Leicester City have been backed to land the “huge” signing of Brighton’s Evan Ferguson in the January transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke explained that working under Ruud van Nistelrooy would be a “great opportunity” for the forward to develop his game.

This comes after Football Insider exclusively revealed on 22 November that the 20-year-old wants to leave Brighton in search of first-team football.

Sources say there is still work to be done before a move to Leicester is on the cards, but Ferguson is keen to make the move with the promise of increased playing time.

The Foxes view the Ireland international as a potentially pivotal player in their fight to stay in the Premier League as they want to add quality in forward areas.

However, Brighton are yet to decide on whether they will accept loan bids in the January transfer window, but could be open to offers.

Leicester are keen to add to their squad in the January transfer window to assist Van Nistelrooy and boost their chances of survival.

There is recognition that, while they have scored goals so far this season, there is still too much reliance on 37-year-old Jamie Vardy to lead the line.

The potential loan move would allow the Foxes legend more opportunities to rest, as well as providing the opportunity to play the two together as a partnership.

Ferguson is keen to remain in the Premier League and would welcome the possibility to become a key player at Leicester, as well as the chance to learn from both Van Nistelrooy and Vardy.

He has played just 269 minutes of club football across ten appearances in league and cup this term, scoring one goal.

Fulham are also said to be keeping a close eye on his situation, but the Foxes are keen to beat off rivals in their attempts to land the striker in January.

Well there's a horrible little rumour floating about that Spurs are offering €25mill+ for Buo.  And if that's the case and we imagine that they've got wind that Brighton are willing to sell, then I think we can all put 2 and 2 together and come up with 468, Buo comes to us for a cool £25mill and we get Ferguson on loan. Champions League, here we come!

Can't take two on loan from the same Premier League club so it's a non starter!

If the logic is to bring him in as the Vardy replacement.... Impossible job, then surely it's a loan to buy if we stay up. Sending them back Buonanotte to play first team for Brighton or sold to who knows.

Big 6 months for Daka to show he's worth keeping around. With Ayew (a winger really) Édouard's joke of a loan and Cannon away on loan, we're seriously weak.

If it's true it means we're even more weaker and have no starting RW really, BDR, Ayew, McAteer.... Weak

Could Buonanotte’s age mean he doesn’t need to be registered in the squad therefore loan rules don’t apply?

Buy him with a clause they can buy him back for the same price to get around us not being to loan lol

I was genuinely thinking this the other day can you get around a loan system buy having a £0 buyback?

cynically assuming not as we would of seen this before.

Surely i’m not the only person who thinks he is drastically over hyped. He’s had a couple of good games and then he’s suddenly worth 50m and going to be world class. Yet, he doesn’t even get scraps of minutes at Brighton, who prefer Danny welbeck at his ripe age and pedro, who in all fairness has never hit the levels expected of him. And don’t forget that brighton are one of the best creative sides in football, as a striker you naturally will look better with the amount they create for you and the extra space they buy you.

I think it has disaster written all over it tbh and he wont be much better than George Hirst.

So many players like him at clubs that get this hype because the club don’t play them and you just get a snippet but there’s always a reason behind it. Troy parrot at spurs is a good example, always had a huge hype but wasn’t able to light up the championship.

with all  young talent, of course they could make it to the top, but paying the levels required for him now doesn’t make sense to me.  Particularly when you consider someone like delap was available for a fraction of that. It’s just very very unlikely to work out as good business

I think it would be considered unsporting and not sanctioned by the league.

A striker right now isn't a priority, we need cbs and fullbacks.

It might be after a busy December and a single injury.

I think if Daka and Vardy stay fit we may just have enough and recall cannon as replacement for Edouard who doesn't even get in squad anyway. We got to fix the most critical issues and thats defenders and potentially another attacking threat from wide in Abduls absence as mcateer is not premier league quality right now.
