Things i miss about us being 'good'

A bit of fun. I've had the 'pleasure' of spending the evening with some Liverpool fans who think the world has collapsed around them, and it cheered me up no end!. Out of Europe and lost their way in the Premier League, they think they have bottled everything and this is another disaster of a season. Beautiful.  

 

But it made me think about how smug we were a short time ago. So here is the list if things i missed about our smug period of being on top of the Championship:

 

  • After 10 games only letting in 6 goals, and thinking we will only let in about 20 goals all season.
  • Our biggest problem being that we hadn't yet 'smashed a team', and that winning every week had become boring.
  • Foxestalk posters asking 'has there ever been a season where a team has never lost a game'.
  • Smugly watching Southampton and Leeds mess up the start of the season, and thinking they will both be lucky to finish in the playoffs.
  • Wondering why a team as sh1t as Ipswich were 2nd in the table, and laughing that they would fall away any day soon..........
  • Being so confident, that i couldn't even be arsed to pay attention to HMS Pi55 the league posts, because i thought we would f*** the Championship a new asshole and break every record that ever stood.
  • Thinking we had a manager so 'in demand', that Brighton, Liverpool or Man U would steal him at the earliest opportunity and we would have to 'make do' with Mowbray for the rest of the season.
  • Finding out a fan behind me was going on holiday in December, and me joking that we would be 'promoted by the time they come back'.
  • Thinking the most stressful thing i had to do was 'trust the process'.
  • Actually enjoying our managers press conferences, before he started talking about 'musckel problems' and that the shite performances were 'goooodee'.
  • Missing that i was proud of my team for a while, before the FFP reality and horrible form kicked in. 

 

I am sure there are loads more. How typical of Leicester City that we turn an amazing season into the nail biter it has become. 

 

Night night foxes fans.....

There was a swagger. With hindsight, some might now call it utterly hubristic, but that level of confidence is now gone.

If we scored first with a great team goal in any of our upcoming games, the knowledge that we might try and sit on a 1-0 lead for the rest of the game and only end up conceding, in addition to the gnawing dread of having chucked away a massive lead at the top of the table, would probably suck all of the swagger right out of us.

I still recall a fellow worker telling me one Monday morning :

'We've already won this league & we've only played 11 games, too easy !'

Should have hept his powder dry !

Coaching out a swagger and intent in a team took Brendan four seasons give or take. Remarkable, really.

 

But if you challenged it at the time you had 100s of Dr Footballs crying about 'inversion' and 'the process' and goodness me where are they now.

Getting to 60+mins are feeling supremely confident that we would either find a winner or hold onto our current lead, such was the strength of our record in the final 30 mins of matches...

Counting how many passes we made in one movement leading to a goal, now we can't string 3 passes together and don't know where the goal is.

I miss the feeling, and it was the same feeling in 2015/16, that if/when we conceded it wasn't a problem.

 

A calm feeling that the quality and mentality of the side will win out, no worries. 

 

These days a goal goes in and you have absolutely no confidence that the result is going in our favour.

Telling people that the championship is actually a really enjoyable league and if we weren’t smashing the life out of it then I wouldn’t mind another season in it. 
 

Oh Christ the thought of another season in it.

What I miss about us being good (and talking a bit further back than this season)..

.. being comfortable with big teams swooping in to buy players, as we'd make sure they pay top dollar.   No longer the case :(

Swagger and hubris is good in sports. Very few humble sporting champions.

 

We were mostly of the belief that Enzo had brought this back to the team after Lord Beelzebub had sucked us dry.

 

Now I see posts accusing Enzo of doing that too. There's one in this thread.

 

What I wouldn't give for some hubris.

Problem is I hate the championship now we've had a taste of success in the top flight.....but I hate the prem as its just the big six and everyone else is there to make up the number's ....conflicted 🤣🤣🤣🤣
