Anyone got any examples of players who came back anywhere near their original level after ACL surgery?

Shearer, Del Piero, Van Nistelrooy, Keane, Xavi, Totti, Ibrahimovic etc

Some adapted lost injury game and played differently,

Having done the injury twice myself, I’d say it’s easier for a Shearer and RVN to recover  and not impact their game, compared to Fatawu. They aren’t twisting and turning at speed to beat players.

He was still growing as a player, so it’ll take time.

None of those being particular quick or explosive, it is worrying

Goal should be to get him back to fitness, hopefully have an injury free season next year (which is difficult after these injuries typically) hope he has a good season and sell him hopefully for a profit.

only have to look at ricardo, fofana and Justin to see it’s gonna be a problem

Was this a training ground injury? Can't remember him going off in a game?

Yeah his wages will be covered for pretty much the whole time he is out

He’s far ahead If where I suspected he’d be when it first happened.

I was told he was undertaking rehabilitation sessions up to three times per day and focussing on getting himself back to fitness.

Compare that to the average person that maybe sees someone once a week, then does recovery exercises at home.

At the rate he’s going, it isn’t out of the question we see him back in ball training this season. Which would be remarkable.

Injured late November, normally turnaround is six to nine months.

I guess it depends if they are confident in him not getting injured again, or just wait to re-integrate him next season.

Good to see him well on the road to recovery.

You can see quite clearly how different his leg looks to the other. Will take a lot of work to build that muscle and strength back and you can see exactly why its such a dreaded injury and whilst many never get back to the same level.

Quite standard after any break for the muscle you're not using to be a lot different in size.

Cases of successful recovery’s regarding form for explosive players are much smaller. Hopefully he’s an outlier but off the mark he won’t be as quick.

Thankfully he has a good right and left foot and can play. If he’s willing to put the work in to adapt his game after this he’ll be fine. Ronaldo had to completely change his game after his knee injury at 29, but did it successfully. Tough example but if he works hard he’ll do it
