Want to change your name to Homer Junior?” : r/TheSimpsons

I'd just end up calling him Junior but specifically only in this voice:

Great to see he's properly assessing them. That's Golding, Alves, Cartwright, Joseph and Monga all being part of training this week and have a shot at making the squad.

How does Cartwright compare to Baybrooke?

Think Evans has more of a chance then King

isn't Evans more of a winger and King a striker?

That’s what makes him even better a winger that can play up front, so has the pace/dribbling and the finishing to match

He's saying so many of the right things. He doesn't even need to after the first two games, either.

Having a good crop of young players is really exciting, so seeing them potentially get opportunities is brilliant.

Pragmatically speaking, it also puts them in the shop window. If they do OK, there will be interest in them, either to go on loan to help them develop or for a permanent transfer that boosts our ability to recruit.

In a perfect world, there might be a few PL quality players in there who will stay and give us great options as we challenge again.

In style? They're different, Cartwright is far more combative than Braybrooke. Id say Braybrooke is more of a Winks player and Cartwright a destroyer who has some technical ability too.

From what I've seen of both, Braybrooke was massively clear of him but I maybe wrong.

shame for Sammy he's gone on that pointless loan this would have been a chance for him

Sammy should never have been loaned out this season but unfortunately for us we had a manager so far out of his depth it was unreal and he ostracised the young lads in pre-season. A full season of being in and around the first team squad was there for him, disappointing to say the least.

If hes not good enough to get a game for Dundee then he isnt good enough to be in and around a Premier league first team

I think and hope there's a bit more to it than that.

Like what? Hes no doubt got talent but hes still built like a little boy. He needs to seriously hit the weights if he wants to make it in mens football. Will get bullied off the ball in a league as physical as the SPL

That’s exactly why he shouldn’t have gone on loan. He’s built to play Premier League football, the protection from referee’s in this league nullifies physicality. I was on record saying we should have treated him like Phil Foden and he would eventually get his chance to shine, if Cartwright plays this weekend he has the opportunity to put himself ahead of Sammy here despite being an inferior player up to this point.

To be fair McAteer didn't do much in League Two and within 18 months is starting games in the Prem after a full season in the Championship too. Whilst there's doubts he's at this level, some loan moves don't work out but Braybrooke needs to play football and I think he can deal with lower league football.

Cartwright is no better than Lewis Brunt was, he'll do well to make it at league one level like he has. It's about time we promoted talent rather than physicality.

You mean like Kasey and Luke? 😂😂😂

The loan system works, it always has! Very few players are ready to jump straight in at a top level, even less with the pressure of a relegation fight.

Let them learn and develop properly. it’s proven to be the best for development. unfortunately for Sammy it’s not worked out for him at Dundee but he 100% needed to go out on loan!

Harvey Barnes would have been sold in his first summer as a pro if we’d played him instead of sending him out because he would have looked like dog muck.

McAteer's attitude on the pitch is great. I haven't seen Premier League ability.

One thing recently that has surprised me about Mcateer is his obscene pace.

He was beating everyone he was in on a foot race with and pace is something you've either got or haven't got.

I think Mcateer hasn't reached his ceiling yet.

It's quite possible he can develop to the standard required, he gets in good positions too. Hopefully there's an important goal coming from him soon like last season.

Prior to RVN, I'd almost resigned myself to thinking that (almost) all the promising youngsters are just going to either fizzle out here or get poached away and we'd fail to capitalise on what seems to be a very highly rated crop of youngsters.

He's only been here just over a week and already he's been having regular conversations with the youth coaches, properly assessing them in senior training, and even explicitly name-checking some like JJJr/Cartwright in the press. That's extremely promising that they'll be well looked after, and even if they don't get minutes straight away then training under a former player of his calibre and genuinely getting consideration will surely be a huge confidence boost for them. Not to mention the ones out on loan who could well push on and step up -  Nelson in particular could save us a good chunk of cash in an important position, then you've got Braybrooke, Wanya, Silko...

They probably won't all make it, but at least it feels like we're going to give them the best chance of success. If RVN can shift the club in that direction, then he's already having a positive impact.

Youth Cup tonight against Chelsea, was going to go but took tickets off sale so assume it's sold out.

Hopefully we can progress and have a few games at the KP.
