Vesty and Faes are our best CBs at this level. I'd love to see both leave and us build with Okoli and Nelson (and Souttar), but they're starters for top international sides.

If Marti chooses to persist with Faes, I and many others are REALLY going to struggle with getting behind him. One foot wrong and he'll be getting Ward-type abuse.

Vestergaard at least had the benefit of the doubt having barely ever featured for us prior to that season. Faes has been a key factor in two embarrassing relegations. I don't really care if he's 'good enough for' or in some fans' eyes 'above' Championship level. So are all our Centre Backs, and none of them carry his baggage or piss-poor attitude. Take any offer, cut the cord, don't let the cloud hang over us at a time when we need a fresh feel and everyone on the same page.

The elephant in the room is that I doubt there's a club daft enough to make an offer our moronic board would accept.

Haven't seen enough of the younger players yet to say for certain whether they're better than this lot - I suspect it is the case. I think at least 3 of those move on though.

We need to sign a striker.

This!

Hows Daka still appearing in peoples line ups lol

If your struggling that much, just leave it at 10 men.

Ayew’s top scoring seasons he’s scored 12, 9 and 7 goals.

If he starts up front next season he won’t hit 15 goals

Based on what? We've not seen Okoli at this level and limited amounts of Nelson (who always impressed and has had rave reviews from his loan last year). Worth saying that Okoli got into the full Italy squad last year as well.

Not doubting they are good enough at this level but we can't really compare with Nelson (properly) or Okoli. Would suggest that Nelson and Okoli are plenty good enough and much younger, so utter pointless to include Faes or Vestergaard in any team.

there is evidence to support this argument. 12 goal contributions is probably the top end of what we could expect. Useful to have but need better as the main striker

Our best 11 ATM probably includes Doris the tea lady in any position other than goal.

I really want to look fwd but right now I can't. With the idiots we have in charge I only see one direction ( if any clever fvcker puts up a silly video of that shite band I'll hunt you down and kill you).

Mistake after mistake, after mistake.

Imagine watching Villa next season with Youri and Bilal for a combined £15 million.

Clubs such a mess behind the scenes.

We ain't selling Bilal for £15m. As useless as Rudkin is, we ain't selling a key player for less than we bought him for. If Bilal goes, it's a minimum of £30m or no deal.

If you take a step backwards, our squad isn’t far off the “best ever squad in the championship “ from a few season ago.  We lost kdh and vardy but now have bilal,(currently)  nelson and  monga and other talented youth available.

I really don’t think the negativity is relevant.  Nobody denies the mismanagement from the board but we have a talented coach and crop of players and have the potential to have an enjoyable season.

I don’t see how a fan can’t be excited about this season tbh. I will be until it all goes wrong as always.

Perfect season we may stand a chance of playoffs.

Problem is a deduction. That and I don't see this gutless squad (older players) having the fight or leadership to get out of it. I so hope I'm wrong but I don't think our falls over yet.

This is unfortunately one of the biggest problems. If we get promoted we'll need at least 15 quality players and I can't see how we can achieve that under the current stupid financial rules.

We could just bank the money, accept a weekly larruping and save it for the next time we get promoted and have a proper war chest.

Should have done that last year really.

Don't entirely know how Cifuentes is going to line up or who we're going to manage to sell, etc, or who he'll get a tune out of. Every new manager, at every club, there's always one or two players that surprise coming back in to the fold.

So, assuming a clean slate for everyone and assuming Enzo's formation because it's still probably the best way for our current squad to line up then the objectively best 11 is probably something like this (unpopular opinion incoming) -

Mads

Ricardo, Faes, Vestergaard, JJ

Winks

Fatawu, Ndidi, BEK, Mavididi

Daka

I mean, that's basically the team that won a load of games in this division last time out. We know they all work, BEK is probably a good enough replacement for KDH that you could carry on as we left off last time we were here.

Would I pick that team? Probably not. Do I expect they'll all be here come the first game? Probably not. But on paper I'd argue that's our strongest 11 still, regardless of how people see some of our kids are at the moment or how sick of Faes, Vestergaard, JJ, Ndidi, Winks and Daka some (most?) of you are.

This is 100% on the money.

Most of this 'gutless' squad have literally done it before.

Cheer up and get on board HMS Piss The League.

The optimism around the season is starting to build. Our squad is definitely looking strong despite no incomings.

A thread to post who you think is our strongest 11.

Now that we have a bit of an idea what Marti will line up with.

my 11 would be

                           jakob

RP Nelson. Souttar (okoli until he’s fit) JJ

                   Winks  skipp

fatawu.               Bilal.               Monga

                             Ayew

2nd 11

                         Bausor

hamza.      Vesty.         Faes.         Thomas

                     Ndidi.      Soumare

Mcateer.               Alves.              Mav

                               Evans

that’s an embarrassment of riches. The second 11 is almost good enough in this league with a couple of tweaks and that’s with us selling mads,

and we still have the following spare:

Aluko

kristiansen

Decordova-Reid

page

wanya

braybrooke

(1 of the cbs)

coady

Woyo (what a waste of a signing that was)

goulding

Winks and skipp can both do one. Championship winks under Enzo I'll take. But if he wants to be in London **** him off to qpr or Charlton about his level.

Posted (edited)

                         Stolarczyk

Ricardo.      Nelson      Okoli.       Thomas.

                              Winks

                   McAteer  El.Khanouss

      Fatawu.          Mavididi.  Monga

Winks will play and he’ll be one of our best players under Marti. I’d have been annoyed if I was him as well, he signs because we want to play a certain style then our dof pivots to Steve bloody cooper.

we need to get that chip off our shoulder about some of this squad

I’d agree. Maybe not the team I’d pick but I agree on paper it’s probably our best 11.

I wouldn't call Denmark a top International side, Belgium possibly were.

I'm amazed how either have been picked to represent their countries.

I agree, they both need to go though. I just don't see anyone buying them unfortunately. We were completely hoodwinked into buying them.

There is no way Skipp should start over Ndidi, Soumare or even Page based on what we’ve seen so far from him.

Unless his performances significantly improve I don’t feel confident about us mounting a serious challenge for promotion with him in the starting 11.

Hang on, are we talking about the same Skipp that was in the championship team of the season?  And you’d play the ball boy ahead of him?

Pretty much everyone was diabolical last season…. Skipp as not as awful as many would have you believe

build a team not a best XI

as for Faes, Coady, Vestergaard Winks etc

individually capable at this level, probably yes.

part of a team you would want, certainly no.
