I watched with my daughter who is a big lioness (and city) fan.  For pure entertainment value that was excellent.  Probably most entertaining womens game I've seen and whilst i accept the quality is below that of the top men (in my opinion, before the women lynch me) it was probably the most entertaining game ive seen in a while, men or women (and especially city!). The premier league mostly bores me these days and the womens national team seem to care a bit more than the men (that was a comment made by my 15 year old and i had to agree).

Well done girls

Yeo - quality/skill of play is not necessarily the same as being entertaining...  Good match - and hopefully they can improve for the next one... *Fingers crossed*

Going off on a slight tangent here, but given we've just had the first £1m women's transfer, I wondered when the actual equivalent was (inflation adjusted!) for the men - to have yet another example of how far behind the women's game now is...  Answer - 1961.

(The first £1m transfer in the men's game happened in 1975, but it was worth 7.8x as much as it is now, so going back in the past, we really need to compare it to the first £100K transfer instead - that's how low the womens' game seems to be worth compared to the men's atm.! :( Is it any wonder the overall standard is as bad as it is?)

Pleased for Hannah Hampton as well. Feel like there's been so much pressure and some resentment towards her not being Earps, which is obviously unfair.

Her interview after was pretty telling (and sad too), where she basically said that for the first time in her England career (during the shootout) she felt she had support from the fans.

I was saying to wife, just blast it down the middle, keeper had dived left or right every time. Great player Lucy Bronze, wish we had a RB like her.

RB is pretty much the one position at this club (Ricardo when fit) that I still wouldn't swap for almost anyone. But agree with the sentiment! Proper warrior.

Yes, but I think he means the manner in which she took the pen. But she fluffed it.

Wasn’t any worse than Lauren James which absolutely stunk of arrogance.

Still  recovering from that match, england always seem to offer drama.  How did we win that match?  How did Sweden lose it?  Surely no other international team has missed 3 of their first 4 penalties and got through?

I was even a little emotional at the end, thankfully i was on my own.

That was absolutely terrible last night, but I loved it lol

Getting through is the main thing, but I've never seen a team ride their luck so much.

England and luck...doesn't seem right does it?

Worth watching Hampton & Bronze's interviews. Quite a step away from the normal regular stuff you see. Bronze is really intelligent (she is a self confessed football nut which attributes to her autism) while Hampton has been placed under far too much scrunity because she replaced a fans favourite but is clearly a better all around keeper.

I think it was actually 1979, Trevor Francis. That’s all we talked about at school that week!

The Swedes had only themselves to blame for that. Far too passive in the second half thinking they could manage it out instead of going for that killer 3rd goal. The dark arts are alive and well in the woman's game with the obvious time wasting and was about to enter the 'cramp' zone until the England goals. Got what they deserved, no sympathy.

Hampton does insanely well for that standard considering her eye condition affecting depth perception. She's brilliant.

Hers was worse IMO

I think the execution of it was, yes.

I'm less bothered about whether Kelly and Agyemang start the next game - if they work brilliantly as super subs, I don't have a problem with that - but surely Morgan has to come in for Carter, who is simply too slow, and doesn't have brilliant positioning or passing skills under pressure to compensate. In fact, too many times it isn't the lack of pace but the fact that she's just passed the ball straight to an opposition player or a complete hospital pass to a team mate that means they inevitably lose the ball. She can pass - there were a couple of lovely through balls when building an attack, but under pressure she makes the wrong decisions too often. Sweden targeted her last night, and whether fair or not, you can sure be Italy and (probably) Spain or France will do the same.

Anyone else needed to wash their eyes with bleach after watching that penalty shoot out?

Mental weren't it lol

I'm still recovering from Kelly's run up for her penalty as well.

I imagine her run up was to not give the keeper the simple check of where the planted / standing foot goes because generally it will point towards the way the penalty will go.

I thought she had the best most confident penalty of them all followed by Russo, Bronze was just a blast down the middle.

Danny Ward would have been proud of some that keeping last night. Sweden's 2nd goal and England's 1st were right out the Wardy book of goalkeeping.

Entertaining game for England fans, owing to the fact that the spirit of Southgate entered the sweden manager at half time and urged them to surrender the initiative to England for 45 mins.

Might watch another!

Men's transfer fees != British Mens' transfer fees :P  (There's more to footy than England - sacrilege I know :P )
