It looks like his muscle condition and general condition is way ahead of normal recuperation, but the ACL reconstructiong graft will need the same amount of time as everyone else to grow back to full strength. during months 3 to 7 it's at its weakest and most prone to reinjury. So while he is doing great it would be super foolish to bring him back any time before next season.

you can see from his right leg balance work that his joint is still way way off being stable.

slowly slowly...

Yep spot on he wont be back this season so people don’t get excited, regardless of how well he looks or feels the graft will still need the standard time for revascularisation and it cannot and wont be rushed as its a standard biological healing process.

Good to see him well on the road to recovery.

You can see quite clearly how different his leg looks to the other. Will take a lot of work to build that muscle and strength back and you can see exactly why its such a dreaded injury and whilst many never get back to the same level.

:fc:

Muscle size returns pretty quickly if it's been there before. Once he can actually use weights it'll be 6-10 weeks to get the size back tops.

Anyone got any examples of players who came back anywhere near their original level after ACL surgery?

Robert Pires

Quite standard after any break for the muscle you're not using to be a lot different in size.

The worry is that Fatawu is an explosive player. Not many players like him retain that with this type of injury.

If you look through the list of players that regained world class form after an injury like this then it's players like Shearer, Van Nistelrooy, Xavi, Ibrahimovic, Van Dijk, Pires, Keane, Del Piero and Baggio. None of them are fast and direct wingers.

Not as explosive, but he's no slouch either: Florian Wirtz recovered in like 4 months or something absurd and just continued to get better. The guy's a mutant.

14th March to 4th December.

Almost identical to Ricardo's cruciate tear (11th March to 3rd December).

250-270 days seems about normal.

That would mean he'd be available for the beginning of August.

Not entirely sure that's true but don't watch any Bundesliga.

Transfermarkt had him out for 266 days (almost 9 months) which is standard for an ACL. - https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/florian-wirtz/verletzungen/spieler/598577

I’ve got an ACL injury where it has detached from the bone. I still move quicker than Ayew!  On a serious note ive never had an injury like this and it’s a miracle they can get back at all. I’ve been advised that they often let nature heal ahead of surgery in “normal people” which is where I am at now. Physio for a few months then a rescan

And have you recovered your explosive flair?

I ruptured my Achilles a couple of years ago.  They didn’t operate just put me in a cast for 3 weeks while it joined up again then 12 weeks rehab in an orthopaedic boot and 4 months of physio to rebuild strength.  If they had operated it would have taken away the need for the 3 weeks in a cast but outcomes this way are just as good apparently.  It amazes me that the tendon could reconnect itself in such a short period of time, especially as I am turned 60.
