Surely Preston and QPR can't pay that kind of fee. Confirms my thinking that he's ours if we actually want him.

thats mine too, if the club actually want him, just get it done

Wycombe fans here. Kone is heading to the top. He is unpolished, but has developed at a scary rate. We picked him up from the depths of non-league January 2024 and he was our undisputed number 9 by the time the next season rolled around.

He was immense under Bloomfield, but we have new corporatespeak plastic owners who wanted their own man, so they forced Bloomfield out (you won't see this officially) and treated him terribly before that despite him getting us into the autos playing the best football a Wycombe team ever has. They brought an out-of-his-kiddy-pool-depth "modern coach" in to finish tanking the season (and this one too, no doubt).

Very much hoping it is you rather than Swansea who get Rich. He will continue to develop at a torrid rate.

Sounds like Vardy who when he came here had some great attributes but struggled playing this level of football when a couple of years previous he was working in a factory and playing for Stocksbridge Steels.

The other obvious comparison would be Ivan Toney who was the last big striker to come out of League One and he was brilliant, one of the best strikers in the PL for me before moving to Saudi.

I was a bit dubious over his record as he played at a really low level before going to Wycombe but he has only just turned 22 which probably gives him a better CV than Vardy or Toney before their moves to Leicester and Brentford. Happy yo hear your analysis of him as an uncut diamond.

If he’s only got a year left then we’ll surely not pay £5m.   Maybe £3m with achievable add ons of £2m and a decent sell on clause

That is about what Swansea have had turned down

If we do sign him and he starts the season well, what are his chances of being called up for AFCON? How deep are Ivory Coast at striker? We are already losing Daka and Bilal if they stay but thankfully Ghana didn't qualify so will have Ayew and Fatawu.

Yeah. This should be a slam dunk but I can see Rudkin waiting until later in the window to try and get Wycombe to accept less, we don't get him and then don't have any time to sort anyone else. How many times have we seen that before!

And Wilf to AFCON, if he stays.

They have quite a few high profile forwards don't they I think

Wonder if our good mate Odsonne is available

I guess it might be a stale mate that goes until the end of the window, can a league one club afford to lose millions and let him go for free next summer?

He isn't because Palace somehow managed to get actual real money for him this transfer window.

Haller is the one that comes to mind.

They have Zaha, Haller, Datro Fofana and a few others like Latte Lath and that guy at Salzburg  to choose from. He will probably not be selected unless there are injuries.

He's not high profile enough. And they won't be scouting other players at Leicester and spot him at the same time, as I don't think we have any Ivorians.

Don't think he's "uncut" as such, just on a very steep and encouraging development curve. I've seen him dominate some very strong defenders in League One. Clearly he can finish, but for me his key attributes are power, hold up play and the intelligence to use his strength to good effect. IMO a perfect focal point for Mav and Fats to play off; Bilal also if still around. *Definitely* worth a punt... and it's not even a particularly big punt at that.

Big YES from me haha

I say just pay the 5m. That sell on clause could end up costing us millions more…

Agreed - we need a striker like him. Also a no brainer if its under £5m. Unfortunately we aren't in the position to spend £10-15m on a striker more developed, and I think he will improve playing in our system

Main thing about us in the article says..

”Leicester City have similarly held talks, having tracked Kone for the best part of a year.

It's not clear yet if the Foxes will firm up their interest with a bid, although they had previously looked to be Swansea's main competitors in the race for last season's League One Player of the Year.

Whether Leicester's interest has had any bearing on City's efforts isn't clear, but their presence in negotiations has clearly made things more difficult.”

We do it every season!!!! It’s called a ‘Rudkin’ as opposed to a ‘Bosman’ move.

I doubt we've currently tabled an offer, feel like we're obviously waiting to sell someone first.

But lets be clear, WalesOnline are ****ing hilarious. They just openly make shit up. So who knows.

Reads a bit like cat and mouse between Wycombe and Swansea.

Our name being thrown in to help push things along. I could be wrong of course!

yes and no, Swansea dont have loads of cash to throw around, and even swansea insiders are saying they are looking at different options now

also given they said we've been tracking him for over a year too, makes you think we have held talks etc

We rely on significant sales before willing to purchase which given our track record means we'll be left in limbo and Cifuentes will get his first taste of being pissed off here.

Seems the way, but at £5m, that’s £1m a year on PSR, surely it’s a no brainer if we are seriously wanting him.
