing and what roles the players are supposed to play. We are super early on in his tenure, and everything will get better. With 5 subs allowed per game, we can do a Man City to this division and bully teams by tiring them out and then putting on fresh quality to make the difference. That is why we've got two players for every position, and likely why we will go up. It is frankly unfair for the other teams.
enmac Posted 31 August 2023 Posted 31 August 2023 If you read the comments from Everton fans, most don't want to sell him.

Thebluefox85 Posted 31 August 2023 Posted 31 August 2023 Fox I hope not if he had half a talent he would be starting in that Everton squad they are absolutely piss poor he ain’t getting in our first team

Enzo seems to favour 1 striker and Nacho and Vardy will be ahead of Cannon surely. I think he would be a good addition though, so we should probably fib to him.

Working under the assumption it's true my conclusion is that it confirms the rumour that we have to pay Salzburg another 5m if Daka plays another game, that that's why he's been frozen out and NOT because Maresca is for some reason "against" a striker that gets in behind. Everyone's obsessed with this idea that a striker has to be heavily involved in the build up play but there's plenty of examples (including Man City last year) where 'poacher' type players have thrived in possession based systems. Hell, we did it very well with Vards in 19/20. I think when you consider the very, VERY different skill profiles of Piroe and Cannon, I think initially we thought it was more likely we'd lose Iheanacho and so we had Piroe lined up as a replacement and now it looks like there might be some vultures circling for Daka, we've got Cannon as an alternative. I personally can't imagine that we'd sell Iheanacho and load up our attack with three strikers that all have the same strengths. Of course, it's possible that both Daka AND Iheanacho will be let go tomorrow but I'd consider that very unlikely. Also, Cannon isn't African ofc which will be important in January. My guess (again, if this isn't a bullshit rumour) is that Daka goes either for a decent loan fee + wages or goes permanently tomorrow and that the ~7m + wages this kid will cost will be covered by that. With Vardy and Iheanacho then out of contract next year we'd potentially have Vards' replacement lined up. 5
Ely fox Posted 31 August 2023 Posted 31 August 2023 I can really picture us signing him. We don’t need any negative exposure on this potential signing.

Seeing it more and more with Man City selling their youth products, see Cole palmer. Its a good way of balancing the books with incoming transfers being amortised over contract length vs a pure profit sale of a youth player.
Nick Posted 31 August 2023 Posted 31 August 2023 Sell Daka anyway but for me on the limited info, he’s not the one unless Enzo reckons he can be transformed into a a baller.
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 31 August 2023 Posted 31 August 2023 Is there any rumours on this lads temperament ? Just hoping he hasn't got a short fuse . . . . 4
Safestandingfox Posted 31 August 2023 Posted 31 August 2023 Not sure why some people are crying about this, he's got 8 goals in 20 in his first half season of senior football, at championship level, that's a fair return in my opinion. 2
