I read an interview with one of his coaches where he started out. He said that he'll go on a bigger club after us (they always say that when we get a good one)!  I think we'd struggle to keep him in the championship as he'd be far too good. Dare I say it, but technically he's the best player we've had since Mahrez IMO.

Tielemans and Maddison are better players technically

Wouldn’t be surprised if someone takes a chance on him in the summer. But if he stays and has a good first half of the season then I’ll be very surprised if someone doesn’t pick him up in January.

think the only way that happens is if we get 35mil+, unless he has a release clause

id be surprised if someone did pay that

No one is paying that, of course. But we also don’t know if he’s prepared to play in the championship. If not, agent will get it out there and we’d lose him for what we paid.

Based on his behaviour when he joined us, he'll look to force a move if a PL club comes in for him, even if the fee is below what we want.

Good point, and people will be extremely upset about it even though it's a good reason he came here in the first place :)

To be fair, he had already played almost 100 games for them before he joined us and had been there since 2019, so wasn't like he just jumped shipped straight away.

Im sure it will be down to who the manager is and who influences and convinces him a season in the championship would be good for his development.

If he's playing a key role in a promotion push he's not getting sold in January.

The one sort of upside to PSR is in a situation like this it means we can’t sell for him cheaply.

I have a hunch he plays next season, worst case is he gets loaned out.

That's very likely and actually potentially awful though isn't it.

We get nothing we can spend on reinforcements, he doesn't play for us, the loan fee almost certainly doesn't cover his amortisation for the year and they probably don't pay his full wages.

We end up part paying for a player who isn't invested enough to get us out of the muck.

They also had each other to grow and improve with as well as peak Vardy and Barnes.

Given that there would be zero benefit to us in loaning him out (for all the reasons you describe), what makes you think it's 'very likely' to happen?

He's only 20, so if we are in the Championship one season i think he might take it as long as he is front and center of the rebuild. I think one season wouldn't hurt him getting picked for Morocco either.

Because it might be the only way of keeping him for now and getting a better fee for him in a future season.

He's under contract with us. If we don't want to sell him on the cheap or loan him out, we don't have to. His agent may agitate for a loan move, but that doesn't compel us to accept one that doesn't benefit us.

Unless he has a relegation clause in his contract that means we have to loan him out as long as his wages are covered (like Leeds did with quite a few of their players) I just don’t see us doing it

Being a world cup year as well probably plays into his mind. Lets be honest, he'd be stupid not to try and get out if he can but I'm sure if he ends up staying he'll put the effort in.

Possibly. Countries like Morocco are going to be different to England though and will play players who aren’t not necessarily in the top division as they don’t have as many options. The 2nd tier in England is still well within the top 10 leagues in the world.

With England, we select often based on reputation so if a player is relegated with their club, they will instantly be cast aside.

He can probably get some sort of reassurance from his national coach anyway. I suspect they are a lot concerned with their players sitting around taking money without playing like Vestergaard often has.

I'd be shocked if he doesn't play for us next year. Relatively it's still a good level, he'll be 21 next season. If he can really excel next season then it does his reputation the world of good. It shouldn't be a tremendously hard sell unless him and his agent have ideas massively above their station. In which case it makes our decision easy because you don't want someone like that around anyway.

Pearson would be exactly the type of player that would absolutely thrive under a manager like Pearson. Would love to have another good overall manager that can help improve the club in multiple facets next season Rather than focusing on yet another one of the cookie cutter coaches that have all been told that pep ball is the only way to play football.
