Very good news! Loan to League One in January please, maybe let him get some minutes vs Millwall depending on who the loan club is lined up to be.

Don’t repeat what happened to Sammy Braybrooke though.. didn’t he sign a deal, have a loan lined up, and then did his ACL?

Great news, but he’s 20 in a few months and seriously needs to be getting pitch time here or elsewhere. Given how we’re currently set at the back I’d suggest that’s elsewhere on loan but if Souttar went in Jan he could step into his squad place.

McAteer is 22 and has only just broken into our squad after a fairly average loan spell in League 2. Players develop at different times and rates. It's very, very rare that teenagers break into Premier League/Championship squads.

Don't think that's quite so old for a defender though, plenty of time for him to develop.

This is one young player that’s had quite a bit of hype. about him for quite a while now and I just don’t get it.With Alves I get as he’s exciting  to watch and  very skilled with the ball . With Braybrooke I get as his footballing brain and passing is brilliant for someone his age . Nelson looks from what I’ve seen nothing more than just  good defender for his age  nothing more nothing less .

How far is he off the first team? I am a bit surprised he's not featured at all, not even on the bench, given we are in the Championship.

It'll be a while until he's

Perhaps that's the strength. Defenders generally tend to come into their prime a little later as experience is more telling in that third of the pitch.

A winger, for example, can lose the ball ten times in a loss without it being an issue. A defender can make a single mistake and it cost the game. There's less room for error.

Perhaps being good at that age is three strength.

He's the same age as Doyle. I'd like to think we've got a half decent shot at signing Doyle permanently, Brunt and him could be a fantastic long term partnership for us.

Rumour here was that a sale for doyle was agreed in principal but not doable at the time, in time...or some such issue. So we just took him on loan to make sure we got him in the squad.

I'm sure someone knows this better than me.
