Back in the day Ward would have got the full works from us if he returns playing for Wrexham.

Now pretty certain he’ll get :appl:from some

It will sound like he's getting booed but really, it will be our fans telling the players to shoot, wherever they are on the pitch. Even Stolarczyk will be encouraged to have a go.

Wrexham may have taken their eye off the ball a bit if that is legit. I have been assuming there's a pretty smart operation going on behind the facade. This would be a major red flag - would be enough of an error to put them in relegation contention.

Remember they have done this before with Ben Foster.

I think the guy they've got as DOF is fairly experienced in the lower levels of pro football, he's been able to pinpoint players and staff that are willing to drop below their level for good money.

Now that they're not going to be able financially outpower 99% of the teams in the league, I think they probably need to have another look at their recruitment methods/staff. If you start overpaying and fail at this level, you'll very quickly blow through tens of millions.

Their way of progression has been to aim for better and more experienced too. I don't think that works at Championship level but the signing of Smith from Reading in January suggests there is an acknowledgement to change.

The owners and Kerr don't shy away from making hard decisions in the name of progress as well, so I don't see them sticking with something if it isn't working. Especially if they are haemoraging money.

I was talking about Shaun Harvey, I had assumed he was a DoF but he's down as CEO. Feel like he essentially does that DoF role though. So I wonder if he'll be asked to relinquish those responsibilities for someone who can bring in the players that can push them to the next level without having to break the bank.

It'll be really interesting to see how they deal with this challenge.

Finishing below Cov would be our final humiliation under Aiyawatt

Finish below cov, I hope we play Hull away last game. I'll buy a ticket then go full on Reggie Perrin into the north sea.

Wrexham’s journey has been incredible, however I think the step up to the championship will be a massive challenge, they will need to bring in quality which will cost big money and then you have the wage disparity with the existing squad, think it will be a tough season to navigate and wouldn’t be shocked to see them in and around the bottom 6.

I can’t see Phil Parkinson making it to Christmas, and can see Steve Cooper ending up there.

People said the same about when the got promoted to League 2. Then they said it again when they got promoted to League 1.

I'm already salivating at the thought of him taking a goal kick here as an opposition goalkeeper.

He'll need to play us first game of the season if so - any manager with a brain will have him permanently duck-taped to the bench by September

Chris Wilder potentially on the brink of leaving SU again allegedly .

You can just imagine they'll appoint Paul Fotheringham Hexckinbottom  Postlethwaite or some other Uber Yorkshire name. It's what Sheff U do.

Yes - hopefully finish about Luton !

Plymouth are League one though .

Fair point! 😂

I'd forgotten they went down - in hindsight I should have posted it in one of the many Manager threads.

Does he? I just had a quick look at his managerial career and it doesn't seem at all even close to being impressive.

Yeah doesn't seem to last long anywhere. Moving from a Pep obsessed possession obsessed manager in Manning to a Red Bull alumni is certainly interesting though.

Think it just shows the distinct lack of creativity their board have to be honest.

I would say more a lack of strategic, long term thinking.

As much as Mannings football was soooo boring at least stick with a philosophy for more than one manager.

They are run by idiots though, which is certainly a familiar feeling.

I know it's supposed to be totally random but will anyone be surprised if our opening fixture is Wrexham home or away 🤔

As far as I'm aware, fixtures are not completely random nor are purported to be. Have you noticed that we tend to always play Liverpool away around December/January time? There is a reason for that which escapes my mind.

The EFL work with a company that uses a fixture generation algorithm that takes into account stuff like holiday periods, stadium sharing, derby avoidance etc.

You can request certain fixtures at certain times of year. I can’t remember who it was requested they be away from home so much early in the season due to ground work a few years ago. It’s also why there’s local derbies on bank holidays in non-league.

I have no idea why Liverpool or us might always request to play that fixture then though!?! (Apart from the usual three points they get).

Liverpool was always at Christmas due to travel distance and no rivalry between the two clubs.

I am pretty sure if you take Man City / Utd out and Everton we are one of the closest games to Liverpool geographically.

Thank you for that.  Still think it will happen though.
