His hands are tied but he needs to start kicking and screaming to get them to untie them. If not he's just going to be the next victim.

Or play a system and style that suit the squad.

This system has flaws if the players most likely to get on the ball in attacking areas are the likes of Luke Thomas and Hamza Choudhury.

We saw teething problems at times under Enzo that the philosophy created opportunities to the players who aren't strong at attacking rather than try to work a system that gets your finishers a higher output of chances.

Surely he gives Aluko a chance over Hamza? Or he needs to invert Hamza and push someone else higher up the pitch. As you say his system is hampered by personnel at the moment.

Need to get Ricardo fit.

Was that down to King? makes you wonder with how they are playing competitive matches now.

It is ridiculous to compare. Nobody is playing with intensity as it’s just pre -season so it’s much easier to play a nice passing game.

Just seen @moore_94 mention how Marti has had 1 month less with the squad at this point than Enzo had, so I am in no way putting any of the blame onto him.

So not only has he not had long with this squad, his outputs and main attacking fronts are having to go through Thomas and Choudhury, with a Skipp and Soumaré pivot in the middle.. Wtf do we expect?

I don't know whether to be worried because his first half tactics were so off in both games, or encouraged by the fact he fixed at HT twice reasonably effectively.

Funnily enough, after a whole two games, I'm remaining neutral.

Alarm bells must already be ringing for him with how the window's going and the performance/application levels from some of the more established senior players. I think he's got a massive job on his hands and I hope he's capable of doing it (start by abandoning the Soumare + Skipp midfield please) but I'm already worried the environment around him is just completely ****ed.

It would be in his interest to demand we sell or loan out a number of players, and to give him the opportunity to bring in 4-5 starters in this window.

That might be seen as a big job, but it feels like we are a midtable championship club right now with the low quality and attitudes with much of our squad.

It's better than we had last season. Both Cooper and RvN didn't have a clue how to change it. So there is a positive

Early days, but not so impressed, his style is Maresca mark 2 with larger alloy wheels.

Hopefully he will prove me wrong.

Give him a chance. He’s barely been here a month and inherited a lot of shit. Turning on him as well as most of the players won’t help

Feel the same, a worrying start

100%.  These managers piss me off with the "this is the way we play attitude".  Just play winning football, pick a style that suits your squad and look at how you can beat your opposition

To be fair, being better than Cooper and RvN isn't much of an achievement lol

He needs to get ruthless, otherwise I fear some of these players will hang him out to dry.

This squad consisted of too many unlikeable players last season, a good chunk of them still remain.

It’s going to be a tricky task for Marti to make progress, if those chunk of players are still here by September.

Can't judge this manager to any extent .. this is other managers mess he's clearing up .. I will only judge when he brings players in that want to play for the club and him

The only concern for me, and it's not really a concern yet, is that the things you could see him implementing in preseason that looked good don't really seem to be happening in the competitive games.  The 2 things mainly.  1 being the press.  We were using a pretty intense high press in which even Skipp appeared useful in pressuring opponents, and it was organised with players pressing together and really chasing players down.  That seems to have gone out the window. Number 2 is the fullback positions.  So we had 1 invert and one support the attack with the winger.  But against Wednesday we didn't really see JJ invert into the midfield and we didn't see Thomas getting up front to support the winger aside form one effort by Thomas in the first half.  I'm not really sure how he's structuring that now.  It seems way more erratic.

But as said, he's not up to speed yet.  Plenty of time for things to get better.
