If there’s no link to Ruud, this stinks of the club getting their ducks in a row (A Christmas miracle, I know) for next summer. Barry-Murphy is very highly regarded and has been linked to championship jobs in his own right.

The last manager we got from the CFG did alright, didn't we? It's abundantly clear that RVN needs folk around him.

Linked but not contacted by Preston, also linked to Blackpool

I know nothing about him, so not gonna pretend it's good/bad.

But to me this is a club trying to get coaches in to play the Enzo way for the long term. This to me from the outside is an Enzo recommendation

Wonder if Enzo requested him last year as both were at Man City at the same time, Barry Murphy left a few months ago and is now available.

RVN did say he had spoken to Enzo before taking the job. I'd say this is a very probable scenario.

Huge family Friends with Roy Keane

Roy keane is on record as saying this lads dad Jimmy is his only sporting idol

Ruud and Keane get on very well, have to think that Keane was instrumental in this

If that was the case it probably wouldn’t have taken an additional 3 weeks to appoint someone out of work.

How do you know he was even in the country at the time. Could have been on holiday then come back for talks with us.

So he is recommended for the job and needs to be a face to face interview in a world where business meetings are constantly facilitated remotely.
Or let’s just say, he is on holiday and offered the biggest role of his career. “Sorry John can I get back to you in 3 weeks just I’m on holiday or have a holiday planned.

Sounds good to prospective employer in role that’s a massive step up the career ladder.

Brian Barry-Murphy is due to be appointed Leicester's new first team coach under Ruud Van Nistelrooy.

The former head coach of Manchester City's elite development squad is available after leaving the club in the summer.

Ex-Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Barry-Murphy, who also managed Rochdale, is expected to link up with the Foxes once the move is finalised, with the deal not yet signed.

Van Nistelrooy said: "It's not official yet but I can confirm, 99.9 per cent is done on the contracts. I'm very happy to add him to the coaching team.

"It's a very important factor in the translation of the game model to the training pitch, developing the team, the unit and individual to the max.

"He is excellent in that and I'm very happy to add him to the team."

Even if his final seasons in charge of Rochdale and Man City under 21s were poor, looks like he did very very well in the 2 seasons prior in charge of each of them as well

Ruud van Nistelrooy is on course to add to his Leicester City coaching staff with former Manchester City Under-21s boss Brian Barry-Murphy set to join.

Van Nistelrooy has said Barry-Murphy will arrive as “assistant coach” and will be the second new staff member to follow the Dutchman to City. The manager brought his Manchester United colleague Jelle ten Rouwelaar with him as assistant/goalkeeping coach.

Barry-Murphy comes in after three years with Man City’s development squad. He was Enzo Maresca’s successor there and followed up the Italian’s title in 2021 with two more in 2022 and 2023. Last season, in Premier League 2’s new format, they finished 23rd in the 26-team table.

Prior to that, Barry-Murphy was manager of Rochdale. Two seasons running, he guided them to safety in League One, but they were relegated in his final year in charge. As a player, the Irishman was a defensive midfielder, his clubs including Preston, Sheffield Wednesday and Bury.

Van Nistelrooy said at his press conference on Tuesday: “It’s not official yet, but it’s 99.9 per cent done on the contract. I’m very happy to add him to the coaching team.

“It’s a very important factor in the translation of the game model to the pitch and developing the team, the units and the individual, to the max. He’s excellent at that, so I’m very happy we can add him to the team.”

When van Nistelrooy arrived, he retained three members of Steve Cooper’s coaching staff. They are first-team coach Ben Dawson, set-piece coach Andy Hughes and goalkeeper coach Danny Alcock.

Vaguely remember his name from years ago as a player. Hopefully he can bring some fresh ideas and someone Ruud can rely on as currently stands there like a lost boy at times on the side. Just hope we move the last of the Cooper staff on now with maybe another new face soon.

A positive step. The club desperately need good and talented people in place, if we are ever to get anywhere near the club we once were. That was Pearson's strengths and we rested on laurels off it for a decade..

So highly thought of, he was let go at the start of the season after finishing 23rd of 26th

Manchester City’s Under-21s have made an impressive start to the new season after disappointment last time out.

At Manchester City, underachieving isn’t accepted.

Thankfully, supporters haven’t had to endure many lean spells in the last decade. Pep Guardiola simply won’t allow it. Nor will the club’s bosses, led by Ferran Soriano and Txiki Begiristain.

The results speak for themselves and no club in recent times have hoovered up more trophies than the Blues in East Manchester. City’s executives have created a winning culture that permeates all aspects of the club’s infrastructure, and runs through the first team, women’s side and underage set-up.

Except, last season there was one standout anomaly: the Under-21s. City won just four league games at that age group in 2023/24 and finished 23rd in a league of 26. It was a shock given the Under-18s challenged for the title and won the FA Youth Cup, while the Under-21s had won the league in each of the previous three years.

“I felt like last season we were a bunch of players put into a team and we’ve never really played before, whereas this season we have grown up together and we know each other inside out,” reflected Jahmai Simpson-Pusey, who captained the Under-18s in May’s Youth Cup final triumph. “I feel like with the good team bonding, we’ve been getting some good wins.”

There were other reasons for last season’s slump, including the changes to the league format, the departure of notable youth players and, as a result, the selection of a slightly younger team at Under-21s level.

So he was laying the groundwork for the first teams performance this season?

So, they’re doing exactly what most on here have criticised them for not doing previously… being prepared for all eventualities?

This seems like a very good appointment, Time will tell.

He certainly knows the Development teams od all the big Clubs, So in a good position to recommend a few that we can bring in and develop for the future.

His dad Jimmy Barry Muprhy (or JBM as he is known) is one of the icons of Irish Sport.

One of the very few to win All Irelands in both codes.

An absolute gent to boot.

Brian Barry was a jobbing defensive footballer of sorts around the third tier and his coaching career which I think started in his early 30s or so looks solid if not spectacular.

Looks an OK appointment but a big ask with what's going on around us.

We need someone with a defensive plan to implement and he may be worth a shot.

Here's hoping.

A big bit.
