Thanks for all your help (and a few good laughs 🤣). Not really bothered about the hat as found it at a charity shop while at a festival just needed the shade and for £2 thought it was a bargain. But if anyone knows a young fan who might appreciate it... Let me know.

The holding of Tobruk held no strategic advantage anyway.  Also when he took Tobruk our Eighth Army was so badly supplied, we didn't have enough supplies and equipment especially armoured personnel to put up a good fight. If we did we would have won.   Not sure why Churchill made such a fuss about the holding of Tobruk after the fact.  El Alamein was more important and we checked Rommel the Desert Foxes advance at El Alamein.  Now i'm going on a rant.

 

Anyways when we defeated Rommel we got the hat back and now it's in the possession of @Dan_Cr85

Its not fully clear from the photos - but I think I can see Danny Ward's signature on there. Can you confirm? 

 

I was quite excited to snap up a signed shirt of his for a real bargain recently, and I'd heard a myth he'd once signed a cap, so this could be the holy grail I've been looking for!
