I’m pro Ukraine but feeling a bit skeptical about this drone attack on Chernobyl this morning. I don’t really see what the Russians would gain from it, while the timing means Ukraine could potentially gain a lot. Maybe the Russian military really are that stupid.

Well Russia immediately called it a false flag operation… one of 457 such operations to have happened in and around Russian conflict zones in the last decade, so you know, your hunch is probably spot on.

Mean it doesn’t sound like Russia to indiscriminately bomb whatever the hell they want does it?

Vance is an absolute weapon who sold out a lot of what he believes for power, but much of what he said was true. Particularly on the paranoia over "misinformation" which increasingly looks like an attempt to deflect from the fact that many Europeans are losing faith in their political systems to deliver what they want.

Still, death to America, as always.

You’re joking right?

You don’t have to go far in social media land to find rampant agenda based content.

Mean Musk knew what he was doing when he bought Twitter, he’s turned it into a strongly right leaning echo chamber; god forbid if they get hold of TikTok too.

Musk’s play with Twitter is akin to what Rupert Murdoch did with his courting of newspaper and media interests - only, social media is 100x more powerful because you don’t have the level or number of gatekeepers you get in the media industry and of course people look at it for much longer.

Weak stuff, "look at me"

It’s not weak stuff because it has driven the news cycle - and gained enough cheerleaders across Europe to make it substantive.

The accusations levelled are also difficult for leaders around the Europe to respond to because there’s a somewhat hollow truth to them if we ignore the rampant hypocrisy of where they’re coming from.

Make no mistake - this is becoming a huge moment for not only the future prospects of Europe, but the wider World.

Away from the EU structure it removes the layers of decision making bought in by the MEPs. In truth it just needs the heads of states to agree an action going forward.

Probably the first time I’ve agreed with you on this thread.

Probably to work out what the hell he's going to do, but I don't think even Donald Trump knows :(

I’m skeptical, doesn’t mean they didn’t do it. Just on the basis for why would they do it now? I’ve seen some credible OSINT saying that it was probably an unintentional crash on the way to Kyiv, but obviously flying explosive drones over a nuclear disaster zone is abhorrent in the first place.

Drones on the way to Greenland crash into them.

They do something like this before every big NATO meet though. It’s designed to scare people and convince them they have to end the war before something disastrous happens. In the case of the Republicans it’s been working for years.

Exactly this.

It's been building for the last decade, and history shows very clearly where it ends, if it isn't stopped.

Only this time, the body count might not stop at tens of millions.

I think 'Russian bots' and such stuff has become a convenient scapegoat for media and political elites who don't want to face up to the flaws in their own societies. Brexit was an example of that.

Vance: Free speech is in retreat in Europe.

Trump administration: Associated Press is now banned from the White House indefinitely because they referred to the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of Mexico.

They’re ****ing psychopaths.

It’s so ironic that many of these free speech “champions” restrict speech as soon as they have the power to do so. Elon has banned  / restricted accounts he doesn’t like on X. Bunch of cvnts.

Russian bots aren’t needed now there’s active cheerleaders in the ‘mainstream’ pushing a sympathetic narrative towards Russia.

Just look the accounts falling over themselves to back this narrative and stir rumour without any basis to back them up - social media is no longer being used to discuss opinion, it’s being used to impress opinion.

The same people that chide mainstream media for driving narratives are doing exactly the same themselves; there’s no nuance or independent thought, it’s all calculated, orchestrated propaganda.

It’s also worth remembering that applying western based logic to Russian matters is foolish - they operate in a completely different axis of understanding.

I think the biggest irony is that the situation in Europe can be charted back to American military action overseas; when it was happy to be seen as the world’s police because it granted them overwhelming power in the process.

EVtopcars  ·

Tesla has experienced a significant decline in market share in Sweden and Norway, with registrations dropping by 44% in Sweden and 38% in Norway in January 2025. Despite Tesla's Model Y being the top-selling car in both countries last year, the company's image has taken a hit due to CEO Elon Musk's controversial political involvement.
Interestingly, overall car registrations in both countries have increased, highlighting Tesla's struggle amidst rising competition and shifting consumer sentiments.

Good, hopefully this spreads to the rest of Europe, I certainly wouldn’t buy one.

I don't know what's the most depressing...

This thread

The depression thread

Any given match day thread

I'd say the match day threads, just.

Mind the allies were certainly relieved when the US joined in both ww1 and ww2

At the last possible opportunity and only because they had been injured personally and had no other choice and/or saw the opportunity for massive personal gain. Not out of any real sense of altruism.
