I don't think the Beeb would put Alex Scott on the main MoTD. Sadly think they would see it as risky, especially if press reports are to be believed that Football Focus is struggling and likely to be axed.

I could see her taking on MoTD2 mind.

Football Focus is dire these days. Not sure what the cause is. Alex Scott already does other stuff like The One Show and the  Women's game.

Can’t stand Jason Mohammed. A bit too hyper on final score.

You are of course entitled to your opinion. I find he copes great with all the info coming in from around the matches

He was brilliant in his time as a presenter but not able to involve himself in the conversation. Lineker’s strength is he was a world class striker in the men’s game who also has become a very slick presenter. The other names you mention don’t have that gravitas so will be a downgrade irrespective of their presenting ability. If we are being honest, what many of them do have is the power of not being a white middle aged man and that is ultimately a strength in a area of tv entertainment that is trying to hit certain targets and attract new audiences.

I fully understand what you’re saying and they’re all very fair points. MOTD will be at a huge loss with the loss of Lineker and Ian Wright, I just don’t think it’ll be the end of the world if there’s a new presenter that’s not played the game, as long as they can front a programme well enough.

The fact that he's staying on to do FA Cup and the World Cup suggests to me the BBC have a big idea for MOTD next season. Perhaps more than just a presenter change?

I don't think it's been mentioned here but as part of the new contract, his The Rest Is Football podcast will move to BBC Sounds.

Signs a new deal. Doesn't have to do MoTD anymore apart from the FA Cup and World Cup. Flogs his podcast to the beeb.

Sounds to me like he's just got more wedge for less work. Fair play.

This is what I find the weirdest thing. The BBC must be spending a fortune on bringing that in almost completely unnecessarily. It's like taking a well established ITV show and paying loads to get it on the BBC.

I think it's a huge shame. Feels like the twats at the Mail and Telegraph have won and got what they wanted. A football presenter not being allowed to give political views outside of anything related to the BBC. So much for free speech eh. Never moaned about Andrew Neil for all those years. Pathetic.

I suppose it depends whether the podcast deal is exclusive or not. If it's an exclusivity deal then yes it would've cost the BBC an awful lot - more than I suspect they can afford, since the Rest Is Football would have to forego ad support if only hosted on BBC platforms and that income would have to be made up for with the deal.

I rather suspect it's just a hosting agreement though since Goalhanger are making a fortune from being on commercial platforms. I wonder whether they have also taken on responsibility of producing the MoTD Top 10 podcasts too, since it's the same lineup. Would make sense: Less production cost for the BBC to produce content, The Rest is Football get more reach. Win win.

It's exactly this, it was just worded in the release to sound better than it is.

Essentially the RIF is extending its reach to be on BBC sounds as well as spotify and apple.

MOTD Top 10 I believe has always been produced by goalhanger as it's in Garys home and his son is the producer.

I stopped watching MOTD because it was boring. There's only so many times you can listen to Alan Shearer say "he did magnificent" before you lose interest.

I record it Saturday night and then watch it Sunday morning. Always preferred to do that and then skip through the analysis.

I like linekers presenting style and dad jokes i have to admit.  And its nice as a Leicester fan to see us being "shouted out" by lineker on a regular basis .

For me though, and some will disagree, im not a fan of the analysis.  Its over analysed in minute detail.  I find it boring .

For me, a revamp showing more of the games and less slobber from ex players would be very welcome.

Plus alex scott..she doesn't have to say anything.......seriously.....im happy just looking 😂

The world needs to chill a little bit and we could re-hash 1996 - 1999 Soccer AM.

A quarter of the country would want to cancel it, however a live “edgy” show in that format would appeal to certain people.

Maybe not the the BBC.

I’d love to watch the Meltdown though :D

Jeff Stelling is nearly 70, I can't see him being offered the gig long term.

Mark Champan is the obvious replacement IMO
