Best thing was RVN took only two games to discard Ward. But without several better players I don't see how we stay up. Can't keep the ball going forward. Defenders probably aren't good enough either but the real issues are further forward.

Thought we played alright given the opponent. We kept Salah and Nuñez quiet but Liverpool targeted our weak link in Justin.

Positives:

-We are much better on the ball with Winks back in the side.
-Mavididi was far more direct which was a good threat.

-Ayew and Bilal were solid.

-Jacub is 10x better than Ward.

-VK did well to keep Salah quiet for most the game.

Negatives:

-Soumare was really poor.

-Justin keeps getting targeted - we need to sign a new RB in Jan.

-Daka with his usual garbage finishing.

Overall I think it’s a step in the right direction, but the Wolves loss and the leaky defence has really put us in trouble in the table. Really hope we have a good window in January as I think that’s Ruud’s only hope.

I thought Soumare did well, especially first half. Ayew was too slow on the transition and Jacub was a million times better than Ward.

Scoreline certainly a lot better than expected, and I think 2-1 would’ve actually been the fairer scoreline

Pretty decent Prem debut for Stolarczyk - hopefully that means the end of us having to see Ward again this season / ever

Though yet again exposed that we desperately need at least a new right back and at least 1 new attacking player

I'd disagree tbh, 3-1 was easily fair given they hit the woodwork twice as well.

For me the formation doesn't work without another impactful winger, were badly missing Fatawu.

Ayew just isn't the player we need to start & JJ isn't good enough to play in a flat back four.

Given the current balance of the squad maybe 3-5-2 might be the better option pushing Ayew as a SS and JJ further forward away from goal.

We didn’t press at 3-1 with 10 minutes left, we happily took a 3-1 as if a 0 points and a further -2 to our goal difference was somehow useful to our season. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I absolutely agree with you. With 10 mins to go we continued to pass it across the back 4 before passing it to a red shirt to defend once again.  There was *NO* intension of going for a result at all.

He may not be the best manager in the world but this club has total crap on its bench.  No one he could have turned to was going to make a difference. Outside of Facundo, who on the bench tonight has Premier League quality?

Gives Alves the last 10? Not sub Bilal off when your chasing the game.

Losing Fatawu was monumental. He is the only guy with pace in the wide areas.

Yep.

Some fans will moan that we lack attacking threat, but what do you expect when Mavididi slows down attacks and the other options are a bunch of snails.

Signing both Ayew and Reid got criticised for a reason, yet more idiotic recruitment by Leicester City.

It was much better than against Wolves especially the first half. Given I was expecting an absolute mauling I thought they defended reasonably well. The Daka miss hurt us, he should've buried it. But let's be honest there was only ever going to be one winner.

First half was ok, second really poor. I know they’re a very good side but you’ve got to try and cause them some problems. There wasn’t any belief.

I don’t like RVNs lineups and I don’t like his subs. Not looking promising.

There won’t be many teams come away from Liverpool with a win or draw so it was always going to be hard. We know we need players in and hopefully we are working on targets so we can get them done asap other than that ruud doesn’t really have a lot to work with. We just need to be in touch with a few teams above us to keep the pressure on them when we do get a win. Shame we conceded so close to half time as they came out buzzing in the second half and was always going to be difficult after that

It is what it is.

We are so far short of quality, this is pretty much all we’ll muster more often than not.

Every one of their subs walks into our team but not one of our starting 11 would make their bench.

Buonanotte is technically our best player, however I think tonight kind of showed why he hasn’t been starting.  Pretty much gave the ball away every time he got it whereas Bilal was decent.

I can’t see anything other than relegation at this point.  The squad is shite and we wont be able to sign enough players to make a difference.

Same issue that Cooper had - no attacking intent leading to teams coming on to us way more than necessary and we can't defend.

Doesn't help we seem to only allow one source of creativity on the pitch, ending the match with Reid and Ayew in successive games now is worse than anything Cooper did here (well apart from sign them)

Agree with you on Soumare. He did well before the interval but second half they pressed and ganged up on him and there was no outlet. Thought Ayew tried hard to be fair but does lack pace. Stolarczyk was fairly solid and provided a degree of confidence.

I could never really see how the 3 promoted teams could compete with the 17 who stayed up last season. It still looks that way now that Wolves have sorted themselves out. Not good for football though.

Yep …. It’s terrible for football. We are weaker than we were at the point of promotion, because of some stupid rules theoretically aimed at protecting us!!! (I know, they’re not)

Now I've thought about, Jakub and the two centre halves played well. Bouba and Winks also played well and worked their knackers off. Bilal was very good, and against popular opinion. I thought Mav and Patson worked hard even though they're technically so limited.

My main frustration is that with 20 minutes left, we were somehow still in it and yet we took absolutely no risks. Seemed happy with a narrow loss, which is really disappointing.

Could have been a lot lot worse, reality is our recruitment has been horrible and the squad options are heinous,  we are hideous in both full back positions with a lack of viable options, we have 2 goalkeepers hanging around who should have left the club, last summer when deemed surplus to requirements, we have 4 central defenders all of which are in and around similar levels and arguably all not of the required quality to be 1st choice.

move into midfield, and it’s a similar story, Soumare a player we have been trying to shift for 3 summers, £20m + spent on a player who is nothing more than a bench warmer, Choudhury who again has been nothing more than a squad filler for 3/4 years and is nowhere near championship level starting midfielder let alone a bench option for a premier league side. Out wide again our options are Mavididi and McAteer who are inconsistent at this level, with an aging Ayew and BDCR as alternatives.

Then look at our striking options Daka a player we have been waiting to come good for 3 seasons and Edouard a panic deadline day signing who has barely broke a sweat since joining the club.

Our inability to recruit effectively and efficiently is killing us, we keep stockpiling mediocrity and not being able to shift deadwood is absolutely killing us, make no mistake the club needs a massive revamp. No point having champagne aspirations on how you want to play, hiring a manager to play that way but then purchase/retain lemonade players.

Post of the day. Absolutely on the money 👏
