The Soumare and Skipp pairing is the only criticism I will have.

That will become a thing of the past once the new lads have bedded in.

JJ looked mustard when he came on.

Weren't they targeted questions about who have been impressive mentally, effort, etc. Not so stomps to say they are his favourites.

Well Skipp started again and BDCR now seems a head of Monga. Worrying.

I have a feeling Monga gets on if we weren’t down to 10… but yeah, the starting line-ups have not been good. We can’t continue to say he knows how to change a game with subs, all he is pretty much doing is bringing on those that should start anyway.

Seems you're pretty convinced that he's $hit by calling him an 'amateur' with a 'ropey CV' and conveniently disregarding our last (and best) game.

We were shite against Birmingham. They’re a poor championship team at best. We shouldn’t be having to pull out defensive masterclasses at home to league one standard opposition. A moment of brilliance won us that game. Marti is a fraud. Nelson and Monga should be the first names on the teamsheet for starters!

Well not really. It's team game and throwing youth in cos they are crowd favourites is a stupid idea. Especially as they likely aren't as good as some of the old guard 'at this time'.

(but they will hopefully bypass them)

You want a manager to ease these youth in, not push them to the top of the starting XI, that approach would be best for their development in my opinion.

If by mid season we aren't seeing these guys getting plenty of minutes then it's time to be concerned.

Be interested to hear @StriderHiryu thoughts  on if we might have to adapt our style to be less reliant on the wingers?

Despite the wide men being on paper our strongest area, every opponent so far has seemed to cope fairly well. Stephy and Abdul are more effective out wide when on the break. Seems to be nullified when we have the ball.

Could we pack midfield more and play two/three of  Abdul Stephy Daka Ayew Monga Carranza much narrower and pick teams apart?

It's no coincidence Fatawu has looked far better when Ricardo is on the pitch, he needs a full back to overlap to support him

The output of the wingers is also greatly hindered by Ayew dropping deep so much, it leaves no striker in the box to keep the centre backs busy and makes it too easy to defend against a high-and-wide winger. Ayew is far better in the 10 role or as a second striker when he can play off of Daka (or, hopefully, Carranza going forward)

The football has been honking under him apart from the odd glimpse here and and there. Everything he talked about being his philosophy hasn't materialised.

The jury is still massively out on Marti IMO, he talks a good game but he's making some absolute ridiculous player choices.

Him talking about Skipp and BCDR being his favourites is massively worrying.

But but but he grew up in Barcelona watching Cruyffball and has had fish and chips down the local………..

Monga has been good every time he has played. Has BCDR ever had a good game for us, maybe Brighton where he got a goal and assist?

I think it's a reach to say the youth isnt as good as the old guard, especially when referencing Monga against Reid.

there is something in this team that I haven’t seen for a while and that is a bit of resilience. Still way too early to tell whether marti is the right choice to be honest. Only 2 point off Enzos start I believe after 5 games?

Sounds to me like you just want to be negative. And you confirm that your mind is made up already, so no point in getting into a discussion.

And for the Xth time, Nelson was carrying a knock and was poor against actual lower league opposition.

Monga is a great talent, but he's not the saviour. It's obvious Cifuentes rates him and will give him plenty of minutes. It seems ridiculous to single out Cifuentes for this when Monga and Page are the only players under 18 getting ANY minutes in the entire division.

The worrying thing is we’ve not even come up against anyone good yet and we’ve been second best in every game for large periods.

Marti has been gifted with a ‘if Carlsberg made fixture list starts’. Coventry will batter us next week, mark my words.

Sounds like a bunch of excuses to me. If you’re good enough you’re old enough, simples. Monga is better than Mavididi period.

Got Coventry next. That will be a good benchmark test to see where we are at.

We changed to a 4-3-2 in the second half, BDCR has played up top for the majority of his career, it’s hardly a jump to put him on over Monga for the last bit of the match, I’d bet my mortgage Monga is our first choice back up out wide going forward

Are people honestly turning on Marti already?!?! :nigel:

Hope not, just needs to bring the youth through at a rate that is fair to them as youngsters....he does need to get off Skip and Soumare though as starters..I don't see promotion as realistic or sensible unless the DOF changes.

Everyone said the same about Birmingham, and we won that….

Also, the mighty Cov drew to Oxford too, with 11 men.

Marti has started well, one thing we need to forget is the last time we were in this league.

It was a completely different situation, we’ve just come off the back of our worst season ever in premier league history. Last season was nothing short of an embarrassment… he’s had to somehow pick it up, with a limited pre season, a shackled transfer window and only being able to get payers in on the final day.

Marti deserves credit after he altered things against Preston, he is buying time for the lads to develop, whilst picking up points.

The second half offers a lot of encouragement we were miles better with ten men, and may have even won it. Marti will see after today’s game that he has to play Winks and James, which I think he will do. Also think Ricardo will start going forward too.

Im not getting on his back, I think he is doing a good job, considering the situation he’s been in, which I don’t think some fans realised it is as dire as it is. He’s grinding points out which at this stage is good.

And I think we will beat Coventry.
