Mixed feelings on this. I'd love Bilal to stay and rip-up the Championship, but if we're going to be a well-run club again, then we probably need to go back to our model of selling an asset each summer.

That said, if we can somehow get rid of the (piles of) deadwood, and save some serious wages - it would be great to keep him.

In terms of this as a stand alone thing though, this could be Hermansen with any luck.

Obviously in the past, the one asset thing was enough but potentially we would need to sell both as we did with Maddison and Barnes given the loss of revenue.

It was obvious when we first saw him that he has the skill but personally I doubted whether he would be able to handle the physicality of the English game or have the drive to give 100% when the going got tough.  I think it’s fair to say he has proved me wrong on both counts.

He is under contract so if the club does not want to sell then he stays, it is a simple as that.  We paid just over £20 million iirc so any offer would have to be north of that to be even worth considering either from a balance sheet or PSR point of view.  Having said that we need him to want to stay and that will depend on having the right person at the top, RVN has shown that he rates him but anyone new coming in would need to convince him that he is integral to the system next year.

Sell Winks, Ndidi, Soumare, Faes & Mads then I think we can keep Bilal will need a player like him next season, can't see anyone paying the money we would want.

Even if we got 5m each for Nididi, Soumare, Faes and Winks then 20m for Mads, clears aload of the wage bill as well, and we would still have 40m to spend

He’s the only player we have that will generate a decent fee. So unfortunately we’ve no choice but to sell him.

His book value means we’d need to be offered £35-40m to make it worthwhile. Do you see anybody offering that?

No I don’t. Does he have a release clause though? If not I think with the sales of Mads and some of the shite, we may free up enough space to be able to keep him, and further invest!

I feel 10x more confident of us going back up if he stayed.

I fully expect him to have a release clause though, and probably poorly negotiated on our part.

Depends if we need to sell anyone before the end of June to negate a potential PSR breach. Imagine having to sell BEK or Nelson to cover the shortfall generated by overspending on signing duffers like BDCR, Ayew, Skipp and Eduaord. And still not generating any funds to reinvest, but we were in league one once and be careful what you wish for blah blah blah …….

Sure Mads is being wrapped up for that.

There will undoubtedly be interest. And I think it's a given that he'll want to be playing top-flight football somewhere next season.

Similar vibes to Fofana, in the sense that he believes strongly in his own ability, and that he seems to be in a rush to get to the top.

Level above most of the squad, but not sure he has shown enough for a Premier League club to offer as much as it should take to get him.

If he rips the Championship up, and gets some figures against his name, he'll be hard to keep hold of, regardless of if we get promoted ourselves.

Was selling an asset every year actually a model?  Or just purely circumstantial?

It was definitely circumstantial. The only times the club have sold key players are because the player forced their way out (Fofana, Mahrez), the buying club paid over odds (Chilwell, Maguire) or because we were forced to because of FFP (Barnes, Maddison, Dewsbury Hall).

The club has never had the mentality of buying low and selling high, every decision the club makes is only with the short term in mind.

Sorry for the ignorance, I thought we were going to lose the last massive loss (90 million) off our accounts for next year? Is that the case and do we still need to sell still in the same way we have before? (Sorry for the ignorance)

If I am honest we seem to get a very high number if youth players who make the grade at championship and prem level,

Bassey

Nyoni

Schlupp

Chillwell

Barnes

MacAteer

Dusbury-Hall

Thomas

Nelson

Monga

Alves

Stolarczyk

Etc,

I would really like us to focus our approach moving forward on being a real pipeline for the best young talent and for bringing through the best young talent from abroad (Like Bilal). At least it feels like we would have an identity again, currently we just seem to be scatter-gun.

Obviously if there’s any chance we can afford to keep him next season we 100% should. We saw last season we’ll face a lot of low blocks so having someone with a bit of guile will be crucial in turning tight games. However I suspect player preference will be the trump card here and there’s close to no chance he’ll be here!
