If Southampton win tonight and we are in the bottom 3 maybe that will finally be the trigger that the board needs to release Cooper from his contract...

So I'd had a quick dig into the xG data after the first 4 games and it looked terrible - adding in an update here.

So the stats look generally pretty awful. We now sit comfortably bottom of the table for xPoints [understat]. Individually the players have managed to convert well from the shots we have taken (highest np:G-xG in the division [fbRef]) and save well from shots against us (Mads has the highest PSxG-GA [fbref]), but we're consistently outperformed on xG in each game. It's a small sample but there is remarkable consistency across all of our games, suggesting a pattern.

I'd suggest the Arsenal game has skewed this somewhat, and actually the game state there will have meant they've racked up more xG than they otherwise would have, particularly with PSG tomorrow - but we were comfortably being outplayed before the equaliser so at best I'd say we're conceding as many good chances as Ipswich are.

The game state stats are interesting. When games are level we are absolutely awful (xGD of -7.53, probably skewed by Arsenal but Ipswich are -3.4, Southampton are -2.28), and we're negative on xGD for all game states apart from the 12 minutes we've been 2-0 down against Villa and Arsenal. There is a bit of noise in this still but it does validate the theory that we're a better side when we have a go. It feels like the shackles are being kept on a little.

I've advocated for more time for Cooper but with the stats looking the way we do and a shocking performance in the cup I'd probably reduce the timeframe I'm willing to allow him. I think Bournemouth is a good fixture and one he has to win and probably perform well in to keep his job.

Might do a bit of a dig into some of our relegation rivals too as we're starting to see a bit more of a reliable picture now.

Only 7 teams in the league have scored more than us. Top 5 plus Spurs and Brighton.

Yep, due to some excellent finishing.

Think the only way this had a remote chance of happening this week is if we'd have lost 6 or 7 nil to Arsenal. Unfortunately the result at the Emirates was respectable, even if the performance wasn't.

I think our PPG will have to get worse before we sack him. So I think we could genuinely be around Christmas with 7 or 8 points for them to do anything.

Not sure our PPG can get much worse within reason.

Good news

We are officially scoring way above expectation based on chances. So when this inevitably stops we are in deep shit.

4.31 expected goals is absolutely pathetic - miles adrift of even Southampton

All this talk reminds me of the Micky Adam’s side that could score, but also couldn’t keep them out - and conceded a lot of late goals

This is basically the same side that got relegated under Rogers.

Minus Maddison,Barnes,KDH and

Jonny sicknote Evans.

Also minus Natcho and Daks injured.

Also Vardy 2+ years older.

We are doing well to be competing in games.Think the problem lies deeper than the Manager.Any candidate thinking of his reputation would not touch us with a long barge pole.

Scoring is the only plus we have at the minute so I'm using it.

This is bollocks.

Last season proves this team can be unified and all come together singing from the same hymn sheet. This squad is better than that team that got relegated in my opinion, it’s got a better balance to it. Our issue lay with the manager, he’s unable to get a grip on the side, and it just clearly isn’t working. This idea that there’s some deeply routed problem was out to bed last season, yes the board has made mistakes, but that’s what they are. Enzo has proven this squad is capable of being moulded with clear and concise leadership, Cooper seems to be incapable of achieving either with us.

So you've mentioned Maddison, Barnes, KDH, Evans, Nacho, Daka, not forgetting Soyuncu, Castagne and Armarty. So really it's not the same side.

Do we generally or do teams in general put a clause in manager’s contract to say if we drop into bottom 3 after X amount of games we can sack you for X amount of compensation??

Christ the redeemer that’s absolutely pathetic when we’ve played Palace, Fulham, Everton and even home games against Spurs and Villa.

It’s like when you’re a kid and highlighters are fun and then later in life you realise they are just sh1t pens taking up too much space that smudge everything and just give the illusion of being productive ( them and you ). Once the allure of the fancy colour wears off, you see what’s really there. Or what’s really not there.

The PL don't dish out the points deduction. It's an independent commission don't forget.

But backs will be scratched because it's us.
