Yeah, I do agree. When we were first linked with him I said I thought he was a top-end championship player. £25m when funds are limited was pretty terrible business. Again.

I like him but 25m was a joke. Same as spunking 5m on a little boy for the u/23s. And 10m on Cannon last year

These people - Rudkin etc - wouldn't last 5 mins in the business world.

Unless their boss was their friend and he'd rather the business go to shit than deal with them

I'm convinced that there was some other financial motive with us and Spurs following Maddison deal that triggered this signing.

It was weird at the time and it doesn't seem to be any different from what was expected.

40 million on Skipp, Cannon and a youth guy whose name I can't even remember.

If we're spending 25M on a player, he not only has to be a starter, but one of the best players in our team. To spend that amount on a  4th choice CM is scandalous. It's no surprise, Levy vs Rudkin, there's only going to be one winner.

This

I'm convinced our numerous deals with Spurs (Winks, Maddison & Skipp) and Chelsea (KDH, Maresca and Goulding) can't be looked at as individual deals and are part of a bigger picture regarding PSR for all clubs concerned.

Whilst I think he was a terrible piece of business, he could still get have a big part to play.

If we lose wilf for a significant amount of time he needs to step up and fill that void.

I won’t judge him until he’s in a functional team because saturdays was far from it.

I couldn’t believe we were doing that at the time. He always looked an average player to me.

He's up there alongside Slimani and Perez as our worst ever signings.

I don't mean that as in worst ever players but the signing in context. What he cost us both literally in cash but also the opportunity to sign one or maybe even two decent forwards or a forward and a defender? When we didn't need or really want him.

Neither manager has been interested in him. He's behind Soumare ffs.

He's a run of the mill midfielder, of which we have plenty.

We needed someone who could be a game changer & goalscorer from midfield & he's certainly neither of those.

Ridiculous signing, along with Okoli, Ayew, Reid.

Our recruitment really is a complete joke

Too early to judge yet in my opinion

Depends what you mean, exactly.

Judging him as a footballer on the whole, particularly given he is still young enough to develop? Sure, he could still grow in to a solid Premier League midfielder.

Judging him as a signing within the context of the season? It was fair to judge him in that sense before he'd even kicked a ball and nobody who did has been proven wrong. In that case it was never much about how good he could be, it was about what he offers right now vs. the outlay and what else we could have done with the money.

The squad has holes everywhere yet we spent the most money on a player we didn't really need. A lot of it too.

Take the point, and I was speaking more holistically. Is he what we really needed? No probably not, and he shows no sign of being more than yet another DM, but as I say, not convinced we have seen enough yet to write him off totally.

Strongly suspect the funding of this purchase was directly linked to the funds still owed to us by Spurs for Maddison.

Way too early to judge him.

Hes a hardworking midfielder and with Wilfs legs not what they were he was a sound purchase but yeah definitely should’ve been between 12m-15m.

Think he will be a regular in the new year. He’s shown glimpses. The pass for the first goal vs Brighton most recently. However, he isn’t worth what we paid and he isn’t really enough of an upgrade on what we have to justify spending the money on that position. Overall it’s not great business.

I think we needed a good CM. We have seen recently how short we are in that area. He's not worked out so far for us though. I'm willing to give him more time before writing off.

Ayew and Reid are both been decent squad players for little outlay.. No problem really with Okoli either. A young Italian international CB. He could well come good.

I'm going to try and be positive here. He's 24, only a year older than McAteer. 25m does seem like a ridiculous amount of money to have paid for him. No doubt having been capped at every England youth level, and played 24 times for the under 21s, helped Levy, who doesn't need any help, pull our pants down on the price. That's a lot of money, especially for someone who offers very little creativity. He's still young, so hopefully, he will become a decent premier league player like his England youth appearances suggest, but he's shown nothing so far.
