2018 Helicopter Tragedy - Investigation Outcome/Verdict Released

Recommended Posts

Pretty gruesome. Gotta hope in a way that the impact injuries were so severe (probable spinal, leg and internal trauma) that the four living occupants were in severe shock or unconscious and that the fire didn't fully register.

The 'hey hey hey' from the seating compartment is a tough image to dislodge

Edit to add those coppers on site trying to bash the windows. Some of the things emergency services have to do as routine is stuff we'll never have to go through in a lifetime. Hope they are ok. Must be an awful thing to see

I’m surprised they were ever allowed to fly and land a helicopter in the middle of a stadium with thousands of fans around. It was a disaster waiting to happen. Why did he even do it? I guess the people who attended the match that night should feel lucky to escape. Now we’re left with this giant cemetery as our football stadium.

Statistically flying in a helicopter is safer than travelling to the game by car. He was a billionaire, I guess thats the kind of thign you'd get used to.

Irregardless a really shocking report, pilot was a genuine hero.

The Police helicopter used to drop the match ball off for years before that on the remembrance fixture

It’s what they’re taught when training…. Just such a sad tragic event that I don’t think anyone with our club will ever forget.

Remember exactly where I was, 3 phones went off at the same time.

We had just come out of the Parcel Yard and went to catch a train, I have never heard as many sirens before like that, then on the platform news started breaking so onto Sky sports news and it was the ticker tape headline.

Awful night, truly horrific accident, not a lot the best pilots in the world could do in that situation.

This is about treating people with respect and showing some dignity whether it's football or anything else.

If your point is about abuse then I agree. I didn't abuse Rudkin, Rodgers, Wheelan or the players over what happened last season either. However, criticism was very much warranted. He is the chairman of this football club and was responsible for making decisions at a time when the club was failing and this is a football forum for fans of this club to discuss matters concerning the club.

The post looked like a cheap stick to beat other Leicester fans with, on a topic where people are less likely to call you out on it.

Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha, who lost his father, Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, commented:

“I am deeply saddened by the course of events. Almost five years after my father’s passing, this report provides concerning evidence against Leonardo. My father trusted that he had bought a safe helicopter from a world-renowned manufacturer. Had he known what we know now he would never have risked his life in this machine. The pain this causes me and my family is immeasurable and as a family we continue to struggle every day with our grief at the loss of my father. He was a great inspiration to me personally and we all loved him very much.”

The families of three of those lost in the crash – Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, Eric Swaffer, and Izabela Lechowicz – have retained leading litigation specialists’ Stewarts. The family of Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha are now considering their legal recourse against Leonardo. Litigation has already been commenced in Italy on behalf of the families of Eric and Izabela.

Blimey!

Just shed a tear watching the report on BBC East Mids news. :(

Was a decent one that looked back and reminded us of what Vichai did for the club and city and what he meant to us.

Hope he and the others are resting in peace.

All that wealth and in the end a small metal bearing was to end it all …

Life is fragile, death eternal, tell your children you love them and make sure your loved ones know they are loved, none of us know when our time will come and none of us are able to prevent that moment when it does come.

RIP Khun Vichai

I too shed a tear at that report. It was informative, measured, respectful and non-sensational.

Did you get a feeling Natalie was emotionally struggling to end the main report?

First 8 mins of the show and again from 15 mins in......

I’d be surprised if anyone can’t remember where they were like it was yesterday. I remember going down to the ground the day after and it was such a surreal atmosphere, obviously.

Brings it all back. I hope he knew how loved he was by the fans. I’ll never forget him coming over and celebrating with us at Palace and Man U - rest in peace to the others who perished too. Heartbreaking is not strong enough

2 amazing moments in our history and he was there, also the Plaza in Madrid he walked in to have a look at the sea of blue shirts in the afternoon.

I managed to shake his hand one Friday night at West Ham away, he walked through the concourse before kick off surrounded by his minders but I held my hand out and he shook it.
