We've not had captains only before, I think that was used for the first time at the Euros last year? 

 

Apparently surrounding the ref isn't dealt with by the ref, it's reported post game and the FA hand put hefty fines which just seems daft, why not make a stand there and then, man city, Liverpool who are repeat offenders would surely be more compromised by yellow cards than a fine.

Just read that Youri is been linked to Saudi... not a player that strikes he jumps for the money. I mean he turned Man Utd down for us. What gets frustrating is that he left us for nowt... yet its said he could leave Villa for £60million 🤢

You can't really blame Rudkin for that if a player doesn't renew and sees out his contract, which many are doing you're stuck with them.

 

Or you could still blame Rudkin

If a player, especially a valuable asset, doesn't want to renew, then he needs to be sold.  I'm sure we could have got takers for Youri after 21/22 that would have suited both player and club. 

 

Allowing so many players to run down contracts and leave for nothing is rank incompetence, only surpassed by putting average players on massive contracts so that we can't get rid of them.

 

You get the worst of both worlds with Rudders.

Youri’s intentions were clear when he only signed a four year deal.  Sell me after year 2 or I’ll likely see out my four years and go on a free. his price end year 2 was at a high end year 2 after the fa cup win - but how many on here would have agreed to sell him at that point ??.

I think the club should have said new contract or for sale, maybe when we were that successful it was harder to lose your best assets but in hindsight much needed.

You can’t sell if they don’t want to go. Yuri obviously didn’t want to as it was in his best interest to leave on a free

I think that we were well used to selling assets and many of us understood the model. It was when Rodgers changed that model that we had problems.

Of course we can't sell those that don't want to go, but surely, when it became apparent that Youri was going to run down his contract we could have found suitors that would have been attractive to the player.  At that time, pre relegation, I think there might have been interest from better clubs than Villa.  

 

Those that don't want to go are usually those that we want to shift but are not daft enough to turn their backs on a Rudkin golden contract that they wouldn't get close to elsewhere.
