It's looking at his goals and making my own opinion on whether he would translate well to championship level. Seeing how he scores, where he scores, should the defender have done better and would they do better at Championship level. A lot of his goals are the result of sloppy defending from the opposition which should raise questions about how he would perform against better defenders. His touch is also loose, there are a few goals from last season where if the defender was a bit faster they would have made the tackle before he was able to get the shot off. His shooting also seems a bit sloppy, often times just hitting it at the goalkeeper and getting fortunate with a rebound. He is also slow which doesnt help with making the step up. Maybe im completely wrong and he's sharp enough to catch Championship defenders off guard, it is clearly a strength of his. I do think you always have to worry with a striker who relies on defenders making mistakes making the step up. In comparison I think Jake Evans has a very strong set off foundational skills which with experience will allow him to trouble defenders at any level. He is comfortable with the ball at his feet, fast, strong, can finish with both feet, can take players on, has good power on his shots, is intelligent with linking up with the players around him and making the right runs. Again I could very well be wrong but this is just my opinion so feel free to take it with a grain of salt. If 5m is the fee what you expecting prime Vardy. I'm sure you could put up a prime Vardy video that would make him look no better than that. Also only just 22 so room for improvement with better management and players around him. 2

Vardy and Drinky getting hammered as soon as the team was released. NP getting slagged off for picking them. Who scored our two? Two years later would have been a different story without them both. 2

This squad walks back into the PL if managed correctly and then we have an entire season with no transfer fees being paid. That could set us up to spend a bit more when back in the PL. I'd much rather buy players while in the Championship than in the Premier League. There is definitely a Championship 'discount' vs a PL 'premium' added to prices. E.g Winks and Skipp, similar quality players bought from the same club - £10m vs £25m. Even disregarding the cheaper prices, we still made better signings overall in our last Championship season than in our last PL one. From the point of view of a potential signing, I don't think there's much difference in attractiveness between a PL team likely to get relegated, and a Championship team likely to get promoted. 2

We just got Vardy off the books.. 100k a week is 5.2m a year saved… I’d be surprised if he was after £40k. Could easily see it around the 20-25 mark.

If we increase his wages by more than ten fold we are beyond daft. 6

You’d demand double that. and this is where the problems could start because a kid of his age suddenly getting that much dosh - you’ve no idea where that goes mentally. 1

Pay rise on promotion or after a year etc. If he bombs then we don't get stuffed too much, Give him a goal, an incentive to "pull's up tree's" if he performs then he earns his extra dosh. We can't get stuff on the wages front anymore 2

You can also on play the market you’re being offered. It seems to be ourselves and Swansea and I can’t see Swansea offering anything over £20k max.

That’s why he’d want to come here we’re a better bet than Swansea if he’s ambitious and wants to earn more money. If we start paying low wages then we won’t be as attractive a destination. whilst we can’t be chucking around 40k+ in the championship, we can’t be trying to get players here below 25k. It’s not going to work in the dressing room to have such massive wage divergence. hopefully within a couple years the big earners will have gone and we can settle around 25/30k average in the champ and 40/50k in the prem. 1

Both Mads and Mavididi were supposedly on £15k a week when we first signed them. Don’t know how true that was or if they got a wage increase when we won promotion. 1

Indeed, but the people above him shouldn't have signed off on them. For too long our transfers have been too heavily dictated by the manager's choices rather than having an approach driven by data/the style of play the club wants to achieve.

ozvaldo Posted 6 August 2025 Posted 6 August 2025 This is where we need some shrewd negotiation. Targets and bonuses have to come into play. We can’t do another long term contract on mad money.
VLC86 Posted 6 August 2025 Posted 6 August 2025 The average championship salary is around £20k a week. This guy has never played at this level and would probably be lucky to get that. We need to be smart with incentives. If he plays x amount of games or scores x amount of goals he gets a significant rise. 1

When was this rule set? You can offer them whatever you want, if it’s more then he’s getting offered elsewhere then he’s likely to sign.
