Incidentally, this is why I want this to get over the line.

The sideways possession football that Top is obsessed with isn't just boring to watch, it's outdated and ineffective.

Wednesday’s stats here are eerily similar to those of our incestuous neighbours down the A46. It may not be pretty, but it works. And it's probably the only way we stay up if we do get promoted these days. The Russell Martin links made my shit itch because the next couple of years were obviously going to be a case of going up (just about) and then getting embarrassed again in the top flight.

With Röhl, you get the sense it'll be more sustainable. High press, fast transitions, plenty of pace and counter-attacking with ruthless efficiency. Again, not for the purists. But I want Manchester City et al whining and moaning about us because we haven't let them play and shithoused a 1-0 win, not a condescending pat on the head for trying to play 'the right way' after a 4-0 home loss.

We have the players for it as well. Mavididi and Fatawu on the break could be lethal. We have quality coming through the youth. Okoli and Nelson will be excellent in this system. Justin, Coulibaly and Ricardo will be horrid to play against. What this system will require is fitness, and this is where Seagrave could finally come good. We have Champions League facilities in the Championship, so there is no reason at all why we shouldn't be the fittest team in the league.

So fit, young, hungry, well-drilled, a bit of extra quality and a reasonable war chest. It could be exciting if we get it right.

Great post and I hope this is how we play but I do think he’ll have to play a little differently here if he comes.

Teams would try and play against Wednesday much more often than they will against us next season and we’ll find space won’t be given to us often. Space in behind wasn’t common for us last time, that’s why Enzo loved to bait the press. He’ll have to coach a good build up when we’re up against a block which can still be boring to watch, but that’s the same for anyone coming in.

We do need to sort out our press desperately as it was the worst in the league last season and in the modern game so many goals come from high turnovers and Röhl as you say can coach that.

One of the few advantages of Vardy going, is that we can play a 9 that can really put the pressure on them all game to help change that.

By way of an 'update' from me....

I asked my mate if he'd heard anything further from that Sub-Editor at the Athletic, who told us that; " the personal details for Rohl have been all done for some time, and that the only sticking point was him getting released by Sheff Wed", a couple of weeks ago....

He simply responded "Danny is Rohling up to the KP, mate"

Take it as you will. I'll take it as he's heard nothing more 😂🤣

Tell him his play on words with Rohl and roll is genius and you've definitely not heard anyone else come up with it

I wonder if this is going to end up like with release clauses in Spain

Rohl pays a fee to Sheff Wed to get out of his contract and then we give it back to him

Röhl is also expected to leave and was not at the training ground when most of the players reported back for pre-season last Thursday. All of the German’s coaching staff are out of contract from tomorrow, and he is understood to be negotiating his own severance terms.

Wouldn't be surprised if Powell comes in before Rohl.

Be interesting to see what Tom Collomosse has to say tomorrow on his LCFC Q&A, I've a feeling he's confident we'll get Rohl.

I don’t mean this as we won’t get Rohl eventually, but I reckon Tom gets nothing tomorrow.

Half of me feels that the club won’t say anything until it’s done and half of me feels that genuinely, we have hardly even started looking.

IMO King power (Top) have this misplaced arrogance where they don’t see urgency as a factor.

I hope I’m wrong and we get serious movement tomrrow 👌

This is an extract from an interview he did last year

bHf90.jpg

If he does come, I think he’d look to make us a more possession dominant team, way more than what his Sheffield Wednesday side are, who have averaged under 50% possession in the campaigns he’s been there. I also expect to see us build from the back, at Wednesday he seems to prefer a goalkeeper that has capabilities with his feet.

The main difference to what we’ve seen in the past though, I don’t expect any tippy-tappy nonsense. Possession with progressive purpose rather than possession just for the sake of it.

But if he can adopt that high pressing, counter-pressing style, then he is head and shoulders above most other candidates. That type of style for me personally, is the most enjoyable style of football to watch nowadays.

From a statistical standpoint regarding some of his players, his set of strikers in Michael Smith, Jamal Lowe and Calum Paterson all ranked highly in the possessions won statistic, which to me indicates that he likes his strikers to be energetic and press from the front. Getting in Shea Charles to accommodate Barry Bannan was sensible business too. Winks or Skipp could easily play the Bannan role, it’s just about finding an energetic box-to-box midfielder who gets stuck in to go alongside one of them.

Wouldn't that be more like "rerl"? Not "rool"
