kingfox Posted 21 April 2025 Posted 21 April 2025 This relegation feels far different to the last one imo. Last time it felt like whoever we got, we’d be in the mix to win the Championship regardless. This time around, we’ve gone down with a whimper, more rot feels like it’s set in, while our managerial appointments and signings this season have just been so bad. The next managerial appointment feels far more important than when we appointed Maresca, we need a guy to completely revitalise this football club. The likes of Martin and Dyche would deject a good chunk of the fanbase from the get go, we can’t afford to make a move like that. We need a Nigel Pearson 2.0, but it’s quite difficult to pinpoint who the right guy would be. 1

Nostalgia maybe but there is absolutely nothing to suggest Whelan, Rudkin, Top have any clue how to sort this out. Edited 21 April 2025 by Blue ROI 4 1

I think last time that any reasonably competent manager could have gotten us promoted because we just had an embarrassing amount of talent for the division. Maresca did it with a bit of style and panache, but pretty much any of the managers around us at the time would have gotten us promoted with a similar level of comfort. That doesn't mean it's impossible this time, but it does mean that the right appointment is the difference between going straight back up again and finishing outside the playoffs. We're not in that 'my nan could get them promoted' phase this time, and we need to be in good hands.
winteriscoming Posted 21 April 2025 Posted 21 April 2025 Genuinely think experience is what’s needed. I would have Puel back as dof and Urs Fischer as manager. 1 1
Trav Le Bleu Posted 21 April 2025 Posted 21 April 2025 The obvious problem is that no decent manager is going to want to come here. 1 1

I think it's important not to conflate 'big name' with 'decent manager.' We might be better off appointing a young manager or foreign manager who'll have KPFC fans scratching their heads because he didn't score 150 Premier League goals or manage Manchester City ten years ago. The board are going to be forced to think hard about the next appointment because Cesc Fabregas, Graham Potter or Manuel Pellegrini ain't coming. It kind of worked in 2023, because they appointed the assistant manager at Manchester City. It certainly worked when things went tits up with Sousa and Sven and they went back, a bit cap in hand, to Pearson.
Claudio Fannieri Posted 21 April 2025 Posted 21 April 2025 Lee Carsley being linked by a couple of journos on X this morning 1

Aleksz Posted 21 April 2025 Posted 21 April 2025 Carsley could be exactly what this club needs but I don’t see it being possible. He’s pretty intent on retaining the Euros this summer, final for that is on the 28th June. Won’t happen.

Rosenior is also a decent shout I think. I think Cifuentes as had rotten luck with injuries at QPR in his defence.. For example Chair has missed about 1/3 of their games.. 2

Sankey93 Posted 21 April 2025 Posted 21 April 2025 Unsure on carsley, never been a club manager I don’t think but he would bring the youth in and expect some lovely England u21 loans to come in which would be nice.
Langston Posted 21 April 2025 Posted 21 April 2025 (edited) Can we say with certainty that Carsley would bring youth in?? He's bound by restriction and boundaries to do it with the U-21s.. We've seen first hand this season that previously being a national team youth coach doesn't necessarily mean trust in youth at club level.. Edited 21 April 2025 by Langston 3 1
Mike Oxlong Posted 21 April 2025 Posted 21 April 2025 (edited) We need a manager who will build a team on the characters of the players and not just their ability or availability. The whole club needs an ethos, a togetherness and standards that has been lacking in recent years. Edited 21 April 2025 by Mike Oxlong 1
phoneticerror Posted 21 April 2025 Posted 21 April 2025 I’d take Carsley. But whoever it is, if they aren’t backed with money, I’m done until KP f**k off.
Winstonthedog Posted 21 April 2025 Posted 21 April 2025 I'd totally go for Carsley .. have to be patient and let him build but he speaks well ..... I'm also glad we didn't get Potter . What an amazing job he's doing at Wet Spam
Guest Bilo Posted 21 April 2025 Posted 21 April 2025 Carsley could be decent, but I worry that he has never managed a club side. Cifuentes is an interesting one.

I think that’s why he’s never gone for a club job, and I’d be surprised if he did now to be fair.
whoareyaaa Posted 21 April 2025 Posted 21 April 2025 Dyche got 2 promotions and knows Rudkin, it will be Dyche 1
kingkisnorbo Posted 21 April 2025 Posted 21 April 2025 Someone who will turf out the chancers and half arser’s and then build a connection with the match going fan base again. 1

Don't underestimate a "decent manager" his crave for a challenge. The Championship is a highly competitive and very attractive league. Smart *decent" managers will see the potential in our younger players and the pros within this squad and work from there. 1
