You never know, Ruud might a tactical bombscare but he might work magic in the transfer window and do enough with that.  Gonna be an interesting time if nothing else.

Im desperate for us to do well under ruud and behind him 100%. Just can’t help wondering whether his profile is what we need at the minute, we need a manager that has experience of really tightening up a team. Hopefully ruud can do that as well as the attacking side.

I imagine they're all in today after that performance.

We likely won't see much change for a week or so

You'd imagine they'd have all been in regardless.  It's coming up to a busy part of the year with little time to instill his ideas.  Can't be having time off.

Hoping they do the generic pause and highlight every time a defensive mistake was made, it'll just be a faes/JJ highlights reel

I’m so skeptical of this and a huge gamble like this with decent ground still left to be made up just seems silly to me. But just give him the dosh we pretty much need a whole new defence

If he displays the right qualities, then he might not need loadsamoney to galvanise players who've lost their motivation. All the talk about, for example, Faes being a disaster belies the fact that he's not a disaster playing for Belgium. You can pick out individuals sine die, but ultimately, it's a team game.

I don't want to bring Clough into the issue, but he's the best example of a manager turning bad boys and players with unrealised potential or drop in form into a cohesive team - by force of personality. Pearson had that and it created what eventually happened in 2015-2016. Cooper couldn't energise the post-Maresca team. But Nistelrooy has got to reveal those qualities. Ruthlessness will be one and sensivity will be another. You treat each player according to his personality and perspective.

Money only solves problems if it's used wisely.

Hopefully they are at Seagrave now starting work on Tuesday night's match. Even if just light work and some tactical analysis of that woeful game yesterday. Hopefully Top has the P45's written out for the rest of the Cooper staff.

do we not remember the dumpling coverage from the last international break?

The squad is poor though with some gems who could shine in the right environment. Let's hope van Nistelrooy can work some magic. Whatever our reservations on the club's hierarchy and the attitude of some players, time to come together. Hopefully fans can also persuade Top and others to sort their act out, though not holding my breath sadly.

I am happy with the appointment and I really hope Ruud will do well for us.
But it got me thinking how many top managers used to be strikers (and not necessarily elite strikers before we go down that road again)? Most of the really successful ones have been defenders or midfielders.
I wonder if the selfishness needed to be a top striker doesn’t lend itself to management or the fact you’re seeing the game from the top end of the pitch and have less of a rounded view?

The only one I can think of that almost fits the bill is Mancini but he was more attacking midfielder. There’s probably loads and I’m just being thick!

RvN has now seen how horrendous we can be.  I'm glad that's happened early in his tenure as manager as he can now plan to reduce out problems through tactical changes and replacement of personnel.  He will need January to patch up the worst performing areas.  Things look bad right now but if he is a decent manager and gets the necessary resources we should improve.

Greatest manager of all - Clough - was a striker. Zidane didn't do too bad either.

Edit:  There is also Jurgen Klopp and John Toshack.

And the staff/coaches get rid.

Defence that can’t defend and midfielders that can’t pass 5 yards or run and relying on Vardy to get us out of trouble again. Ruud has a big job sorting this mess out and I don’t think much will change until he gets a player or 2 in jan. there is nothing he will be able to do to stop Justin and faes from being useless

It's gonna take time but the best teams build from the back. We have some utter dross defenders but we have to made do with them at least until January. He'll know he needs to sort out the structure first and foremost. He should also know after seeing us he can't play Soumare and Ndidi together. It's got to be one of them alongside either Skipp/Winks because we'll be absolutely hopeless and moving the ball otherwise. And lastly to be more of a threat. BEK needs to start playing more and Mavididi needs to play. They are the important things for me

We're fortunate that there have been 4 teams that have been worse than us so far and can't put points on the board and Ruud has an okay position to start from. Hopefully a boost and players attitude pick up and we'll see some improvements.

Whilst I really want Ruud to succeed I can't help but feel we are in Allardyce territory at the minute...in need of an experienced manager with a stomach for a relegation battle. Ruuds the manager you want when you're established in the league....just my feelings.

Well the good news is, according to Jonny Evans, Ruud is obsessed with defending. Let's hope he solves the conundrum, that is our right hand side.

We just tried that with Cooper

Good idea, but we have a game midweek so there isn't enough time
