Hmmm?

Probably as close as anyone is going to get to an apology for a crass and very ill-advised comment.

This is the problem with softball interviews though - with no challenge, you can let your guard down.

I’m surprised that:

A) He apparently didn’t mean the UK* and/or France

B) He sought to correct it regardless.

*(regardless of the fact Starmer isn’t our head of state but that’s the kind of thing I’d expect to be gotten wrong)

People rightly talk about the impact social media has had on voter preferences but perhaps it's underestimated how much social media discourse has changed how politics itself is done. DJ Guyliner being a good example of this. One of the most powerful people in the world going on like a based trad twitter account.

He’s been rightly getting pelters all over social media for this - with the case against too strong to double down, so a row back was required.

Perhaps this reveals that the US administration has already accepted that nato troops won’t be allowed there and it would have to be some UN force.

Not from the UK or France anyway.  I find it hard to believe he is that stupid that he really meant the UK & France.  I hope he isn't anyway.

Unfortunately, I believe it. I don’t know where he’d get the 20k figure from if he didn’t.

Even if he didn’t, I recall a lot of countries supporting the USA when it came to shooting down Iranian missiles. Or invading Iraq. Or standing alongside them when they triggered Article 5 after 9/11.

We’ll it certainly asks the question that why would he be discussing a peace keeping force when he’s already started that the minerals deal offers all the security that ukraine needs with US workers there (history shows enough occasions when both US civilians and troops have been killed without any effective response from the US govt) and also that putin should be trusted to keep his word.  if that’s true then what difference who is there to observe the peace ??

Didn’t starmer/macron speak about a 20k force of peace keepers ??

I understand we’re also the only ones so far to openly claim an interest in doing so.

Also, it's telling that Vance considers warfare the primary yardstick by which a nation is measured.

"...you inescapably associate technological advancement of a species' power with advancement of their capacity to intentionally inflict violence on each other. The capacity for violence and the nobility of restraint in its application is just so tightly bound up in your narrative of what it means to be powerful that it ruins your suspension of disbelief to be asked to question it."

Away from America for a second, some of the transcripts from the Kyle Clifford murder trial are shocking.

Has to be one of the most messed up things I’ve read. Sometimes people snap and lash out murdering people but it sounds completely premeditated, planned and just sickening.

The fact he waited in the house for an hour for his ex mrs to come inside from the garden, after murdering her mum, gagged her then shot her with a crossbow. Just unreal and harrowing

Kemi Badenoch really is the Jon Rudkin of political leaders, isn't she?

Just thought that Vance reminds me of a political version of Kendrick in A Few Good Men.

Wouldn't surprise me if he stood up and said that the only authority he's answerable to is Donald J Trump and the Lord Our God.

Fair to say.

I do think though if he's got Trump on one side of a matter and (what he thinks is) his Lord on the other, then he might have to consider for a moment.
