An in-form striker and a reliable centre-back (anyone is literally an improvement over Wout Faes). In terms of a striker I'd like to see us bring in someone in form. I don't care if they are from a lower league or a smaller european league, I just think we need someone with confidence in front of goal and not someone who is looking to improve their profile by coming here or winding down their career by coming here.

We have both funding signings and getting costs down further and a bloated squad to consider, so outgoings are as important.

Our weak areas are LB, CB and strikers.

Some players we will not shift like Thomas and Skipp. Ayew has a good reputation on the international stage so maybe he might get interest?

CB - try and sell Faes and Nelson. Hopefully to fund a new starter.

LB - try and sell VK to directly fund and open a squad space for a new starting LB and Thomas becomes back up.

CM - Winks and James look a good partnership but a real issue with contracts running out. Try and sell Soumare to at least get something.

St - Carranza is here for the season. We won’t have more than 3 strikers in the squad. Getting rid of Ayew or Daka (I wouldn’t say no to both) and bringing a competent starter in is a must.

This gives a sell list of;

Faes

Nelson

VK

Soumare

Daka/Ayew

Bring in;

CB

LB

St

Hopefully a not unrealistic list….

If we could get those 3 key positions in, I’d look at the longer term such as centre midfield.

Why would you sell Nelson? He's not a chance to play yet and is potentially worth more if Marti starts to play him.

No one is buying Faes on his current contract imo.

Ayew is going nowhere either.

We should've sold Daka in the sunmer and maybe Betis will come back in for him and we take a nominal fee and get his wages off the books.

A new striker is a must and we need a better MC off the bench than Soumare/Skipp.

Faes only has 18 months left come January so it’s more likely someone can come in and meet a valuation that covers PSR. He will likely still have admirers in Europe.

Ayew I don’t know. As I say, my justification for thinking with 6 months left, he might get an offer is that his international standing and reputation is good. Again, minimal fee. Will he be on massive wages? Probably more than we would like but he has come in since we started to be more mindful let’s say.

Nelson my reason is covered on other threads. He needs to play and isn’t getting near our side. Contract running out and I don’t think we could afford to let him go for free. To clarify, I can’t stand Vestergaard and Faes and building the defence around Nelson was what I was looking reallt

forward to, but it just hasn’t happened that way.

I still don’t get the sell Nelson part, if your reason on other threads is you don’t rate him then ok but if you do why put him up for sale?

He has to play, is that your reason? Well wouldn’t you do all you can to get rid of any of the other three to enable that with us?

Let’s say you sell both Nelson and Faes, at most you get £5m for Nelson & I’m being generous due to lack of experience, age & length of contract left, you still need to replace both as you need a minimum of 4 CBs, are you then getting new CBs in to start or cover, if start they will cost more than £5m but you mention us not being able to afford him to go for free but having to buy for more or to cover then what’s the point of selling Nelson?

I do still live in the hope Nelson & Wilson-Brown are a future Leicester City CB pairing along with a established older CB, someone around the 28/29/30 age who can support them, remember in the main CB mature with age, then have 4th happy to play that 4th role.

The priority has to be a 6ft+ striker with pace and a solid 1st touch.

We hoping to bin one of our strikers off in Jan then, basically has to be Daka? Either that or we're resigned to the fact Evans won't get another chance because we can't have 5 strikers knocking about the squad, we only play one :D

With Daka and Ayew's contracts up in the summer and Carranza on a loan with no option and jury very much out, I think all 3 will be considered not part of the future of this club and at least one will be off.

How many kaons can we have domestically and from abroad?

Need to max out the quota to freshen up the squad more. Ramsey and James already look like two of our better players

You can only have five loan players in the match day squad. Other than that the EFL don't really give a ****.

There's caps on too many coming from the same club but they could all be domestic or international and you can have like 50 of them if you want. You just can't register beyond the maximum squad size, obviously, and can't have more than the match day quota.

Nice. Carranza you have two months to not be shit otherwise you're gonna be stuck in a Schiphol queue for hours.

A left back that doesn't play with polio would be great

Hahaha bold of you to assume we learned anything from French Eddie and have a break clause in Carranza's loan.

There’s probably about a 50/50 chance he doesn’t which is absurd

Certain things have come back into fashion this season, the Premier League and Championship is full of big physical strikers, quite a few of which offer an aerial presence.

Unfortunately Ayew is about the closest we have in terms of ticking those boxes, but of course we need better.

Maybe we should’ve signed Oli McBurnie after all :whistle:lol

There’d have been absolute uproar had we been linked with McBurnie but there he is, 3rd highest scorer…

With 5 more goals than our 3 strikers combined

Looks like his return at Las Palmas was poor to be fair. Hindsight I guess. But yeah, signing him for free rather than Carranza would have been better as Daka and Ayew would leave, new signings and McBurnie becomes a squad player. But I guess not on the radar at the time.

Do we still have a bloated squad? I mean, I know we did.. but do we still?

I'd say yes, based on the fact we have 3 strikers, 2 CMs, and 1-2 CBs we genuinely don't want in the squad, let alone starting 11.
