I think it's highly likely to be Martin. He wouldn't be my first choice but Top will want us to become the Man City of the champ

If only was no promotion, he would be in heaven.

My top 6 which I keep changing the order of who I want.

Liam Roseinor

Danny Rohl

Urs Fischer

Quique Sanchez Flores

Brian Priske

Bo Svensson

Obviously I want Rohl and Roseinor but don’t see it happening. I just don’t see us looking abroad at other options.

I think Dyche, and I think he will be good for us, rebuild the squad and faith in the club.

I want a manager who's number one philosophy which at times could be to his detriment is developing young players, but in particular from our academy.

That should be the one and only person specification on the job advert. Otherwise I'm not interested, appoint a beaver instead.

If we look at the managerial appointments and sackings since Vichai's tragic death, it does make for grim reading.

Puel - Right to sack, team going nowhere.

Rodgers - Very good appointment for the first two years, but should have sacked him a good six months earlier. Had they done so in October 2022, survival would have been very achievable and a far better replacement could have been found.

Smith - Port in a storm and given an impossible job. We did at least look like scoring and winning, but too much to do. And too slow to appoint him, meaning we lost a critical game against Bournemouth under two woeful caretakers.

Maresca - Good appointment who had a good summer transfer window. We were a little fragile mentally, but the players clearly loved playing under him and I do believe he has quite a high ceiling. He should have been backed more in January. He may not have left if we had and, while he probably wouldn't have lasted the season in the PL due to stubbornness, you can guarantee the transfer window would have been better than....

Cooper - Atrocious appointment. Blind panic after Potter, who would have represented a clear transition and future planning, turned us down. The playing style couldn't have been further from Maresca's, the players weren't having him, the transfer business was criminal and talented young players like Nelson and Alves weren't given a chance to step up despite youth development being one of his key strengths according to supporters. They sacked him at the right time, but...

RVN - Sounded good, seemed to have the right ideas and started well. But that game at Newcastle was the turning point. Ward being on freaked the defence out and was a key part of the collapse, which would have alerted a more able manager to the fact that he wasn't it and Stolarczyk should have been played for the crucial Wolves game. The team was beaten the moment Ward was picked for that one and we've never recovered. The board also failed to back him in January despite it being clear that he had been promised otherwise- same as Maresca. He's been stubborn, clueless and lacking authority since and must leave as soon as possible for his own sake as much as the club's.

So it's fair to say it has been a mixed bag under Top's tenure. Right on Puel and initially right on Rodgers, it's all been horribly and steeply downhill since 2022. The one correct managers decision since then, Maresca, appears to me more of one that fell into their lap rather than one they actively sought out. And they still did wrong by him.

The depressing truth is that we're reliant on the right man falling into the club's lap again and them doing right by him when he does. But the record isn't great, to say the least.

One omission from that sound analysis is that Maresca too ‘fell into our lap’ after we were turned down by Scott Parker!

I am sure I read somewhere that Maresca was recommended to Top by an owner of a premier league club. Also wasn’t Enzo’s Agent John Morris, the one who represents Vards and was known to have quite a tight relationship with the club and Rudkin.

Did Parker actually turn us down? Heard that a couple of times recently

I would go with Carrick personally, he’s probably reached his limit at Boro and we can match or better his salary he plays football the right way, and would definitely integrate our young players more into the first team.

yeah I like him too, that middlesborough side is poor and he's got them punching above their ability, which we need.

Yes, I would take Carrick.

There may even be a chance of it happening given he'll probably have more resources here, a decent youth setup, Seagrave and, crucially, Top might have played as him in FIFA07.

I watched the game vs Leeds and although they lost they played some decent stuff and play with a real intensity too. He has even managed to get Kelechi making lung busting 60 yard recovery runs to support the defence 😊

He has blooded a decent number of academy players and their transfer business has been pretty decent too, Hayden Hackney would have been a brilliant summer addition to the squad to replace KDH instead of us spunking £20m

+ on Skipp 😩

Carrick would definitely be on my shortlist alongside Rosenior, Rohl, Wellens, Liam Manning and my dark horse would be Reuben Selles, did a great job at Reading under really difficult circumstances and conditions and gone into Hull and got them moving in the right direction as well.

Slight caveat on Carrick is that he'd have to adapt, and fast, if we got promoted.

The data shows that Boro play a slower and intricate style, which is what the club hierarchy wants but is demonstrably unsuccessful for newly promoted sides in the Premier League.

Except our "chums" from up the A46 have shown what can be done under half-decent management, even in this day and age, at a club of our size (or as in the scum's case, smaller..😄)

If and when we return to the top flight. I hope whoever our owner is by then will have the vision and ambition to match Vichai.

I get it can be done, anything ‘can’ happen in any given season but these, I’ll say anomalies, generally don’t last for the beholder as well we know.

This time last season Forest we’re just outside the relegation spots on GD’s alone and didn’t finish very strongly really only winning 2 of the last 5 and other results going in their way to stay in the league finishing 17th.

I hope they do do it, but we know what happens now for a club their size, they will probably keep all their better players due to them being able to play in the CL, we lost Kante which was huge for us, but after fighting on more fronts and probably players playing for the CL more than the PL league position starts to dip coupled with massive spends by the money clubs as they did with the wake up call of our amazing season.

This then sees Forest have a, I’ll say, more in keeping season for a club that size, which has the knock on due to financial reward players have been given, larger transfer fees & salaries for players usually out of their reach & players expectations (heads) now elevated seeing them look for moves to clubs established in CL teams.

Next season do we honestly see Man C in 6th place with 7 games remaining or Man U & Spurs in 13-14th, not a chance.

A club like ours needs gradual progress to succeed not these 1 off successes which do more harm than good overall, I would rather our house be sorted over the coming years than bounce up/down/up with a high manager and player turnover is what I’m getting at with the statement of we need to be looking for the next few seasons of becoming established in the PL not reaching for the stars before we have ground control.

A highly rated Director of Football. Former LCFC Academy coach. Had caretaker spells. Knows the club. Popular with supporters.

Give it Rudkin.

Not sure that's correct. Enzo turned us down after we sacked Rodgers as wanted to finish the season with Man City. He was always the number one choice.

This is a table of average age of formation in the Championship this season, this is the only concern I have when it comes to Danny Rohl. There’s a cluster of other managers though, who have trusted youth quite well.

In terms of abroad, you’re probably best to look at managers from the Jupiler Pro League, Ligue 1 or Eredivisie.
