My only concern with all of this is Trump and Vance have been desperate for an excuse to exit NATO and they've got one.

I'd say it's not ideal timing with Russia looking West, but we all know he wouldn't do anything in that situation anyway so them being in or out of NATO won't really make much difference in the current climate.

Tbh it's amusing how quickly the idea of leaving Europe and focusing on the US has become a lame duck.

Happily, Russia have destroyed their own military in Ukraine so the idea they could fight any sort of conventional war against Europe any time soon, even without the US, is for the birds.

I actually think he's picking the right fight.

Not sure he's picking the right bit of leverage, but doctors are taking the p at this point. Their wages have gone up on average 17% over the last 3 years which is far more than any other job in the country.

While I think public sector wages across the board need to see progress towards at least a degree of restoration if we want decent public servants and services, doctors are misusing their positions in this case imo. They've had so many things given to them recently, I don't understand why somebody that started uni in 2020 thinks their wages should be at 2008 levels.

Fair arguments made, I just don't see the great wisdom in continuing a fight with an area of the public sector most involved in preserving human life.

I'm not sure what would mollify them beyond a ridiculous pay offer. The government hasn't been fighting them, they've had loads. It's time to stop. NHS employees are sick of this. No other section is the NHS is getting anything like what they are. They've even been given the ability to do up to 2 hours a day overtime without employers being allowed to ask them why. They have to give no reason for it, it's just paid, and if anybody tries to check whether they should have, the trust gets a £500 fine each time. It's utterly ridiculous.

They are continuing a fight with the government, not the other way round. It is a case you could give them 10% and they wan't 12%, and it goes on and on and on forever.

Starmers stance is the right one

These are reasonable counterarguments tbf. I just hope it all gets ironed out sooner rather than later.

I realise I'm over simplifying things here....... BUT... the US claims they are self sufficient in terms of Oil....

So why can't the middle east just refuse to sell to the US, and redirect any supply over to the Rest of the World? Once all of this is over... literally just write America out of the equation. And whilst we are at it.... the Gulf Oil Countries might want to look at some alternative routes overland, that remove the straight issue.

Your problem there is that you're being sensible.

No wonder Trump has the hump. On Air Force One, it always looks like they bombard him with questions as he's coming out the loo.

Was it a no. 1 or a no. 2?

Another alternative is to offer them a reduction in pension terms, to deliver an uplift in salary now.  Let them choose which they would want.

I suspect most of them would be VERY reluctant to give up any pension entitlement to address the salary on offer today.

"It was the greatest day for the American people. A smart guy, really smart, gave some advice and I push and obliterated the toilet. The cabin crew said they have never seen such a mess ever. We should be proud as a nation. Our 'allies' could never obliterate a toilet like that, because they are not as great and wonderful as us. "

Trump is a world class tosser.

When will people stop flying/driving to the US?

It pisses me off that fellow Canadians go there. I recognize the tight economies, family on both sides of the border etc but get a fukin back bone for your country and take one's for the team. The guy is literally shagging all of our economies and a lot of people seem to be okay with that.

People, stop supporting these vvankers!

And yes, selfish post. I recognize it's a deep thing and business travel can be required etc but well....yaaaaaa

I used to want to visit the US, but not any more. I guess there are plenty of places and people that are still very welcoming with it being such a huge place, but all the past 10 or so years have put me right off.

A friend of mine is actively looking at buying a place in Florida Keys to use as a holiday home/AirBnB.

If you have family or friends there I understand it, I definitely wouldn’t go to the US just on holiday anymore though, wouldn’t put money into the US economy when I don’t need to, and have been trying to buy European/Canadian/Australian/Japanese/Korean products over American ones if there’s a choice - already planning on switching from iPhone to Samsung phone.

The mrs has a friend that lives over there who wants us all to go over there do a family holiday as their kids and ours used to go school together when they live over here.  Never been really keen but now more than ever I don’t want to step foot over there

Any fans going to the World Cup must be really worried , ice agents will be all over the place and they won’t be able to handle the football banter the police have to deal with and are to trigger happy for their own good. Few chants of Donald trump is a w***** and they will be starting riots with the football fans

Can we rename this the Trump and American Politics thread?

Sounds like we have a trump fan here,  right winger as we know.

Everyone is fed up with hearing about trump but when the clown is doing something more ridiculous every day it’s hard to not post anything .
Starmer is the only one he calls out isn’t he? No one else is getting involved but it’s the uk he always end up talking about so he must have rattled him by not getting involved in his stupid games

He should have started the war when farage and his henchmen were voted in here, he would have bowed to every trumps whim.

Yes don no don, do you require any more sir?

In Tommy's direct defence here, he's stated pretty clearly that Trump is odious to him and that the exhaustion isn't because he's a fan of his.

I do also think that quite a few people in the UK who at least tolerated the man are now realising just how toxic he and his ideology are to everything it touches, and are having what might be called a moment of clarity.
