Scary thing is that our DOF probably actually thought this rather than "we're a premier league team and have literally hundreds of players we could sign who would offer more value"

How many ball playing CB with PL experience were available on a free that summer?

I’m not saying Vestergaard was the correct call but it’s easy to see how the club made that decision when it did

Again, if your limiting yourself to these things then it's a scary thought process for people running a premier league club.

The thought process is flawed if your resulting thought is "Vestergaard on a 3 year deal is as good as it gets"

There is nobody who would realistically stay apart from Stolarczyk that I would want to keep.

Fatawu will be here, probably Ricardo too.

My Championship Squad

GK- Stolarczyk

RB- Justin + Ricardo

LB- Thomas + Coulibaly

CB- Souttar + Nelson + Okoli + Vesteguard

CM- Ndidi + Winks + Skipp + Golding + Choudhury

AM- El Khannouss + Alves

RW- Fatawu + McAteer + Marcal

LW- Mavididi + DCR

ST- Daka + Ayew

+ Cartwright and Monga

Sell

Hermanson

Kristenson

Faas

Soumare

+ Only if we have too- Ndidi + El Khannouss

Release due to wages or not getting a look in.

Coady (We will probably have to keep him)

Vardy (Separate note below)

Ward

Iversen (I'd offer him a contract to stay as N2.)

Plus obviously lose our loans

=10 out.

Buy

2x GK

1x CB

1x ST

Additional players to current squad- Nelson, Alves, Souttar, Choudhury and Marcal

= 7 in.

Our Starting 11 would be easily good enough in the Championship. Sadly, without serious investment at the end of the season we'd come straight back down again. My fear is most of the squad will want out which would be a massive transition for the club.

Vardy- I love him but we simply cannot keep paying his wages without Premiership football.

I saw Hamza for Sheff Utd at Qpr yesterday. He got booked early and generally looked pretty awful. He got hooked in the second half if not he would probably have been sent off, poor tackles etc.

I am not sure he can even play at this level.

Not bad.

Although I wouldn’t want a central midfield pairing of Winks and Skipp even at Championship level. I hope Winks goes to be fair but am willing to give Skipp a go if in the right pairing. I’m not sure who that is though!

And no way do I want to see Vestergaard in the starting 11 if Nelson and Souttar (injury pending) are around.

He was playing RB loads of my mates are Sheff U fans, they love him. More than good enough when called upon for us.

I’m not sure why he is consistently being put at right back. Put him in his proper position and at that level he is a good

player.

I’m not sure he can play defence midfielder. Although our midfield is dreadful.

That is a strong team for the championship. Weaker than last season but still a good enough team to do well next season. Provided we have the right manager who can Instill some team spirit amongst the group.
we would be short in terms of a GK and ideally can get another back up. I get what you mean with Iversen. Personally I hope he moves on as I think we have really held him back. He had good reviews from Preston and stoke I think, and then he was back up to Ward. I hope he moves on and plays and shows us he is good enough.
vardy might be offered a new one year deal. But will have to be realistic wages. Or heavily incentive based on promotion.

ideally I just want to see Coady, Faes and Vestegaard leave and play Souttar, Okoli and Nelson instead. Play players with potential who want to play for our club. Far too long low level players taking fortunes out of the club who don’t care.

Scary to think we've only drawn one and won one since this was posted originally on December 27th - so it looks like panning out to be pretty accurate, Cannon aside of course!

Very strong team on paper this one.
I hope Stolarczyk is our number 1 next season.
I would move on Coady, Faes and Vestegaard. Play Souttar and Okoli cb with Nelson as 3rd choice.
great shout with Doughty.
I have not been impressed with Skipp at all. Genuinely can’t tell you what he does as a footballer apart from run. I would play Winks and Ndidi if we still have him.
Fatawu really depends how he returns from injury. El khanouss will be brilliant and Mavididi will do very well.

i just can’t see us signing archer as I think we will struggle to spend anything in the summer. More than likely it will be Daka as our 9.
If Ricardo stays, maybe he could do the RB role as well, I felt he was the best player in championship last season. Again depends how he recovers from injury.

We should be doing everything to get an all purpose manager, not just a coach. The club is not capable of having a specialist - we won’t be but we need to be.

Someone to spank Rudkin and Top like the little weasels that they are. Put Top in a corner and let the team say hello to him sometimes so he gets his friends vibe that he craves so desperately.

Until we do that, we will suffer.

Robins is the one for me

I do get why there were a couple of comments saying far too early to think about this.

From my perspective we have an owner who does not care, board who are incompetent, a manager with no experience at this level of a league table. Players who are overpaid, pampered and have no passion for our club. And fans who attend without showing any noise or support for a team.
I felt relegation was pretty much nailed on at the time and thinking about a championship side actually was quite promising . A chance to remove overpaid players who are not good enough and focus on creating a team we can be happy and proud to support again. Maybe it was dreaming to forget reality. It is just incredibly sad to see our club go from one of the best run sides in the world of football, to the shadow of a club that we see before us now.

My ideal for the next 24 months would be Nige as DOF and Dyche as manager. Can you imagine that combo standing for the apathy and performance levels we currently have? They’d be alike a feckin’ defibrillator for the club.

At this point I’d accept anything if I was told that it didn’t include Vestergaard or Faes.

Reluctantly I’d sell Mads H & Bilal to finely balance the books and get us back in the black, the bad PSR seasons should be dropping off the FA/EPLs “lower clubs restricting” window & it’s time for a reset.

Would listen to offers on any player tbh.

We need to address CB at least 1 new to go with HS, BN & CO, then a dual footed RW/LW & CF as a must.

Theres enough in every position in the rest of the squad to be getting us up if the 3 positions mentioned above are filled.

With any funds recovered we need to be buying a few hidden gems & to make proper decisions on our academy lads especially those that are 21/22 play them or get rid.

Everyone likes a cup run but next year will be about promotion so ensure a good chunk of the academy lads that are on the fringes get plenty of game time in the cups.

The aim will obviously be to get up at the same time be able to use some of the academy & hidden gems from the get go if we find ourselves in the premier 26/27 season, allowing us to offload some of those stinking the place out that will still be here but without then having to backfill to many squad slots allowing us to just be able to add some quality not wholesale changes.

I would also not be giving new contracts out Willy nilly until the end of the 25/26 season when I know what league I’m in, who my manager will be & what formation I’ll be playing in that following season.

We really do, this time, have an opportunity for a reset.

Immediately, I'd make Coady, Ayew, Vesty (who I kinda like, but that's not the point) and BdCR all unavailable for selection to a manager

They'd all be invited to discuss a settlement with us or welcome to train individually at Belvoir Drive in the afternoons when the girls are finished. No training available at Seagrave.

Ward, Vards, Luke Thomas out. Hamza loaned out.

We'd fetch money for the great man Wilf (who has a clause, mentioned when those Monaco rumours came up), Soumare, Bilal, Mads and at a push Winks & Faes..

The core of the phoenix squad will be based around JJ, Okoli, VK, Skipp, Abdul, Stephy, Daka, Stolarcyk, Souttar, Coulibaly, Ricky, Ben Nelson, McAteer plus any kids that have potential (tho I'm far from convinced of alves, braybrooke etc) . Add 3 X PL loans and a couple of free agents.

My captain out of that lot would be, yup, JJ. Never hides..Speaks well. Great attitude. And a very good championship player.

We probably wouldn’t make a profit on Bilal, so there’s no real financial incentive to sell him.
