I appreciate there's a level of meme in your post but I'll bite anyway. £5.5m in 2000 is not £9.8m now if we're talking purely in the language of transfer fees. Real world inflation doesn't vaguely match the behaviour of transfer fees over the last twenty years.

As for stats, Akinbiyi played 48.3 lots of 90 for us, starting 33 of of the 37 games he played in in his debut season, managing 14 goal contributions (11G, 3A) for a return of 0.29 per game.

Daka has played 43.3 lots of 90, never getting more than 15 starts in a season and having to contend with being dropped in and out of the team often (under Rodgers) essentially at random. Despite this he's still managed 29 goal contributions (17G, 12A) for a return of one every 0.67 games.

If you want to make it Premier League only, Daka has played 31.2 90s with 10 goals and 7 assists for a combined 17, averaging 0.54 per game.

akinbyi was miles better than Daka. Useless , but still miles better

He hasn't improved under anybody full stop ... I thought he was supposed to be Vardy like... can't see it myself ... he is supposed to be fast .... greyhounds are fast but you don't see many playing football

The point I was making albeit not very well was if he can't improve under one of the best strikers in PL history he's unlikely to improve anymore

Mark de Vries was another turkey but I still fondly remember his goals (I think there were two) in the f.a. cup win over Spurs

Just the one. How can you forget the equally illustrious Stephen Hughes and Elvis Hammond.

I think Akinbyi might have netted 9 or 10 goals in Taylors 1st season. He was lucky that had a strong midfield behind him. It was only up to around Christmas that year that the dismantling of the quality started and we know the rest is history.

Daka obviously not good enough but not helped that doesn't play half as much as Ade did and the players behind him are Fuching shite.

Daka seemed a really exciting signing and I think he has clearly stagnated and his career stalled here. I honestly believe he is the right player, wrong time, he had  undoubted potential but the truth is Vardy hanging around as long as he has done has not helped Daka, who has had to contend with playing 2nd fiddle.

He showed in the game against Moscow how devastating he can be and at that point he was primed and ready to step up and play a prominent role for us and that could and should have been the catalyst for the changing of the guard.

However such is Vardy’s position and role at the club, Daka was shunted back to a bit part role and as a consequence his levels have dropped massively and he looks a shadow of the player we signed from RB Salzburg.

Daka is a very particular player. He’s the type of player who will only flourish if he plays in a side that creates loads of quality chances. He isn’t the type to generate his own chances. He’s an extremely limited footballer, so he’s bound to struggle in our team.

The signing made no sense at the time, as Rodgers liked his strikers to be able to play, and that isn’t Daka’s game. Gradually his confidence has diminished to the point of he doesn’t even look like a professional footballer, because he’s being asked to do everything he can’t do.

Replacing Lennon, Parker, Taylor with Matt Jones, Lee Marshall and Junior Lewis is Rudkin-esque. Daka is a Taylor/Martin Allen kind of signing but I do agree the service into him is poor whereas Ade had Muzzy aswell as those mentioned above.

Further proof our club is badly run.......Apparently his work permit has run out hence his omission from his International side.  Alledgedly, he has to stay in the UK in order to get it sorted.

You, seriously can't make this shite up....................

Not wanting to defend the club, or know the process for this sort of thing, but surely Daka himself has a part to play in ensuring his work permit remains in date.

Surely the club will sell next window? I had high hopes when he signed but he has never produced.

he'll leave on a free like 90 percent of the others in this squad

Nice work. Whether he’s statistically worse then Akinbiyi based on the relative fee etc to some extent is immaterial - both cost a lot of money and both are utter shite.

Who will pay money and get anywhere near matching his wage? Time and time again this has happened and it is reflective of such poor strategy and decision-making.

True to say that salary expenditure correlates to performance and league finish (generally and with the odd outlier), but of course you can’t pay donkeys a healthy wage and expect to perform. It’s like we’ve just gone out and given stupid contracts blindly thinking it will equate to a high level of performance.

They've both been very poor pieces of business but Akinbiyi was, even now, pound for pound one of our worst ever purchases.

Both Akinbiyi and Daka cost similar percentages of our spending power at the time they were signed. But Akinbiyi was a replacement for our then star striker who was played week in, week out. He was a League One standard forward that we threw enormous financial weight at because we'd replaced our then GOAT manager with a chump out of his depth.

Daka was an intelligent piece of business with a great track record that was wanted bt half of Europe. He came from a club with one of the best scouting networks in world football where he'd scored for fun.

He came in to a team that was spiralling downwards, a squad with zero morale where he was horrendously mismanaged and - ultimately - not particularly needed because our greatest ever striker was still relentlessly tucking away goals.

I wouldn't compare their signings at all.

Probably the closest in terms of context, outlay and return to Akinbiyi in the modern era would be the purchase of Ayoze Perez and even that would be a bit harsh to Perez.

Edit: scratch Perez, Islam Slimani even better example.
