Bristol City have 4 better options at LB than us.

Coventry City have 4 too.

How has it come to this?!

Do either of these clubs have a Rudkin and a Top?

At this point going 3 at the back and shoehorning Ricardo and someone else at wing back may be best.

Take Hamza with a broken left foot at left back over Luke Thomas mind

I agree with this. If we won’t give Aluko regular time in that position (and why wouldn’t we?) then it screams back 3. Teams often go to a back 3 when the CBs and defensive unit isn’t good enough, and ours clearly isn’t. Bring in Souttar to play with Nelson and Okoli. Then Ricardo and Aluko and wing back? Can Aluko play wing back?

This sort of goes under the radar a bit with Rudkin’s overall squad building, where most attention goes to the silly contracts handed out willy nilly. But the composition of the squad is also unbalanced. You’ve highlighted the left back issue, but it’s evident up front and also right back where Choudhury fills in occasionally.

It’s almost like the person in charge of squad building and long term development of the footballing side isn’t very good at his job 🧐

Enzo don’t really play fullbacks,  pre Enzo we had Ricardo, Justin, Castagne and Kristiansen.

The flip flopping in terms of playing style can’t help with squad building.

we’ve only really signed Woyo post Enzo, handed a big contract to Thomas and then realised how bad all of our fullback are!

Put him in central midfield to win some duels and get some intensity in there, he's not a full back.

Aluko surely starts the cup match, and then hopefully makes enough of a good impression to be a starter until we get someone in.

Watch the highlights. There is a bit where I diagonal ball goes into Moore and Hamza is just looking elsewhere then realises he needs to run :):frantics:

Oh to have these 2 this season.

Nope both awful

Hamza gets in every squad in the championship, can play ok in a few positions. Played every game for shef Utd mostly are RB they love him solid as they come just like HS before his injury, but our fans don’t like him. There’s bigger problems than Hamza at our club ffs.

Don’t think Hamza is a problem if played at right back or in midfield, in fact he’s probably been better than Ricardo there this season. With the right system around them, I think him and Skipp could complement each other quite well at this level, but at present it doesn’t seem like Marti wants to move away from this system.

I just don't understand the immense hatred for Hamza a lot of people have. Yes he wasn't great, but he did put in a lot of tackles and blocks that Thomas wouldn't have. Every corner you could see him urging his teammates to keep focus. LB isnt his natural position but still did slightly better than Thomas, who's natural position it is, has done. Like the post a couple above mine, nitpicking, we could nitpicking about most of the players yesterday. Even Nelson, who some almost refer to as the Messiah, was partly at fault for their goal. (not saying i dont think Nelson is a massive improvement from what we had by the way)

His off field matters haven't helped his cause.

But on-field, yes he's great at blocking shots but I think it's fine to highlight his shortcomings. It's just a sad state of the club and players that a lot of them have a lot of weaknesses.

I agree but we all know that he has shortcomings but the hate towards him seems very over the top and not in line with the abuse that some others have. Agreed his off the field antics haven't helped, however it's stupid childish stuff that he does. Clearly he loves the club and is happy to be here unlike some.

He’s lazy. Extremely lazy. He just strolls around. Just watch him doing it on the highlights. That’s why people don’t like him.

I noticed that at the time.   Reminded me of myself ... daydreaming during a match, thinking about the forthcoming night out!

Ironically, it's probably fueled by this kind of ignorance (don't mean than in an offensive way, just can't think of a better word!). The amount of off the field incidents, multiple games we've lost where he's been laughing and joking with the opposition, the fact he's never been good enough for us and that he's always been on a huge wedge vs his ability, and reasons why. You've then got people who blindly defend him no matter what.

Thomas has been an abomination, and yes Hamza was played in an unfamiliar role, but his performance was extremely poor. Hypocrisy for him to be calling for focus from his teammates when he had multiple brainfades last night, lucky that a couple didn't lead to goals. Even for there goal, whilst it certainly wasn't his fault, looks at his positioning compared to the defensive line. Unfortunately that happened multiple times.

He should be decent at this level but unfortunately he's symbolical of a lot of this club's failings in recent years.

Looked like he got turned inside out and didn’t know his arse from his elbow on quite a few occasions last night

He was playing LB not really surprising, the squad has no depth what so ever but let's keep blaming it all on the manager, while he hasn't been great what he's had to work with is the bare minimum

Hamza would be one of those Youtube sensations with some amazing clips of his ability (Goal v Huddersfield, that run back and tackle v Liverpool and things like the clearances below), however he always seems like being like one of those players who goes through the motions and doesn't put it all in.He could have been so much better if he put the effort in. Maybe he was on these players that is a family man who is married with 3 kids and just goes through the motions?! Against WBA he put some decent blocks in playing our of position but in parts, he really looked like he couldnt muster any energy like some weedhead.

I`d personally move him on and get some cash in.
